I have a 120 GB Western Digital Passport and it's no longer working with Vista Ultimate (if I plug it into a XP machine or Mac OS X it works perfectly). The drive used to work with my Vista Ultimate install, but not anymore. Facts:-The drive shows up in the Device Manager- The drive shows up within Computer Management under Storage-->Disk Management, but it is listed as not available-The drive does NOT show up in Windows Explorer, in fact when I have it connected and I open up Windows Exlporer, my machine hangs until I remove the drive-I have removed and recreated the INFCACHE.1 file-I am using the supplied cable from WD-Other hardware (digital camera, USB wireless adapter, etc..) work from the port that I am plugging the Passport into-WD claims that it's a Vista issue
I have been trying for 2 weeks now to install Vista on my new build. My BIOS finds the HD fine. XP will find the HD fine in my build VISTA continues to not find it so I can do a clean install. I have tried every suggestion I have seen or have been given in forums and with contact from my MB company. Here are the things I have tried:...........
Right where to start, i bought a 5.1 home cinema system for the pure fact i wanted to playe the audio from my Acer 8920G through it. I have been using the normal head phone jack that is playing in stereo but i want to take advantage of Dolby Digital Live and listen to my music in surround sound. So i disabled the "speakers" through control panel in sounds and made the digital output the default but now there is no sound at all although vista says there is a signal when looking at the volume. If i have not been specific enough then please feel free to aks questions, i feel like i am going mad, i can't be unique in ths situation.
I have a HP pc with onboard sound - analog and coax digital out. I'm using neither, I have a USB DAC connected which is working just fine. However, on a lark the other day, I went into the audio manager and "disabled" the Realtek digital sound option (which I wasn't using anyway at this point, but it was fully available to be configured and I had experimented with it before - it worked fine!). I fully expected the choice to just "grey out" when I selected disable. In fact, it totally vanished from the panel. Never to return. I tried a system restore but that didn't bring it back. I reinstalled the driver, no luck. This isn't affecting my use of the system (it's a music server - iTunes serving my music to the DAC and out to my audio system), but it's very annoying to have something "disappear" and not easily undone. And if I swap the system for some other household use, I'll want the digital sound back. The analog sound output option was not affected by any of this.
I have a Gateway m 6309 laptop with a SD/MMC/MS/xD slot. I try to insert my SD card from my digital camera, but it won't go in. At all. It also looks as if there is something inside the slot, blocking it. It's been that way ever since I got the computer, but I've never really found anywhere to ask this question before.
I have my auto updates switched on yet since a download of definition files for windows defender on the 3/3/2009, all updates have failed, now in these updates is the 3.5 sp passport, which i need desparatly, now also to this i use firefox as a web browser, now when trying to download manually from microsoft themselves, its always says i cannot connect to microsoft downloads, no matter what download i try : yes i am using a proper copy of vista, not pirate! Im using vista 32-bit home. When i try doing the updates i get the following error code:- Code 80244019
Sound functions but reciever is only detecting 2 channel output. Apon browsing RealTekHD audio properites I discovered that the only options for Digital Output(RCA) were all 2-Channel under "Default Format" tab. However my front pannel Audio Output Jack(HD Audio 2nd Output) has an extra third tab labeled "Speaker Configuration" and has options for up to 7.1 surround but these settings do not impact my Digital Output(RCA) channel. Now my reciever does have a multi-channel input that could take advantage of the Analog Outputs in the rear but the distance is to great and multiple wires are expensive.
Are there any differences between...Western Digital VelociRaptor 150GB SATA 16MB and the Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB SATA 16MB (except the size)
I had this problem just over a year ago, and I took my laptop back to the shop -- they told me to take Vista back to the factory defaults. But when I did, there was a failure in the installation process and they told me that they would have to replace the computer -- apparently it was the motherboard -- on warranty. I hope it is not so major this time. Here goes. The USB ports have become very intermittent, spontaneously reading the plugged in storage device as having been unplugged, then spontaneously reading it as having been plugged in, with the sound that alerts you to that operation (this is exactly what happened last time, except over a prolonged period). Now my USB external hard drive isn't being read. It shows in the device manager, and the sound that alerts to when it is being plugged in or disconnected pings as it should, but in computer > manage > storage it is 'unknown' and 'unreadable'. My memory sticks can be read, though. And the USB mouse works in all the ports.
I am running Vista x64, installed maybe 2 years ago.It seems to be running fine except I can no longer use the cut/copy/paste functionality.I ran sfc /verifyonly and Vista says nothing is wrong. To test,I open Notepad and type in a word.I highlight and right-click on the word and select "cut" but nothing happens (no errors, either).CTRL-X also does nothing.I can select "copy" but it's hard to say if that's working or not (probably not, if "cut" isn't working). With nothing in the clipboard, "paste" is grayed out and is not selectable. In Excel,I get the "cannot empty the clipboard" error, but forum posts seem to indicate that is an Excel weirdness and not particularly Windows-related.Here's a really weird thing:I can still use cut/copy/paste without issues in a MS Virtual PC instance. No problems there. It's running on the same machine.I rebooted and it worked again for a bit.Now it's not working again.
i have Vista64 and Windows Mail. Yesterday i installed IE8 and all the office 2007 patches (don't know if relevant). Now i am having problems printing emails. I get a windows with a script error (i have a German windows, so i try to translate the error to english):
Title: Internet Explorer Scripterror
Line 291 Character ( Column ?) 1 Error: Interface not registered Code 0
No i can stop the script or continue, but nothing happens. I don't get a print dialog nor a print out.
I had a copy of Ultimate laying around the house and decided for some stupid reason to upgrade the OS yesterday. It's been a nightmare. After 10 hours I've reinstalled many, many programs and have been able to get the to launch all of them with the exception of Outlook. I've searched for a solution and have had no luck following a solution to the problem I'm encountering.
I'm getting the following error message:
>>> Cannot open your default e-mail folders. An unexpected error has occured. MAPI was unable to load the information service mspst.dll. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured.<<<
I have successfully used Outlook 2007 for the past 6 months on my home PC. The problems I am encountering began immediately following the upgrade to Ultimate (32 bit--I thought I'd have less problems with drivers going 32 bit route than trying 64). I am hoping to salvage my contacts and calendar if at all possible (I have them backed up on an external drive but it's not current about 6 weeks old...I see an Outlook.pst in Windows.old but I cannot open it). I've had to reinstall Office Ultimate 2007 and I have run repair three times. All the Microsoft Windows Ultimate updates are installed. Not sure if this is related but the Office Ultimate Disc 2 will not install properly.
Everytime I try to add a digital copy of a dvd or blu ray into my iTunes it says I do not have the access privilages. I am the administrator and my computer is definately authorized with my iTunes. I emailed Apple, and the guy said it was probably a Vista issue, and was unable to help me. Is there anyone out there with similar problems and a way to fix it? It is rather frustrating.
I m using, Vista Home Premium 64bit with sp1 Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard which has a realtek ALC883 sound chip (a 7.1 chip but its limited to 5.1 on this board as standard) im using the Coax output on the back which is contected to my 5.1 sound system. and im using the R1.89 realtek HD audio driver codec (have tryed R1.88,R1.87a,R1.87, and the ones that came with the motherboard R1.57). i can only get 5.1 sound when i play a DVD in WMP, Media center and the realtek digital out put test works too. But when i try playing games (crysis, call of duty 4 and so on) im stuck with dolby pro logic 2.1 and i also can't seem to see the digital output on the realtek manager either no matter what version i use. also the jack info seems a little odd to me.
I can't get analog or digital to werk properly at all... I get no picture or sound at all on Analog, but all the channels show up after scanning .. I get choppy video and sound on digital and all channels show up after scanning.. I have all the latest drivers and software, done uninstalls, reboots, and reinstalls ... nothing.
i want to output sound through my digital output and through my front jacks at the same time, i.e while watching a movie through my digital output (monitor i.e video extended to my tv) and playing a game at the same time (game on my LCD), with sound coming out my front sound jack for the game. so basically in a nut shell, i want to watch movies and play games at the same time, while the respective sound comes through different outputs.
I just uploaded pictures from my digital camera to the computer and now it wont let me modify them. I am panicing! It deleted them off my camera and now I can't upload them anywhere or even modify them. I'm losing my son's memories. This is the only time I didn't "Name" them when uploading because it said it was optional. Any other Windows I have had would just automaticly name them for me and no problem. Now I can't modify and save. It tells me: Changes to this picture have not been saved. The file may be read-only or you might not have permission to save to the pictures location. They are not read only. I went into the properties and checked. This is so horrible. I have never had to deal with this. I even took a mock picture and named it when I imported it and I can do what ever I want to that picture including save modifications.
I was used to be able to use the digital as well as the analog output of my soundcard at the same time. (Soundcard is an onboard one with the ACī97 sound chip). But now running vista I can only use one. Either I choose the analog output to be "standard" (then it has the green tick) or the digital output.. Only the one chosen works then. Is there any way to get both working simultainiously?
Does anyone know if there is a way to convert pixels to inches using a digital camera? What I am trying to say is, i have as an example a photo that is 286 KB with a 300 dpi resolution and 2921x2100 pixels. Some one E-maild a picture as an attachment that was 2.01mb, 180 dpi resolution and 3264x2448 pixels. I am trying to understand why their picture 2.01 mb and when I take pictures I never get over 600kb.
So yea, a friend of mine got me an Xbox 360 for my birthday, however I have no speakers and my monitor does not play audio (so any audio through HDMI is not an option). So, as a result, I bought a optical audio cable for the Digital Input (S/PDIF input), and then played it back through the speakers... however this was on Windows 7 RC1, since formatting back to Vista Ultimate 64bit (Was testing it to see if it fixed some problems), I do not have an option to play the Digital Input through the Speakers anymore (There used to be a volume control for it on the Speakers properties inside of the Vista sound settings, but it's gone now).
I am using this motherboard: ( Universal abit > Motherboard, Digital Speakers, iDome, AirPace, Multimedia ) with the drivers provided by them (It's onboard and uses the Realtek HD audio drivers, thats all I remember since I built it). Anyway, so far the only way I have been able to hear the Digital Input is to play the device through VLC using "Open Capture Device", which has a lag delay (Which is enough to throw sounds off by almost a second or so, which is fairly annoying in a multiplayer game).............
I am having trouble getting clips to play using Windows Vista with Windows Media Player 11 via the UEFA.com site. I have tried following the FAQ on http://support.uefa.com and also contacted support to no avail. They mention reinstalling Windows Media Player 11, however, this is not possible in Vista as far as I know. I have also tried deleting the DRM folder. Unfortunately, this has not fixed the issue. Finally, the same clips play on my Windows XP Pro machine without any problems. What else could be wrong?
I recently updated my drivers for my video card (an integrated Ati Radeon Hd3200)off of Ati/Amd's website. After instalation windows told me it did not have a digital signature so it would not be allowed to run. I tried to reinstall multiple times to no effect. The main thing is that I can not access my CCC ( Catalyst Control Center). Im running a out of the box Hp pavilion dv4 - 1222nr entertainment notebook pc. I have specs upon request. Sorry im not a verygood speller.
I am unable to get the program to install correctly in Vista 32. Have tried both version 2.0 and 2.01. Keep getting the error message "User Properties Error Invalid String Class. Suspect Installation Issue". Anyone know how to fix this issue?
"The problem was caused by a compatibility issue between Window Vista an EOS 400D". I have a Gateway GT5464 Desktop Computer with Window Vista (32bit) which Canon Inc. tells me should have PTP Picture Transfer Protocol installed.I have downloaded the latest and recommended software from Canon and still the computer ignores the camera.-----Is there something else that I am missing and where do I find the PTP Picture Transfer Protocol for Window Vista?
I have a Cannon Powershot A40 camera. UJust used the basic driver in Vista 64 bit to upload the pictures. I use Paint Shop Pro to work on them. Last night I installed SP1 and guess what/ Yup, can't use camera, Windows search for driver failed and Cannon website has no support for this camera for Vista says it's too old. What!!! nor would the driver from the original disk work. I've got a Epson Colour printer that's older than the camera. Epson can manage it, why not Cannon? However this is strange considering that Vista 64 bit had a driver before I installed SP1 Now I've got to fork out for a card reader.
how to add a program such as Microsoft's Digital Image Suite Import Wizard to the Vista Autorun options for a digital camera? I have found registry entries that will add it to the Pictures section of the Autorun Control Panel but it does not appear for my digital camera (Canon SD950IS).
I have two HD tv tuners in my machine, which I ordered when purchased the machine, so the cable guy came to my house to put a card they have to put in the back of this tuner (equiv. of digital cable box, I'm paying $10/mo. for it..) but now I can't activate the digital cable-tv feature in Windows Media Center b/c Vista is not accepting the product key supplied (it's in a sticker on the machine..) folks where I bought my machine said it's b/c Vista has gotten corrupted and I need to re-install it.. (this is based on their experience with other users having reported this problem, it was solved by re-installing Vista..)
now pls note I'm NOT talking about the Windows activation prod key, but another one, a 2nd product key on sticker in my machine, specif. for digital cable TV.. Vista is not accepting this product key; I have to do a clean re-install, which means wiping out all my data and starting over.. this is a HUGE pain..pls also note that the card the cable co. installed is correct one (WMC checks to see if you have correct hardware before it proceeds, I wouldn't get as far as where it asks for digital cable tv product key if I didn't have correct hardware in there..) before I embark on re-installing Vista I would like to know if there's another solution to this problem..
I have a Canon S3IS digital camera which can take movies. The movies show an .AVI extension and (I think) use an MJPEG codec. After transferring the movie files to my (Vista) hard drive, their behavior is erratic:
- The movie files *will not* play in Windows Media Player. The WMP error message is: "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file". Clicking on Web Help reveals: "You've encountered error message C00D11B1 while using Windows Media Player."
- The movie files *will not* play in Windows Media Center; WMC says "Cannot Play Video - Windows Media Center cannot open the file".
- If I import the files into Windows Movie Maker, WMM appears to play them, but the preview screen is black............
I have a Pavilion a6460a. It appears to have a Geforce 8500 GT 512mb Video card. There is no Analog connection. I need to run two monitors, 1 digital and 1 analog. Will the Dual Link DVI with some kind of an adaptor run these two monitors?
1 NO? 2 Inadvisable? (I don't know what "Dual Link means") 3 I need to change my video card
What is the purpose of the software that comes with the purchase of a digital camera? I purchased a SonyDSC-S650 and ran the disk that came with it. It appears to me that now I have photos in two places. Should I delete the Sony program or is it better to store my photos using their software.
