Right click on the icon and select Rename.
Then hold down the ALT key and type in 255 on your right keypad. If you are on a laptop turn on numlock and use the K and I keys to enter in 255. This is the code for a space.....

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been away from the computer for the past three weeks, and when I got home I discovered everything in perfect working order. Everything, that is, except for my User Folder. None of the subfolders (Music, Videos, Pictures, etc.) have text beneath the icons. This only happens if I have the folder in icon view, no matter the size. List, Details, and Tiles all show the appropriate information, but the names of the folders disappear as soon as I slide the view to Small Icons.
This is true for anything else in the User Folder. For example, I tried moving a file there from the desktop, only to have that file's name disappear. Removing it back to the desktop confirmed that the file still had its original title. Creating a new file in the folder yields the same result. The subfolders themselves still have their names, and I can see them if click "Rename" on any of the folders.
What the title says right after i restarted my computer the taskbar and all my destop icons were gone i still got my sidebar running but thats it. I tried right clicking my desktop nothing showed up. I would like a answer asap

Ive tried the fix in the registry but it just happens again later. I can reboot and everything is back but after awhile they just disapear again. I know is has something to do with SP1 because i didnt have this problem untill installing it. Is there any perminent fixes out there. Or is just getting rid of sp1 the only good fix. View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter reinstalling Vista, I noticed that the taskbar icons were no longer displayed as large icons. I believe there used to be an option available to display large icons. I haven't been able to figure out how to make the icons and buttons on the taskbar larger.
FYI, I am running Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2, with all Microsoft updates applied.
I have installed some programs on the computer of my kids and I dont want them to fiddle with their icons which are found near the time they are closing the programs all the time. I dont even want to hide the icons, I want them gone from the taskbar without effecting the operation of the program. I know XP allows icons to be always hidden but then you can reveal them by clicking on the small arrow buttons i dont want that, just want them gone.

When he turned on this morning it started up but it was just the wallpaper, no icons no taskbar no start menu NOTHING :s Tryed to boot in safe mode and fails... What could that be? I was thinking hdd failure?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI normally set up my taskbar two rows in heighth with the quick launch icons on the far left. This leaves the middle section for the "open tabs". I recently did a clean reinstall (restored an image) and somewhere in that process or the ensuing windows updates, the taskbar layout got all screwed up and I am unable to make it right. This is what is there now (with the task bar unlocked so the "dotted section divider lines" are visible: On the far left next to the Start button is the first set of divider lines.
(Normally, the quick launch icons are to the left of this line). To the right of the divider lines are the "tabs" for open windows. Then to the right of these are the second set of divider lines, followed by the quick launch icons, followed by the third set of divider lines. To the right of the third set is an address tool bar I installed and then the notification area. I have searched through the microsoft site and found nothing that helps me with this. This anomoly has happened before (sometime ago with XP) and somehow I fixed it by "fiddling around". My curse in life is that I am not able to live with these little annoyances.
The arrows in the icons in Vista are annoying me. After a bit of googling, I've found out that a utility called 'Vista Shortcut Manager' can be used to remove those arrows without any manual registry editing. Thing is I can find only the x86 version of the software but I'm using the Vista x64.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have rebooted my Laptop normally, I logged into Windows Vista and i was surprised by having the Desktop background disappeared along with it's Icons. The programs work fine... I tried choosing a picture and setting it to a desktop background. Still nothing. I terminated explorer.exe, The desktop background appeared. but since i terminated it, the taskbar and icons are gone. I Can't right click on the desktop, and when i move the cursor inside it, it's still "loading" for ever.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe login screen for my computer is missing all text and controls except the speech assistance button in the bottom left corner. If you click this the password filed does display and you can login. After login all text is missing from icons etc. Start menu will not display nor will right click menu. If applications are lanced they show in the task bar but never become visible. That said full screen applications such as games will launch from the desktop and work fine. I have scanned the hard drive for viruses with AVG from a Ubuntu instance on the computer which found no viruses.

View 5 Replies View Relatedrecently I've just been noticing a lot of text being cutt off at the end, or even cutt of vertically when it goes to a second line. I've posted about this on a couple other forums but had no success fixing it and my google searches aint produced much either. I thought this was just winamp messing up at first but then i noticed it in itunes as well and now i keep seeing it everywhere, in some webpages and a few other apps. Heres a few examples. A while back i had some problems with a load of fonts being deleted somehow so that vista started using some other ones instead. in the end i fixed this by copying all the missing fonts from my vista laptop over to my desktop. Dunno if this is what has caused my current prob but might have something to do with it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running vista 64 home premium and I have noticed that on a number of windows games the hint windows are dispalying over large fonts so you cant read the entire hint. for example in freecell when you try to move a stack of cards thats too large the hint window is supposed to tell you how many cards you are able to move at that moment, but that part of the message is off the egde of the window. Ive noticed this with all the card games the mahjong game even the kids game Purble place. Ive tried adjusting the fonts dpi setting and even the advanced setting from personalizations.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWell for what I use a computer for email, browsing, e-commerce and blogging, SP1 made no difference. Still swapping windows at random and loosing text in input forms and applications. In short, not something we disabled folks can use effectively or efficiently. I'll bet business productivity is truly terrible if everyone has my experience. I can't even get MSN to recognize my spelling dictionary from Office 2007. Vista's just not a good product from my standpoint.

when I open Windows mail from the command bar it goes straight to the taskbar and I have to click it to open in a normal window. How can I get it to open in a normal window like it's supposed to do? This is in IE7 64bit, it opens normally in the 32bit version. When it is minimized in the taskbar any left or right click will open it so I cannot just right click it and use a command. I've tried all the obvious stuff and nothing seems to work.
