in my Windows Update, this 'optional' update is forever on there, waiting for me to install it. Well, when I do try to install it, it just ends up failing with error code 80070103 (Unknown error). Is this update necessary for regular use or do I need it, despite it being labeled optional. Oh, and why does it fail continually?
View 8 RepliesThat is the message I get from the icon in my Vista tray. When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.

I received an error: Error details: Code 57A. I tried multiple times to install, all with the same error. I did try downloading the update to my desktop, and install with the option "run as administrator...no luck. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

View 4 Replies View RelatedVista 64 Home Premium. Woke to find my computer had rebooted itself during the night and Windows failed to restart. Didn't catch the error code, but the message said if Windows won't restart, insert startup disc and do a repair. That is what I ended up doing as Windows simply wouldn't start up. Anyway, repair worked but my desktop looks like from a week ago. The desktop icons for Thunderbird and a couple of other recently installed programs are no longer there. Their program folders, however, are still in the Program Files folder but with no .exe file. Is there a way to repair the programs so that they are in sync with my current windows install?

I just installed Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 Intregated, and when I ran updates I failed at installing one update; 'KB938371'. I did some searching, and it seems this is only for those who wants to install SP1 via the Windows Update Service? If thats the case, why does it show? And if that is not the case, why doesnt it install? I've tried to reboot, then installing only that update. Downloading the update and executing, downloaded -> rebooted -> installing.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOkay, I've heard about this horrible update and how it refuses to work, but I went around searching and found no one with the same problem as I did. So here is what happened:
1. I found it through updating, tried to update it, doesn't work (downloaded 9.5 mb, but failure on installation).
2. I manually downloaded from the Microsoft website, installed it, doesn't work (says install failed).
3. I closed everything, including anti-virus (Avast) and firewall. Installed it, doesn't work (same error message).
4. I reboot to try all the above steps again x2, doesn't work (still same error message).
I'm trying to follow the instructions in the WAIK to add a language pack to WINPE (and are failing with an error). I believe this is becuase I'm using the language pack for the operating system not Windows PE so a couple of questions:
1. Is there a specific Language Pack for WindowsPE (2.0)?
2. Where does one get these WINPE specific lanaguage packs from?
I try to install SP1 from the windows update or from the stand alone version. I keep getting this code " 8024200D " from the windows update. Its the only update I see on the Windows Update available. The laptop is running Vista Home Premium. I ran the sfc /scannow and it didn't find anything wrong . I also ran the memory test with memtest 86+ and found no errors. Is there a way to fix this?
View 8 Replies View Relatedhoping some of you technical wizards can help me on this! Right i have Vista 32bit running on my Acer, Had it about 1 year now. Every so often it performs crash dumps ( a little more often then it should do actually) Last friday night it did a crash dump, then when restarting it just wouldnt....It kept showing a blank screen for about 30 minutes. then it would go to Windows Start-up repair, and just go on and on for about another 30 minutes, then tell me it couldnt find anything wrong.
I tried Loading in safe mode, with command prompt and networking help but it judt did exactly the same. I ran the memory diagnostic and found no problems. So then i restored the system to before a Windows update on the same day this all happened. Exactly the same kept happening, Some times i would get as far as logging on after about an hour of waiting. It would Log on and then just freeze. I restored to a few days before last friday and tried again, exactly the same kept happening. Then this morning it got to the log on screen. i tried logging on and it said something along the lines of 'Windows has failed to Activate. error code0x80070426' I havent got any back-ups on disk (stupid i know, i was actually going to do one before this happened) I havent got the operating system disk as the computer came pre-installed with Vista and had no Disk. I know i could probably restore the system to factory setting somehow, but i dont want to lose verything on there! There must be something i can do.
My daughter suddenly experiences: Windows Defender: "Error Code 0x800106ba Application failed to initialize" This is a fairly new machine (running Vista Home Premium) and it was delivered with McAfee virus protection installed. The initial McAfee license is about to expire so she renewed that license for a permanent licence today. There may of course be a connection here, but I fail to see what that connection could be.
She was guided to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931849 which suggests to initially remove (uninstall) Windows Defender and then reinstall it. The only problem with this is that Windows Defender is not included in the list of installed programs that can be uninstalled, and when she tries to "reinstall" it Windows Defender is reported as already present on the system. I checked on my own system where Windows Defender is running without any problem, and the same applies here: Windows Defender is not listed among installed programs.
Microsoft says I need some updates to Silverlight. I can't use the updates (error code 64C), I can't uninstall or Install it (the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.) What should I do?

I have had a read through the update logs, and the error code I am getting is : 0x800b0001. A quick google lead me to belive that this was a problem with cryptographic service provider: Error code when you try to use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates: "0x800B0001". anyway, I tried both of the fixes listed on the page and to no avail. When I tried the software fix, it proceeds to the update, but just pauses about 75% in. when I tried the registering .dll option, the .dll registered but the computer still does not update.

I've gotten this error before on another machine and it was pretty easily fixed by deleting a few folders(as per the instructions in the Help guide). This time, it isn't working. I've tried the steps listed at least a Dozen times, I've downloaded the stand-alone update, combined the error fix with a restart, and I always get the same error. Now, my computer is constantly telling me to install the update, but it won't let me. I really don't want to have to reinstall again.

In Vista64 Ultimate all SoundMax's drivers found (also ASUS_BlackHawk_v30) don't working (error code 10) instead Microsoft's drivers WORKING BUT the microphone don't working. In XP-32bit microphone working ONLY the first time after a clean installation of drivers and software SoundMax, launch Skype and the MIC don't working definitively. View 4 Replies View RelatedClub member's computer. Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. When I first picked it up, no shortcut link to a program would work. I drilled down to the executible files; winword.exe, excel.exe, iexplore.exe and then double click. The error message went something like this: "This file does not have a program associated with it from performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associtation Control Panel." There was no way to "restore to a previous... No dice. With a start up disk, was able to solve that problem.
Disk Cleanup removed 2.45MB. Uninstalled Trend Micro (subscription had expired a year ago!) Installed and updated AVG 9 Free ran a complete scan - nothing. I installed Malwarebytes and it found one insignificant cookie. I went to Windows Update, the first update offered was Service Pack 1. It installed. I downloaded and attempted to install Service Pack 2. Error 0x8004100a with a link to a web page that offered several means of installing the service pack; Windows Update -- found a few insignificant updates, download the SP2 installation file which I had already done, so I did it again. No dice.
