Remove Windows Components Option Like In XP
Apr 16, 2008
Would like the option to remove Windows Components like WMP or whatever. Mostly to get them off the shell/interface, but also to clear space and to organize the program files directory a bit better. I have bought the upgrade and the anytime upgrade disc. I am having problems with the upgrade. I have tried twice to do it, the second time was after speaking to microsoft direct services helpdesk. I was walked through the first part of the installation, inserting the disc and to the gathering information stage. I told support I would contact them if it failed again The installation seemed to go ok right through to the last stage where I got a message - "could not configure one or more windows components" My computer then rolled back to vista premium.

For a friend i orderd and assembled a PC, i've done this before for myself and 2 other friends so i'd like to consider myself "not a complete idiot (some parts are missing)" Computer components came in and i assembled as it sould, turned the computer on and i had a blank screen telling me he had no input. All the divices looked like they were working but none were. Sent the Motherboard back and had it replaced with the same motherboard i have, after assembly it turned out the motherboard was not the problem but the processor. So had that one replaced assembled it AGAIN and the computer finally ( after 3 weeks ) booted...........

I found that there were programs that you could use with your tablet. (Ex: Windows Journal, and that program that recognizes your Handwriting) I don't have these (or possibly, any) tablet components. Yes, I searched for it in the Start menu, but nothing came up. I even went to Control Panel>Programs> Turn Windows Features On or Off, and the Tablet PC folder didn't even show up. I also saw that there is a tablet feature on Microsoft Word, and I don't see that, either. Why? How do I get these components?

I am just about to purchase a 9800 gtx+ (alt. gts 250). I opened up my case and just noticed this. The sata cables would block the card (10.5 inches long)
If I used 90 degree ones would that clear it all up? Also There is a heatsink right there the gray one. I believe that is the integrated graphics one, I don't use those I am using a video card. So can that heatsink be removed so problems? The circles are representing the heatsink and sata cables. The two lines are how long the gtx+ is. It takes up two pci slots.

I purchased the Windows Anytime Upgrade to go from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows Vista Ultimate. The upgrade fails stating it cannot upgrade some system components and that I should check the web to see if my machine is compatible. Restart the pc and re-run setup. I ran the compatibility before I bought the upgrade, but I did it again and all of the indicators show the pc is compatible. I am logged in with Administrator rights. I had disabled Aero, so I tried re-enabling before one install attempt - same result. I disabled all Symantec services and rebooted and retried the installation.

In details view of files, you can drag a file up or down the list, and explorer deselects sorts and you get an unsorted list. This feature is very annoying, as right button dragging to a folder and selecting move will also deselect sorts as well. This is something I do all day long, and I have to click the name header to re-activate sorts after every file I move or copy. Why does explorer have this unsorted ability? Can it be disabled and act like XP? This one bug is making the use of Vista a pain in the butt, and the only reason I'm using Vista is the Dell machine I have can't get Gigabit speed any network addapter when this machine runs XP. We tried 3 different brands of Gigabit networks cards, and they only get 100Mb speed on a Gigabit network,

I have Vista Home Premium, I have read other posts and follwed advise to see if SP1 is installed. The Start - Computer - properties - option does not show it under Windows Edition as described in one post. I go to Windows Update and cant find it listed there as installed updates. Pretty sure now that its not installed. go to the download page and it directs me to Windows update for single PC downloads, WU takes over and says I am fully up to date! Advice in other posts says to let WU take care of it and it will download and install SP1.

This could start at any time apparently but once it does my whole computer freezes up for 9 seconds exactly, then it's fine for about 50 seconds or so, then frozen for 9 seconds, etc. This will repeat until I reboot the computer. I somehow manged to fix the problem and had completely forgotten about it until the other day.
I wanted to hibernate my computer but the options weren't there so I found this page and entered the commands into the Command Prompt: How to Re-enable Missing Hibernate Option in Windows Vista? - Tweaking with Vishal
It sort of fixed my hibernation, now the Start Menu power button would hibernate, but more importantly the 9 second freezes started up again. I quickly ran the Hibernation File Cleaner in Disk Cleanup which is apparently what removed the hibernation option in the first place, but no luck, hibernation was now gone and the freezes still continued....................

running Vista Home Premium (32-bit). When you log into Windows, you immediately get the error "Windows Explorer has stopped working". Then it says explorer is restarting, restarts your desktop, then is ok for about 3 seconds. The error then pops back up and it is stuck in that loop.
It started when he clicked on some popup he shouldn't have. I removed a trojan identified by Mcafee as exploit-byte verify. I have also disabled all startup programs and services (except windows services) through msconfig. However, I am still getting this error popup. Unfortunately, he had previously turned off the system restore option and got rid of the recovery partition.

I have sent some e-mails using Craiglist. I probably have sent five or six by now. The address always starts out sale...etcetc. When I start to send an e-mail and the first letter of the name is s, all the addresses that I used in Craiglist show up. Since I wouldn't use these again, I want to delete them, but they don't show up in contacts. How can you delete these?

I haveWindows Home Premium 32bit and a serious problem with "Windows Defender"I once attempted to get rid of Windows Defender. The result is that my system starts with
a warning saying that some programs were blocked. If I try to see which programs I get the following error "Impossibile inizializzare l'applicazione: 0x800106ba...".
I could not find a way to fix it.I search the windows site but their solutionsare not applicable since "Windows Defender" does not appear in the list of installed programs.
Therefore I cannot uninstall it.
I also tried
"msiexec /uninstall
windowsdefender.msi /quiet /log uninstall.log"
which does nothing usefull
(empty log and no solution to the problem).
I have tried to reinstall but then it complains it is already installed. Is there a way to fix this problem without having to reinstall windows vista which in my case would mean
a full format (I have a restoration vista cd which came with my laptop).

I am in Windows Defender attempting to remove or disable Startup Programs. When I click some programs, even though they are listed as 'permitted' I am unable to remove or disable them. The reason is that the remove and diable buttons do not highlight and are unlcickable. This does not happen for all Startup Programs. The offenders are Adobe Acrobat, iTunes, and Lenovo Registration.
