Option Not Show Under Windows Edition
May 13, 2008I have Vista Home Premium, I have read other posts and follwed advise to see if SP1 is installed. The Start - Computer - properties - option does not show it under Windows Edition as described in one post. I go to Windows Update and cant find it listed there as installed updates. Pretty sure now that its not installed. go to the download page and it directs me to Windows update for single PC downloads, WU takes over and says I am fully up to date! Advice in other posts says to let WU take care of it and it will download and install SP1.

Oct 7, 2008I have with Vista and an ad-hoc peer-to-peer wired network. When I run the wizard to connect to a network, it does not show the add ad-hoc network option, only four others for wireles, internet and vpn connection. Also, although I have networked two PC's both running Vista, I cannot ping the second machine from the first and vice versa despite having added routes to both machines. nslookup recognises the ip address of each machine, as does tracert(I should point out that both machines obtain their iP addresses from a router which also allows access to the internet. Both machines can see the internet).

I added the custom paper size in the print server and it is saved correctly, however, when I try to print, the print properties dialog does not show the paper size. In fact, there are many paper sizes in the print manager that do not show up in the list of available paper sizes.

Mar 11, 2008I have a 120 GB Western Digital Passport and it's no longer working with Vista Ultimate (if I plug it into a XP machine or Mac OS X it works perfectly). The drive used to work with my Vista Ultimate install, but not anymore. Facts:-The drive shows up in the Device Manager- The drive shows up within Computer Management under Storage-->Disk Management, but it is listed as not available-The drive does NOT show up in Windows Explorer, in fact when I have it connected and I open up Windows Exlporer, my machine hangs until I remove the drive-I have removed and recreated the INFCACHE.1 file-I am using the supplied cable from WD-Other hardware (digital camera, USB wireless adapter, etc..) work from the port that I am plugging the Passport into-WD claims that it's a Vista issue

Mar 23, 2008While browsing files and folders I've noticed something extreemly annoying. You can see the size of individual files in the Size column but you cant see the folder's contents size. This extreemly frustrating and I cant seem to find where I can enable that function. I know you can scroll your mouse over folders one at a time and a window will apear and you can see the size then, but thats just inconveniant for what Im doing. I need to be able to glance at multiple folder sizes constantly.

2 - Crap starts happening right after. what crap? Some programs such as tuneup utillites,psp video converter cannot work. Programs that can speed up the system such as programs (that disable some programs to start during pc startup) CRASH now.

I am running Vista, but a friend is running XP. She used to have listed in that box the option to scan with her anti virus program, but she no longer does. May 20, 2009Suddenly, my computer freezed (just like it has been doing for some time now). When I restarted it, the computer asked for the Vista DVD, so that it could repair some files (I couldn't even boot into Safe Mode). I put the DVD inside the drive, and choose the "Repair your computer" option, but it reports that no Vista installation is found...
I then boot into the Rescue and Recovery environment (that is a Thinkpad suite, located in another partition of the disk) to see what's going on. The System Information detects everything except the Hard Drive (it reports "Not Available" for the fields "Hard disk free space" and "Hard disk capacity"). I also can't see the harddisk in the option to backup the files to a pen (the pen is recognized, though). Just to be sure, I run PC Doctor and my hard disk passes all tests.
Option In Contacts Folder NOT SEEN
Feb 7, 2009I'm new to the Forum so I hope I'm doing this correctly. Anyway, initially I was trying to create a mailing group, but could not see a choice for that option in my Contacts folder. Turns out it was set on "Pictures and Videos" and I read, in this Forum, how to fix that so it would show my list of contacts, and would therefore show the choice for setting up a group. That worked fine. My problem is - my changes don't seem to want to stay! For instance, today I was working in my picture folders, and then when I went back into Windows Mail and clicked on Contacts, it was back to showing "Pictures and Videos!" Why won't it stay on Contacts after I configure the folder? I do click "Apply" and then "OK," but that doesn't seem to make a difference. It keeps changing back.

Sep 6, 2009In an effort to speed up my start up time I downloaded instructions from Microsoft's download site. One option used Windows Defender. I tried that. It changed nothing. I then tried an option using msconfig. I unchecked certain programs leaving my Anti Virus and Microsoft Operating programs. After a restart nothing had changed. The desktop still had the same icons.
