I have my auto updates switched on yet since a download of definition files for windows defender on the 3/3/2009, all updates have failed, now in these updates is the 3.5 sp passport, which i need desparatly, now also to this i use firefox as a web browser, now when trying to download manually from microsoft themselves, its always says i cannot connect to microsoft downloads, no matter what download i try : yes i am using a proper copy of vista, not pirate! Im using vista 32-bit home.
When i try doing the updates i get the following error code:- Code 80244019

I have a 120 GB Western Digital Passport and it's no longer working with Vista Ultimate (if I plug it into a XP machine or Mac OS X it works perfectly). The drive used to work with my Vista Ultimate install, but not anymore. Facts:-The drive shows up in the Device Manager- The drive shows up within Computer Management under Storage-->Disk Management, but it is listed as not available-The drive does NOT show up in Windows Explorer, in fact when I have it connected and I open up Windows Exlporer, my machine hangs until I remove the drive-I have removed and recreated the INFCACHE.1 file-I am using the supplied cable from WD-Other hardware (digital camera, USB wireless adapter, etc..) work from the port that I am plugging the Passport into-WD claims that it's a Vista issue

I an unable to have SP1 intall on my computer. When I run Windows Update, it begins the download, then fails after a few minutes, then
gives me the "click here for help" After clicking (obviously ) there are 5 things MS has you do. I tried all 5 and my computer passed,
but SP1 still will not install.
Thinking that maybe Updater was being mean, I dowloaded the stand alone update. When I run that it installs to 50%, then hangs and requires it to be manually cancelled.
The only error I get is "Code 800736B3" which seems to only refer to Dreamscene, and not SP1. That or my google-fu is weak.

I am wondering if there is any possible way of retrieving the activation code, currently in the process of creating a Vista Home Basic DVD with SP1 intergrated into it, currently have same activated and legit on system. I relise that you can call or even activate it over the internet, but this is anoying everytime I install a fresh copy of the OS. I am creating my own personal edition of vista that contains SP1 and Programs I enjoy using.

I want to re-install Vista x64 Home Premium but I can't find a code at home for installing, I'm not sure if I even had a code as the 64bit upgrade DVD looks to be a special offer (friends complain I got it very cheap, quick off the mark I tell them)
I purchased 32bit Vista early after its release and then sent off to Ireland for the Vista x64 DVD, cost around ?10, I saw the offer in the 32bit box. I'm having some problems so wanting to reinstall 64bit Vista but for the life of me I can't remember whether I need a code to re-install Vista x64 from just the 64bit DVD, or whether I need to install the 32bit version first and then the 64bit upgrade goes in without needing another install code

Bought and installed WEB EASY 7. Ran fine no problems. Shut down system and when I started up later and executed WEB Easy it said that it could not fine the serial code. Put the serial code in again and it ran fine, until the next shutdown and restart. Worked about 6 weeks with WEB EASY (Avanquest) to resolve and they could not. Their final fix was to format the disc and install a clean Vista with all updates.
I have not problem with any other software that I have purchased. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WEB EASY from my account with Admin Priv as well as Installed with the "Hidden Administrator" logon. Avanquest has of course said it is Microsofts problem and hung up. Apparently when I do an initial install and enter the serial code as requested it puts it in the worng place or somewhere that later users, including the Administrator, does not have access to; or the prgrram itself
is locked out of.

I had sp1 installed, installed a new video card(Gigabyte 8800GT nforce edition if that helps), had to reinstall the OS before the system would recognize the card. After reboot, I ran update and got a bunch of updates. A few days later, update listed sp1 under automatic updates. i ran the update and got this error:
Code 80070002
I've gotten this error before on another machine and it was pretty easily fixed by deleting a few folders(as per the instructions in the Help guide). This time, it isn't working. I've tried the steps listed at least a Dozen times, I've downloaded the stand-alone update, combined the error fix with a restart, and I always get the same error. Now, my computer is constantly telling me to install the update, but it won't let me. I really don't want to have to reinstall again.

The CD Rom drive passed out of existence from My Computer, with Vista Home Premium 32-Bit operating system installed in a emachines desktop PC. The error code is: This device cannot start. (Code 10). I've a problem with my on-board SoundMax 1988B (SupremeFxII) in bundle with MB Asus P5E. In Vista64 Ultimate all SoundMax's drivers found (also ASUS_BlackHawk_v30) don't working (error code 10) instead Microsoft's drivers WORKING BUT the microphone don't working. In XP-32bit microphone working ONLY the first time after a clean installation of drivers and software SoundMax, launch Skype and the MIC don't working definitively. Microphone is setting correctly like RECORDING DEVICES but it's "death".

I keep being told by Windows Vista 32bit Family edition that there isn't enough space to back up my data (I'm using the Vista standfard backup scheduler) error code 0x80070070. But I'm backing up C: to a 1.5tera external disk which is almost empty. Disk C is a 320gig disk with 23 gig still free. So what could be the problem? I am sure that the external disk has over 1 terabyte free.

Vista has been telling me to do an important update, and when I've tried to do it, it has given me nothing but error codes. The first error code was 80070246 and the update stopped at 13%. I tried again after a weeks time, and now the code i'm getting is error code 80071A30. I cant find this code explaination anywhere. Anyone have any idea what this code means....or how i can fix this POS operating system? Oh, and I've tried restoring back to previous updates, and now restore wont even work.

i recently installed Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium. I've had it for about two weeks now, And at least once a day I get a blue screen saying "A wait operation, attach process, or yield was attempted from a DPC routine." Blue screen code 0x000000B8. It seems to happen more often when installing something anywhere from a program, game, or even windows updates. I've updated all my drivers and still no luck. its downloaded and says its doing the usual install routine, then restarts and continues the install at the welcome screen. This gets to about 50% the says its reverting changes. the error code its giving is 80070059.

I like MS but hate it when they screw around with a good program. Sound Recorder in Pre-Vista Windows was a simple but useful program. Sound Recorder in Vista is a severly crippled version that only records in one format without being able to select other compression formats.
I copied Sound Recorder from XP (renamed it Sound Recorder XP) and copied it to my Vista machine. It works but only has the "stock" compression options. I installed l3codeca.acm (Mpeg Layer3) and placed it in my System32 folder but it still doesn't show up as an option in Sound Recorder XP.
How can I get the Mpeg Layer3 option to show up as an option in Sound Recorder XP on Vista? Can I even do this? I remeber seeing something about MS changing something in Vista so it won't recognize MP3 code programs.

I have been using my Windows Mail for a little while now and am pretty much there in terms of understanding it. However, at work I use Outlook Express and there are a few things that I like from it that I am unsure whether Windows Mail has or if I am just not finding them. The main thing is:
I colour code messages (categorise them) by descriptions I have altered them to, for example, if I select pink, this is known as 'awaiting others actions' and if I select blue this is 'Needs further attention by me' or purple meaning 'completed'. Does Windows Mail have this option anywhere at all so that I can colour my inbox messages until I have dealt with them all fully. I would be greatful for any advice about this.

My uncle bought a brand new computer in Nov 2008. He set it up with a log in name and password. He forgot his password and gave up trying to log in, put the laptop away in a box and ignored it til now as he wants to use it now.
He tried for hours to crack his password, trying everything that he thought it could be, but still no joy. He then went on my computer and downloaded something called "killdisk" ( then transferring to his comp via CD) believing that this would basically restore everything when booted up. However whenever he turns his comp on now, it says " insert a bootable disc...." and wont load anything up ie windows vista! He then downloaded a "windows vista recovery disc" from a website that now, when the comp is turned on takes him to " intall windows" He types in the 25 digit product key but is told "windows cannot open the required file D:/ sources/ install.wim. The file does not exist. Make sure all files for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070002"
So he then clicked " repair your computer" where he is asked to select an operating system to repair.... however there are no operating systems to select! Does this mean that he has unintentionally deleted or uninstalled windows vista? If so, is it possible to get it back? Can he download something, or transfer vista from my laptop or what? Sorry, I know this is a large post but I wanted to make sure all the info was in.

I have tried several things, followed advice from here and microsoft and still no joy... i have reregistered .dll files, recommended through microsoft website..i have deleted restore points...i have turned off windows defender..i have allowed windows/microsoft site in security tab in internetoptions. I also cannot update defender. My computer does check for updates, but extremely slow, then when it has found the ones needed, it downloads them, but when it comes too installing it says: The following 75 updates could not be installed, error code 0x80004002, im sure its just something simple..ty for your time..

I updated my graphics card acouple of months ago to a Geforce 9800GTx+ with a 550w psu. Since then Ive been getting critical error code 132 from WoW and alot of blue screens with about 5 or 6 different BCCodes. Im on the WoW tech support forums for the critical errors but the blue screens are more of a problem. Ive updated all the drivers..I think. Ran a memory diagnostics tool, error checking on the hard drive, problem reports and solutions, disk clean up and defrag.. theres gonna be something else, maybe I dont have ALL the drivers updated or maybe I do and just dont have the most recent update...Im hoping you guys can tell me what to do.
Im not real computer smart but since all this has been happening Ive learned alot. Ill post all the info I can and if theres anything you wanna know Ill post it too. Ill check this alot so Ill reply asap. Attacted is a diagnostics, dxdiag, hwmonitor reports and screenshots of all the cpu-z and gpu-z. I dont know if any of these tells the same thing but I figure it wouldnt hurt to post em all...

Got a laptop that, when a user logs in the following message is displayed and the system logs off again "Windows can not log on because you have not activated your copy of windows Error Code 0XC004F028 Software Licensing Service reported that the policy cache is invalid" Given that I cant login to activate vista is there any suggestions. To make matters worse the cd drive has set to second boot device, F12 function has been disabled and Bios has been locked.... and yes you huessed it they dont know the password for BIOS
