View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows Update has tried on numerous occiasions to install Service pack 1 but it fails every time. I went to the vista site and downloaded it on the stand alone link. It downloaded and got half way through installation and it said there was an error. Unfortunately I didnt write down the error code. Why wont it install? Does anyone know? I havent bothered too much about it til now but I wanted to install a 3 broadband dongle modem yesterday and it wont install and I am wondering if the service pack not being on there is causing that.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just built myself a new PC, nice little setup for what i paid for it, but i'm being haunted by occasional BSOD's. Happens about once a day, more if im unlucky. Been trying to pin down exactly what is causing it but im stumped...The error i get is the same every time. It comes up with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and the error code is STOP: 0x0000003B No file names are ever mentioned, always that same BSOD. I'm running Vista Home Premium, the 64 bit edition. Interestingly enough while i was waiting for Microsoft to mail me the 64bit version of Vista i was using my old 32bit version, and i never had this crash. I didnt have it installed for long, so i don't know if i was just lucky, or if this is something that is specific to the 64bit version of Vista.
And the rest, keyboard mouse etc which i doubt is important. 700W PSU as well which i think should be enough. It's kinda hard to reproduce the fault, it mostly happens when i'm playing games, but has also crashed randomly when doing Vista stuff, and once when reading a very long email with my PC doing literally nothing else, so not like i was taxing it... Some things i have noticed though, which is leading me to believe it might be the graphics card. When playing WoW, i have had it crash multiple times at certain specific points. After being killed and releasing my corpse, soon as i hit the button to pop to ghost it's crashed and burned, and also i seem to have it happen a lot when i exit the game, either from in the game itself or logging out and exiting from the main menu. But then it's also been known to just crash at seemingly random points. Thought it could be dodgy ram, so i've done a full memory test, using the windows one and also memtest86 i think its called. Left my PC on overnight with it running, woke up and no errors at all. Using the latest drivers for everything thats in it, tried using beta drivers as well for the graphics card but it didnt help so i uninstalled and went back to the normal driver.
when i enter my computers properties, it says: Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 3, ok so wait service pack 1 wont come out till 2010 may, and here it says i have sp 3

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a users computer for a about a week now and have read about 100 posts on google. I am having trouble uninstalling Service Pack 2 from her Vista X64 machine. I want uninstall the service pack because it has created havoc for her computer. It constantly keeps rebooting at random times and shows a blue screen beginning to dump physical memory. Then when Windows boots back up it says it has recovered from a serious error. On average the computer reboots at least 4 or 5 times a day. I have tried to remove it from the control panel and it says "uninstall was not completed successfully." Her system restore date does not go back far enough, so I can not restore her PC before the SP2 was installed. Have tried all the steps from the following post: How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs as a troubleshooting step. The command line option just sits there for about 5 minutes and then returns to the C: prompt, it never asks me to reboot the system. Another technician installed the SP and he did not save the restore files. I have tried to download the SP 2 and place the file in C: emp and uninstall through the command line but this also does not work. I am stuck and need help uninstalling service pack 2. The user also just purchased an HP printer office jet 6500 and have read online that HP printers have not had much success with Vista x64 systems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, I do not want to reload the PC and I only have remote access to the computer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft Support for Windows Vista (with no service packs installed) ends on April 13, 2010, while support for Windows XP (without Service Pack 3 installed) ends on July 13, 2010. Windows 2000 support will end on July 13, 2010 as well. * There is no Service Pack 3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with SP2, you have the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014. What Does It Mean When Support for My Operating System Ends?
If you are still running a version of Windows where support has ended, it means that version of Windows will no longer receive any updates from the Windows Update or Microsoft Update site. These updates are generally provided for security reasons to help protect the PC from harmful viruses, spyware, malware, and other malicious software. Windows Update also provides new drivers for your hardware that can improve the reliability of Windows. Hackers love to take a security vulnerability in Windows and exploit it to their advantage. So, if a vulnerability is found in Windows XP or Windows Vista and you are not running the latest service pack, you will not be protected and will be at risk.
How Can I Tell What Service Pack is Installed? Follow these steps to discover what Service Pack is installed:
1) Click on the Start Button
2) Right-click on either My Computer or Computer (depending on your Windows version)
3) Click on Properties

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two computers running Vista Home Premium. When Service Pack 1 came out, my desktop, which is a clone I built myself, downloaded and installed Service Pack 1 without any problem, but my Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop seems oblivious to Service Pack 1's existence. Although automatic update is on both computers with similar settings (full automatic update), and the laptop has downloaded a number of updates since then and keeps telling me the computer is up to date, I can't help wondering why Service Pack 1 hasn't downloaded and installed, and whether I should install it manually or just assume the computer has a good reason to not install it and leave it alone.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. I possibly want to upgrade to Windows 7 equivalent. Here's my dilemma: I installed Service Pack 1 via Windows website download manager, and after a fashion, it appeared to have installed and it rebooted my system. It clearly shows as having been installed according to Windows Update History. [Additionally, Service Pack 2 is not offered as a download, but the rest of my query, please.] HOWEVER, according to Microsoft, when I click START > right click COMPUTER, at the top of that resulting page and beneath my version of Vista it should show "Service Pack 1."
In my case, it does not! FURTHER, I downloaded and ran Windows 7 Update Advisor, the results show I need to download and install Service Pack 1. I'm aware that I can download. or order on CD, each of the Service Packs and install, starting with Service Pack 1 before attempting to install Service Pack 2. Why does Service Pack 1 show as installed in Windows Update History, but does NOT seem to be installed according to the two other instances/sources I've mentioned above?

Didn't catch the error code, but the message said if Windows won't restart, insert startup disc and do a repair. That is what I ended up doing as Windows simply wouldn't start up. Anyway, repair worked but my desktop looks like from a week ago. The desktop icons for Thunderbird and a couple of other recently installed programs are no longer there. Their program folders, however, are still in the Program Files folder but with no .exe file. Is there a way to repair the programs so that they are in sync with my current windows install?

Every so often it performs crash dumps ( a little more often then it should do actually) Last friday night it did a crash dump, then when restarting it just wouldnt....It kept showing a blank screen for about 30 minutes. then it would go to Windows Start-up repair, and just go on and on for about another 30 minutes, then tell me it couldnt find anything wrong.
I tried Loading in safe mode, with command prompt and networking help but it judt did exactly the same. I ran the memory diagnostic and found no problems. So then i restored the system to before a Windows update on the same day this all happened. Exactly the same kept happening, Some times i would get as far as logging on after about an hour of waiting. It would Log on and then just freeze. I restored to a few days before last friday and tried again, exactly the same kept happening. Then this morning it got to the log on screen. i tried logging on and it said something along the lines of 'Windows has failed to Activate. error code0x80070426' I havent got any back-ups on disk (stupid i know, i was actually going to do one before this happened) I havent got the operating system disk as the computer came pre-installed with Vista and had no Disk. I know i could probably restore the system to factory setting somehow, but i dont want to lose verything on there! There must be something i can do.
