I have a problem with my windows vista (ultimate x64).It crashes in BSoD every time I try to download one or more large files at once (>=100Mb), or when I surf on many internet pages at once (e.g. when I start Opera and it opens 10 tabs simultaneously). I hope it's not due to my hardware, since it's a new computer, but I had another o/s before (XP) on the same computer, and it didn't crash.I hope you guys can save me =)

I noticed that weeks ago I could simply click at a site with an MPEG file and view it without having to download it. Now I am forced (at least at one site) to download it. What can I change of anything to have Vista automatically open it and view it from the remote site.

I have no major problems, but my pc does seem to take a long time to start up and to load / run large files, and sometimes seems to go into a coma. I use CCleaner and Defraggler, and I uninstall/delete anything that I dont need. But my pc does seem to be struggling sometimes. I could add another 2Gb Ram, or I could upgrade to Windows 7 (which I read has much lower overheads??). Or perhaps I should buy a new PC? My question is, how do I decide what the best route is??

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had to re-install Vista after a system crash. I was able to access the restore drive via DOS and pull out the pst (Office 2003) files and copy them to a USB drive. I only had 1 pst file on my system but Vista backed it up to 7 different files. Now when I try to add these files to the restored system I get an error saying the file is not a a personal folders file. I used SCANPST on the largest backed up file and it recovered some of my email but when I try to use SCANPST on the other 6 backup files it says the files are
not personal folders files.

I was expecting to get an actual tutorial, not just other peoples problems (as you call a forum). I downloaded a Google video and it went into MP4 format. I do not have an MP4, MP3 or other recording device. I wanted it in Media Player. Dell told me to transfer it to media player, but it said it did not recognize MP4 format, so it didn't transfer and won't play.
Do you have an actual tutorial (not forum) on this subject? If so, how do I access it? This is a new computer with VISTA installed. To say the least, I HATE IT. It has not worked properly since installed. It is so complicated trying to get results. Dell has tried repeatedly, but nothing works.... Now they want me to do complete system recovery by reinstalling the Operating System and Drivers discs that came with the computer. It should have been installed correctly in the first place. I'm running vista 64 home premium and I have noticed that on a number of windows games the hint windows are dispalying over large fonts so you cant read the entire hint. for example in freecell when you try to move a stack of cards thats too large the hint window is supposed to tell you how many cards you are able to move at that moment, but that part of the message is off the egde of the window. Ive noticed this with all the card games the mahjong game even the kids game Purble place. Ive tried adjusting the fonts dpi setting and even the advanced setting from personalizations.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHave a Dell M1530 laptop with 2Gb of ram running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Without installing any new programs, I have started getting frequent errors about a windows explorer crash. There is nothing in the error message that I can interpret to help find a solution. I can click on either find an online fix or just restart the program with the same results. It gives a restart of windows explorer and goes on.
I thought maybe installing SP1 would fix any glitches but it didn't. The service pack installed nicely and the machine runs fine otherwise. I checked for viruses and malware but nothing but the usual spyware which I cleaned off. I am not sure what windows explorer does. It is much more than the file system and the error happens without opening the regular windows explorer program. I see it is always running in the process list.
I have had a number of Windows updates and each time the PC has crashed when they have tried to be installed. Today I tried again and allowed one installation KB 979306. This failed to install and I got an error code 8024200D. The update that caused the crash was KB 979099. These are both classed as important.

The screen goes black, then fills with vertical pinstrips over the entire screen, and the sound 'freezes' like a skipping CD, repeating what was last said or heard over and over rapidly. Ok,... recent changes i've made. I've had a new video card for about a month, but everything worked fine until a week ago.
I installed the two above mentioned video games, which use punkbuster, a product I have no experience with. Incidentaly, the problems began about the time I started using punkbuster. However, I restored the system to a point previous to the punk buster installation, and the system is still crashing. Is it my new video card (ATI Radeon B2 512 HD 2600 xt PCI), or something else.
At every startup now, Windows explorer gets an appcrash in module ntdll.dll. I can however start Task manager. Using TM, I can start various programs such as Firefox, Thunderbird etc. It now seems that if I maximize Task Manager, I can start Windows explorer (using TM) and WE will come up without crashing. However, if the desktop is (or rather, would be) visible upon an attempted start of WE, it will crash. When trying to start explorer using TM, the crash will be in various modules, not only ntdll.dll. So, my understanding is that WE crashes upon startup because of something that is visible on the desktop. But there are only various icons, and nothing special.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI cannot download anything. everything looks to download correctly but the files are not to be found afterwards. the dialog box for "firefox downloads" has OPEN and OPEN CONTAINING FOLDER greyed out. last night i went into safe mode and ran avg, No virius found. went into IE and checked if downloads were disabled, they were not. I empied the private data in firefox, and ran disk clean up. even went as far as uninstalling firefox and checked the box to remove all user info (Lost all my bookmarks). nothing I have read about this problem has worked. please help. I cant even get pdf files, programs, pics, mp3. nothing at all comes through.
