Windows Not Shut Down Properly, Give Safe Mode Option
Mar 26, 2008i bought a 64 bit version of vista and i have built a new system with an asus p5e mobo 4gb of ram 8800 gt graphics and everything shows to install at the complete installation time it reboots and it then tells me windows did not shut down properly and and give me the safe mode option or boot windows normally when i hit safe mode it says it cannot boot into safe mode and when i hit boot normally it says the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected problem and cannot proceed. to install press ok to restart and start the whole installation process over again.

The Start - Computer - properties - option does not show it under Windows Edition as described in one post. I go to Windows Update and cant find it listed there as installed updates. Pretty sure now that its not installed. go to the download page and it directs me to Windows update for single PC downloads, WU takes over and says I am fully up to date! Advice in other posts says to let WU take care of it and it will download and install SP1.

Mar 24, 2009I seem to have lost some programs. It's all rather baffling as this has never happened to me before. I installed all the software that came with my shiny new (well it was when I bought it!) JVC Everio hard drive camcorder.No problems there as it all worked fine. The only thing was that I didn't really like using it. I found d/l'ing my recordings through windows and using windows Movie Maker to be a lot less bothersome and easier than the JVC stuff. I've been doing that for a while now so I thought I'd uninstall all the JVC stuff.Went to do this and I just can't uninstall it.
There's two ways to do this.The first way I tried was to go into my start menu, where you can hover over the program which brings up a box with different options to do with the program, like run it, read the help stuff and all the other things you can do. At the bottom of this is the 'uninstall this program option. (I've used this method to uninstall lots of other programs in the past with no bother at all)....................

When I run the wizard to connect to a network, it does not show the add ad-hoc network option, only four others for wireles, internet and vpn connection. Also, although I have networked two PC's both running Vista, I cannot ping the second machine from the first and vice versa despite having added routes to both machines. nslookup recognises the ip address of each machine, as does tracert(I should point out that both machines obtain their iP addresses from a router which also allows access to the internet. Both machines can see the internet).

To be frank, I haven't a clue what most of these features mean or do, and Help and Support has nothing to explain the function of the majority of them.
For example, if I rest my cursor over Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) Server, it tells me that it 'Manages and Catalogues removable media and operates automated media devices'.
Because I do use SDHC Memory Cards, USB Memory Sticks, Cameras, Card Readers and other sundry media hardware, should I then have this box ticked? If not, then just what does this feature relate to, or do?
Similarly, what the heck is the TFTP Client, and what does that do?
Advice about the other open boxes and their functions, would be appreciated, with the exception of Games, which is self-explanatory, and something I have no interest in anyway. Recommended settings with reasons for activation, will help me understand these features.
Turn Windows Features On Or Off - Blank List
Nov 12, 2009I have Vista Home Premium SP2 on a desktop, fully updated. When I open "Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off" the list is empty. It momentarily says "Please Wait...", then never populates the list.
I read that it may have something to do with Windows Updates errors, so I checked my history. I found 9 failed ones from 10-15 and 10-14. I went to the windows download site and tried to manually install them. Every one I tried ended with a message: "This update does not apply to your machine." I didn't bother to try a couple of them since I do not use Windows mail. Maybe updates had nothing to do with it. The problem persists.
I ran sfc /scannow and after completion it said corrupt files were found but was unable to fix some of them. I don't have a Vista CD but I do have all of the recovery disks I made when it was new, however I'm not sure how to proceed.

I have also gone to a video file, right clicked, went to properties and "open with". I clicked "browse" to find media player. When i find it, and double click it, it returns to the screen, but does not show Media Player listed. I know for a fact that Media Player is installed, i can open it. Another thing i have noticed that "Windows Media Player" is not listed in "Programs and Features" in Control Panel.

this is what I get every time I try to play the game and a spinning disc replaces the curser and I am unable to eject the play disc unless I reboot my machine. I know this game is compatable with Vista home premium as my previous HP computer ran it no problem, the only thing I can think of which is obvious is that the game needs Active X 9 to run the programme and my replacement machine (the previous one died) had Active X 10 pre-installed and I am not sure if this could create a problem I have tried unstalling the game 3 or 4 times and re-installing it to no effect?
Remove Programme Failed
May 22, 2008I see that I am not alone in experiencing this problem. Attempts to remove the programme have failed - because I cannot find it. Attempts to access the "SpiralOrbit" website recommended by the problem support message fail, because the website does not exist: according to Windows own help window. Does anyone have any knowledge of what exactly is this programme and how one might remove it?

Program Wont Uninstall It With Uninstall Or Install Cleanup Utility
Nov 20, 2008I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
