To make matters worse the cd drive has set to second boot device, F12 function has been disabled and Bios has been locked.... and yes you huessed it they dont know the password for BIOS

May 27, 2009in my Windows Update, this 'optional' update is forever on there, waiting for me to install it. Well, when I do try to install it, it just ends up failing with error code 80070103 (Unknown error). Is this update necessary for regular use or do I need it, despite it being labeled optional. Oh, and why does it fail continually?

Jul 30, 2009Vista 64 Home Premium. Woke to find my computer had rebooted itself during the night and Windows failed to restart. Didn't catch the error code, but the message said if Windows won't restart, insert startup disc and do a repair. That is what I ended up doing as Windows simply wouldn't start up. Anyway, repair worked but my desktop looks like from a week ago. The desktop icons for Thunderbird and a couple of other recently installed programs are no longer there. Their program folders, however, are still in the Program Files folder but with no .exe file. Is there a way to repair the programs so that they are in sync with my current windows install?
This is a new machine recently purchased from a popular online vendor. They installed Vista. I've only had it two weeks and have kept it in pristine condition and it has been working fine....until now. I think Vista tanked overnight during an update. I'm new to Vista, has this happened to others?

Oct 15, 2009hoping some of you technical wizards can help me on this! Right i have Vista 32bit running on my Acer, Had it about 1 year now. Every so often it performs crash dumps ( a little more often then it should do actually) Last friday night it did a crash dump, then when restarting it just wouldnt....It kept showing a blank screen for about 30 minutes. then it would go to Windows Start-up repair, and just go on and on for about another 30 minutes, then tell me it couldnt find anything wrong.
I tried Loading in safe mode, with command prompt and networking help but it judt did exactly the same. I ran the memory diagnostic and found no problems. So then i restored the system to before a Windows update on the same day this all happened. Exactly the same kept happening, Some times i would get as far as logging on after about an hour of waiting. It would Log on and then just freeze. I restored to a few days before last friday and tried again, exactly the same kept happening. Then this morning it got to the log on screen. i tried logging on and it said something along the lines of 'Windows has failed to Activate. error code0x80070426' I havent got any back-ups on disk (stupid i know, i was actually going to do one before this happened) I havent got the operating system disk as the computer came pre-installed with Vista and had no Disk. I know i could probably restore the system to factory setting somehow, but i dont want to lose verything on there! There must be something i can do.

Mar 4, 2009My daughter suddenly experiences: Windows Defender: "Error Code 0x800106ba Application failed to initialize" This is a fairly new machine (running Vista Home Premium) and it was delivered with McAfee virus protection installed. The initial McAfee license is about to expire so she renewed that license for a permanent licence today. There may of course be a connection here, but I fail to see what that connection could be.
She was guided to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931849 which suggests to initially remove (uninstall) Windows Defender and then reinstall it. The only problem with this is that Windows Defender is not included in the list of installed programs that can be uninstalled, and when she tries to "reinstall" it Windows Defender is reported as already present on the system. I checked on my own system where Windows Defender is running without any problem, and the same applies here: Windows Defender is not listed among installed programs.
Install SP1 From The Windows Update Code "8024200D"
Jul 5, 2008I try to install SP1 from the windows update or from the stand alone version. I keep getting this code " 8024200D " from the windows update. Its the only update I see on the Windows Update available. The laptop is running Vista Home Premium. I ran the sfc /scannow and it didn't find anything wrong . I also ran the memory test with memtest 86+ and found no errors. Is there a way to fix this?

When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.

Mar 26, 2008I an unable to have SP1 intall on my computer. When I run Windows Update, it begins the download, then fails after a few minutes, then
gives me the "click here for help" After clicking (obviously ) there are 5 things MS has you do. I tried all 5 and my computer passed,
but SP1 still will not install.
Thinking that maybe Updater was being mean, I dowloaded the stand alone update. When I run that it installs to 50%, then hangs and requires it to be manually cancelled.
The only error I get is "Code 800736B3" which seems to only refer to Dreamscene, and not SP1. That or my google-fu is weak.
Retrieving The Activation Code
Mar 25, 2008I am wondering if there is any possible way of retrieving the activation code, currently in the process of creating a Vista Home Basic DVD with SP1 intergrated into it, currently have same activated and legit on system. I relise that you can call or even activate it over the internet, but this is anoying everytime I install a fresh copy of the OS. I am creating my own personal edition of vista that contains SP1 and Programs I enjoy using.

I purchased 32bit Vista early after its release and then sent off to Ireland for the Vista x64 DVD, cost around ?10, I saw the offer in the 32bit box. I'm having some problems so wanting to reinstall 64bit Vista but for the life of me I can't remember whether I need a code to re-install Vista x64 from just the 64bit DVD, or whether I need to install the 32bit version first and then the 64bit upgrade goes in without needing another install code
Could Not Fine The Serial Code
Apr 17, 2009Bought and installed WEB EASY 7. Ran fine no problems. Shut down system and when I started up later and executed WEB Easy it said that it could not fine the serial code. Put the serial code in again and it ran fine, until the next shutdown and restart. Worked about 6 weeks with WEB EASY (Avanquest) to resolve and they could not. Their final fix was to format the disc and install a clean Vista with all updates.
I have not problem with any other software that I have purchased. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WEB EASY from my account with Admin Priv as well as Installed with the "Hidden Administrator" logon. Avanquest has of course said it is Microsofts problem and hung up. Apparently when I do an initial install and enter the serial code as requested it puts it in the worng place or somewhere that later users, including the Administrator, does not have access to; or the prgrram itself
is locked out of.

But I'm backing up C: to a 1.5tera external disk which is almost empty. Disk C is a 320gig disk with 23 gig still free. So what could be the problem?
