After reinstalling Vista, I noticed that the taskbar icons were no longer displayed as large icons. I believe there used to be an option available to display large icons. I haven't been able to figure out how to make the icons and buttons on the taskbar larger.
FYI, I am running Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2, with all Microsoft updates applied.
and also when deleting files recycle bin shows a black icon..

The problem is that the folder customization / layout never stays the way you set it, even minutes later after closing/re-opening explorer. This is driving me insane. For example, in explorer under Computer I choose large icons. Close, re-open its back to list view instead. Sometimes other folders will somehow change views by themselves too. This is really annoying.

When I open a folder I see the views set to the extra large icons. I have to set them back and when I open a new folder the icons there are extra large as well. How do I solve this problem?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the same problems as a lot of people, also with my network and sound my internet security icon also disapeares. Ive tried the fix in the registry but it just happens again later. I can reboot and everything is back but after awhile they just disapear again. I know is has something to do with SP1 because i didnt have this problem untill installing it. Is there any perminent fixes out there. Or is just getting rid of sp1 the only good fix. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have installed some programs on the computer of my kids and I dont want them to fiddle with their icons which are found near the time they are closing the programs all the time. I dont even want to hide the icons, I want them gone from the taskbar without effecting the operation of the program. I know XP allows icons to be always hidden but then you can reveal them by clicking on the small arrow buttons i dont want that, just want them gone.

have done a system restore but that didn't cure it. other user accounts are not affected
When he turned on this morning it started up but it was just the wallpaper, no icons no taskbar no start menu NOTHING :s Tryed to boot in safe mode and fails... What could that be? I was thinking hdd failure?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI normally set up my taskbar two rows in heighth with the quick launch icons on the far left. This leaves the middle section for the "open tabs". I recently did a clean reinstall (restored an image) and somewhere in that process or the ensuing windows updates, the taskbar layout got all screwed up and I am unable to make it right. This is what is there now (with the task bar unlocked so the "dotted section divider lines" are visible: On the far left next to the Start button is the first set of divider lines.
(Normally, the quick launch icons are to the left of this line). To the right of the divider lines are the "tabs" for open windows. Then to the right of these are the second set of divider lines, followed by the quick launch icons, followed by the third set of divider lines. To the right of the third set is an address tool bar I installed and then the notification area. I have searched through the microsoft site and found nothing that helps me with this. This anomoly has happened before (sometime ago with XP) and somehow I fixed it by "fiddling around". My curse in life is that I am not able to live with these little annoyances.
I have rebooted my Laptop normally, I logged into Windows Vista and i was surprised by having the Desktop background disappeared along with it's Icons. The programs work fine... I tried choosing a picture and setting it to a desktop background. Still nothing. I terminated explorer.exe, The desktop background appeared. but since i terminated it, the taskbar and icons are gone. I Can't right click on the desktop, and when i move the cursor inside it, it's still "loading" for ever.

Several days ago I deleted the 'powershell' folder, and, underneath that folder, was surprised to find a dead copy of the 'powershell' folder. The deleted 'powershell' folder was in the recycle bin, and an undeleted dead copy on the desktop. This dead copy cannot be accessed with selection, left-click, or right-click operations - so the 'Properties' info cannot be displayed.........

I have heard that Vista and Windows Mail do not have email limits. I am using the same incoming and outgoing mail servers that I was using with Outlook without any problems. View 9 Replies View RelatedI use Acronis True Image to create an image of my C: partition. If the backup is important, I then burn this image file to a DVD. Unfortunately, the image file is now too large to fit on a single DVD. Does Windows Vista have a way to split files that could be burned to separate DVDs and later re-assembled if needed? I checked my Nero manual and it does not seem to offer the capability to span multiple CD/DVDs.
View 8 Replies View RelatedDesktop with Vista Home Premium 32-bit, 3MB RAM, dual HDs-RAID 1. Laptop with Vista Ultimate 64-bit, 4MB RAM. dual HDs, no RAID. LAN is based on Dlink DIR-655 giga-switch and draft-N wireless router. Both PCs have giga NICs. I treat the desktop as "Home Base." When I travel, I copy (manual drag-and-drop) my personal data to the laptop across the network. If I make changes while on the road, I copy teh data back to the desktop. I keep my personal data lots of folders in the Public Folder on each PC.
No problems until now, I have much more data on the desktop. One folder is 66GB. Within that folder I have sub folders of 16GB and 28GB. 65GB folder will not copy to the laptop. Copy message says "calculating" then disappears and nothing has been copied. I cannot copy the 16GB folder to another folder on the same HD. Why not? Is there an upper limit on size of folders/files that can be copied?
I tried the backup & end up with 52 or 31 GB file to store, which is too large for CD/DVD or partitions on my HD. As an OAP external drive is expensive. Is this backup only for Companies?

My laptop has very few applications I installed and only one is over 1GB and its a bit torrent full of music(2.4GB) so does it really take such a massive supply of memory just to run it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the exact problem as another member. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a 15 inch Toshiba laptop my first computer ever. I changed the DPI screen resolution to the largest print since it was orginally too small to see and now cannot access the bottom of that screen to make any changes to reset it back small again. This enlargement of the screen also occurs on many of the control panel screens and all websites I visit. Spent hours trying everything possible all kinds of ways to fix this and very frustrated. Tried to enter through Classic Control Panel and Ease of Use suggestion to change it but no luck. Will read up on that safe mode idea. My 20 something computer neighbor was also baffled and tried to reboot but was unable to do this either hoping to reset it all back to the factory settings.
