Is this a side effect of some sort of paternalistic code inserted into IE to keep me 'safe' on the Internet? And how come there's no IE7 group on this server? Has Microsoft given up on the product?

When try to restart Windows Firewall sevice: "Wimdows cannot starts the Windows Firewall service. Same in the Safe mode and from Adnministrative Tools. Also failed to load Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap-in. Error code: 0x6D9. When try to use systen restore: "System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. The volume Shadow copy service used by Systen Restore is not working."
4. When I tried to shrimk files for Vista reinstallation, in Computer Managenemt / Storage: "Unable to connect to Virtual Disk Service" and this all happend at once, after i was trying IObit Security Scanning option "Network security" Is anything possible and what and in what order I have to try to do?
After years of being fine on my Vista machines (we have 2 on the network, hard wired through a router usually.. however now they are connected directly to the modem) that have both either lost their internet connection or after many reboots of the modem, connect to a uselessly slow internet connection. I've reset the router, and then gave up alltogether for the direct line to the modem. Comcast came today, couldn't figure it out.. they replaced the modem and claim the internet is fine from their end.
I did install Comcast's Norton Suite 3 weeks ago, which ran fine until now. I slow started having problems, Tivo Desktop couldn't transfer shows, then wifi connected devices like my iphone would ask over and over again for the password to the network. Then my VNC program stopped connecting to my home computer. Then, ultimately the internet connection was lost. All these things happened a few days after each other. Comcast has told me I am on my own, they don't know what else to do. The kicker is that the internet is good and fast if I boot in SAFE MODE. I uninstalled Norton on one of my desktops, but still slow internet.
So, the tech tells me the problem is with Vista, says there must've been an update that went on both computers that is causing the problem. So I have no clue where to go to from there. I unistalled Norton on the one machine using Windows Uninstall to get rid of it. Is part of it there still? It's so weird that both computers have the identical problem, yet its not the internet connection that is causing it.
When I put a disk into my CD/DVD drive and then go into Computer and click my E: drive, all I get is the 'Please insert disc into E: ...' message. Up until a few days ago the exact same discs were working with my system, and they're working because I've run them on my PS3 to check.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have an HP Pavilion Slimline Vista 64, a few days ago i tried putting in my SD card in the built-in slot but my computer wouldnt detect, i tried viewing the files on my phone and the files wouldnt come up there either, it said that i had a card in but the card had 0% space used up, but also had 0% free. so i figured the card was no good anymore...then i tried viewing files from a PRO Duo stick, which the computer also has a built-in slot for, and itwouldnt detect it either(even though the little green light that indicates a card being put in flashes) but when i insert the PRO Duo in my PSP i can view the files just fine.
View 8 Replies View RelatedUsing my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista). Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it ransfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky). Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:
Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out..........
I am running Vista Home Premium, 6.0, SP1. I have a Lexmark 8350 that has been running fine. Today I decided to use the Photo Card reading capability on the Lexmark. I put an xD photo card in and the printer read it fine, allowed me to view and print photos from the printer LCD screen. However, when I try to "save to computer" I have problems. It brings up the interface window on the computer with the message "Cannot detect photo card inserted". Which is odd, since the card is definitely inserted with the photos being read by the printer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI an unable to have SP1 intall on my computer. When I run Windows Update, it begins the download, then fails after a few minutes, then
gives me the "click here for help" After clicking (obviously ) there are 5 things MS has you do. I tried all 5 and my computer passed,
but SP1 still will not install.
Thinking that maybe Updater was being mean, I dowloaded the stand alone update. When I run that it installs to 50%, then hangs and requires it to be manually cancelled.
The only error I get is "Code 800736B3" which seems to only refer to Dreamscene, and not SP1. That or my google-fu is weak.
I am wondering if there is any possible way of retrieving the activation code, currently in the process of creating a Vista Home Basic DVD with SP1 intergrated into it, currently have same activated and legit on system. I relise that you can call or even activate it over the internet, but this is anoying everytime I install a fresh copy of the OS. I am creating my own personal edition of vista that contains SP1 and Programs I enjoy using.

I purchased 32bit Vista early after its release and then sent off to Ireland for the Vista x64 DVD, cost around ?10, I saw the offer in the 32bit box. I'm having some problems so wanting to reinstall 64bit Vista but for the life of me I can't remember whether I need a code to re-install Vista x64 from just the 64bit DVD, or whether I need to install the 32bit version first and then the 64bit upgrade goes in without needing another install code

View 5 Replies View RelatedBought and installed WEB EASY 7. Ran fine no problems. Shut down system and when I started up later and executed WEB Easy it said that it could not fine the serial code. Put the serial code in again and it ran fine, until the next shutdown and restart. Worked about 6 weeks with WEB EASY (Avanquest) to resolve and they could not. Their final fix was to format the disc and install a clean Vista with all updates.
I have not problem with any other software that I have purchased. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WEB EASY from my account with Admin Priv as well as Installed with the "Hidden Administrator" logon. Avanquest has of course said it is Microsofts problem and hung up. Apparently when I do an initial install and enter the serial code as requested it puts it in the worng place or somewhere that later users, including the Administrator, does not have access to; or the prgrram itself
is locked out of.
Microsoft says I need some updates to Silverlight. I can't use the updates (error code 64C), I can't uninstall or Install it (the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.) What should I do?

After reboot, I ran update and got a bunch of updates. A few days later, update listed sp1 under automatic updates. i ran the update and got this error:

I've gotten this error before on another machine and it was pretty easily fixed by deleting a few folders(as per the instructions in the Help guide). This time, it isn't working. I've tried the steps listed at least a Dozen times, I've downloaded the stand-alone update, combined the error fix with a restart, and I always get the same error. Now, my computer is constantly telling me to install the update, but it won't let me. I really don't want to have to reinstall again.
I have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. I have tried 4 times to update to the Vista SP 1. All 4 times the install has failed with an error code of 80041315.

In Vista64 Ultimate all SoundMax's drivers found (also ASUS_BlackHawk_v30) don't working (error code 10) instead Microsoft's drivers WORKING BUT the microphone don't working. In XP-32bit microphone working ONLY the first time after a clean installation of drivers and software SoundMax, launch Skype and the MIC don't working definitively. But I'm backing up C: to a 1.5tera external disk which is almost empty. Disk C is a 320gig disk with 23 gig still free. So what could be the problem? The first error code was 80070246 and the update stopped at 13%. I tried again after a weeks time, and now the code i'm getting is error code 80071A30. I cant find this code explaination anywhere. View 5 Replies View RelatedI like MS but hate it when they screw around with a good program. Sound Recorder in Pre-Vista Windows was a simple but useful program. Sound Recorder in Vista is a severly crippled version that only records in one format without being able to select other compression formats.
I copied Sound Recorder from XP (renamed it Sound Recorder XP) and copied it to my Vista machine. It works but only has the "stock" compression options. I installed l3codeca.acm (Mpeg Layer3) and placed it in my System32 folder but it still doesn't show up as an option in Sound Recorder XP.
How can I get the Mpeg Layer3 option to show up as an option in Sound Recorder XP on Vista? Can I even do this? I remeber seeing something about MS changing something in Vista so it won't recognize MP3 code programs.
