My windows folder takes 15.1GB of my 32GB on my C drive and the Winsxs folder inside it takes up 9.8GB, is that normal? My laptop has very few applications I installed and only one is over 1GB and its a bit torrent full of music(2.4GB) so does it really take such a massive supply of memory just to run it?
View 4 RepliesDesktop with Vista Home Premium 32-bit, 3MB RAM, dual HDs-RAID 1. Laptop with Vista Ultimate 64-bit, 4MB RAM. dual HDs, no RAID. LAN is based on Dlink DIR-655 giga-switch and draft-N wireless router. Both PCs have giga NICs. I treat the desktop as "Home Base." When I travel, I copy (manual drag-and-drop) my personal data to the laptop across the network. If I make changes while on the road, I copy teh data back to the desktop. I keep my personal data lots of folders in the Public Folder on each PC.
No problems until now, I have much more data on the desktop. One folder is 66GB. Within that folder I have sub folders of 16GB and 28GB. 65GB folder will not copy to the laptop. Copy message says "calculating" then disappears and nothing has been copied. I cannot copy the 16GB folder to another folder on the same HD. Why not? Is there an upper limit on size of folders/files that can be copied?
I have a folder with about 200 subfolders which are for my pictures and I would like all of them to open up in a large format. How is this done?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have lots of folders of digital photos. I like them to open up with the folders and photos already on "Extra Large" so I can see what's what. Somehow I changed something when I was trying to optimize performance, and now every time I open a folder all the jpegs or folders that are inside it are the smallest size. I know I can just go up to Views and change it, but I don't want to have to do that every time. Is there some setting I can return to how it used to be so that folders and images are automatically on the largest size? I think there must be because that's how it used to be.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my windows vista (ultimate x64).It crashes in BSoD every time I try to download one or more large files at once (>=100Mb), or when I surf on many internet pages at once (e.g. when I start Opera and it opens 10 tabs simultaneously). I hope it's not due to my hardware, since it's a new computer, but I had another o/s before (XP) on the same computer, and it didn't crash.I hope you guys can save me =)
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running vista 64 home premium and I have noticed that on a number of windows games the hint windows are dispalying over large fonts so you cant read the entire hint. for example in freecell when you try to move a stack of cards thats too large the hint window is supposed to tell you how many cards you are able to move at that moment, but that part of the message is off the egde of the window. Ive noticed this with all the card games the mahjong game even the kids game Purble place. Ive tried adjusting the fonts dpi setting and even the advanced setting from personalizations.

Well, my computer crashed out and I had to get a new hard drive. I tried to follow the instructions from the previously solved thread, but I can not find the "desktop.ini". I have heard that Vista and Windows Mail do not have email limits. I am using the same incoming and outgoing mail servers that I was using with Outlook without any problems. View 9 Replies View RelatedI use Acronis True Image to create an image of my C: partition. If the backup is important, I then burn this image file to a DVD. Unfortunately, the image file is now too large to fit on a single DVD. Does Windows Vista have a way to split files that could be burned to separate DVDs and later re-assembled if needed? I checked my Nero manual and it does not seem to offer the capability to span multiple CD/DVDs.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the exact problem as another member. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a 15 inch Toshiba laptop my first computer ever. I changed the DPI screen resolution to the largest print since it was orginally too small to see and now cannot access the bottom of that screen to make any changes to reset it back small again. This enlargement of the screen also occurs on many of the control panel screens and all websites I visit. Spent hours trying everything possible all kinds of ways to fix this and very frustrated. Tried to enter through Classic Control Panel and Ease of Use suggestion to change it but no luck. Will read up on that safe mode idea. My 20 something computer neighbor was also baffled and tried to reboot but was unable to do this either hoping to reset it all back to the factory settings.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to back up a large program to several discs. In XP this was not a problem. It prompted you for the next disc. However in Vista (I have the Home Edition,) I'm told the disc is too small and to either "retry" or "cancel." I can't believe it doesn't do what XP did...I've already saved the program to a removable hard drive but I'd like to back it up to disc anyway. Am I missing something in the control panel? A setting of some kind? Or doest Vista just NOT do that?

i tried to delete them (right click > delete). but when i restart my computer the folders are there again: how can i get vista to stop renewing those damn folders.
when I checked my computer today I discovered that my imported folders list is no longer showing up in Windows Mail. It is not just hidden, it has completely disappeared. It does not even show up when I check under my appdata user profile in the C: drive. Any ideas where it may have gone? It contains about 10 years of important emails.

View 9 Replies View Relatedafter three months somethong strange has happened in Windows Mail. The folders on the right hand side of the screen have vanished. (inbox,sent,deleted etc.) I can get them back by clicking on local folders and then double clicking each one in turn. However when I close down W.M. and start up again, I have to go through that process again. I tell you what, I had Outlook Express for years and it never gave me any trouble.

I did not delete them and can't find information related to saved folders or options related to saving email messages. Sending/receiving emails works fine and since the files were stored for many months without an issue, I have to conclude it is a problem with Windows Mail. Formerly I used XP/Outlook Express and had no issue with email saved in local folders. I would like to recover my local files.

I think she has a default setup except she uses the single-click setting. The behavior is that I start Windows Explorer, in "explorer view", naturally. But when I click on a drive or folder in the left-hand "folders" column, the folder opens but the left-hand column disappears! Of course, I'm sure you all know that in Vista, in the View menu of Windows Explorer, in the "Explorer bar" sub-menu, there is no longer any "Folders" item to select like there has been for a few previous versions of Windows. Is there some replacement mechanism I can use to restore the column, some mechanism that is so well hidden that this seasoned Windows user can't find it? And is there some way to prevent the column from disappearing?

When permanetely deleting 1 folder it deletes the folders below and they seem gone forever. Searched for emails and folders and they are gone. Must be on the drive somewhere (forensics?)

Have not found any referring to my situation. I want to compact folders. When responding 'OK' to prompt, I receive notification thatprocess is starting with back up then I get another message advising 'folder is already in use by Windows Mail or by another application'. Have tried pausing virus protection but this makes no difference.

When the computer restarted and I opened up Windows mail, for some reason the folders have disappeared and the emails contained in the the folders with them.
