Aug 24, 2009When I send a photo attachment in a Windows Mail message the photo is sent BOTH as an attachment AND in the body of the message, and messages seem to take forever to send.
I am using Vista Home Premium. My mail sending format is HTML and I have unchecked the "send pictures with messages" box in the set HTML settings.
Unable To Receive Attachments Sending From Outlook
Oct 4, 2009My PC is running on Windows Vista SP1 and I am using Windows Mail as my mailclient. Two of my colleagues have recently started using Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 respectively as their mail client (both of them running on an Windows XP SP3 PC). It happened several times already that I was only able to receive the text of their email messages, but not any attachments at all. Their attachments are Word documents and PDF files. It has never happened before when my colleagues were using OE6 as their default mail client

May 14, 2010For the last couple of weeks when I receive mail with attached pdf files, if I try to move or delete the mail Windows Mail hangs. Sometime it recovers but otherwise I need to kill it. I can open the attachment by clicking on the paper clip etc and everything seems fine so I don't think it's a security thing.

Jul 29, 2009Starting about 2 weeks ago, I can't open attachments in Windows Mail. Message says "command failed to execute" I have been reading the posts and still don't know what to do. How do I know if IE8 has been installed as an update? I'm inexperienced with technical stuff. I don't think I installed it, could it have installed on it's own as an update? Tried saving them to desktop but don't know how to separate them from the e-mail, so they still don't open.

Windows Mail- Not Sending
Jun 6, 2008I have recently purchased a new computer (Dell Inspiron ) running Windows desktop home premium. I transferred everything over from the old computer to the new and everything works splendidly, except Windows Mail. I am not for sure if this problem surfaced after a short period of using my new computer or if this was there from the get-go, but I cannot get my Windows mail to send. It receives just fine, on all accounts and sends fine on all accounts but my main one. I have a mail server with my domain hosting service and every time I attempt to send mail through this account I get the Windows security box that says logon to my mail server. I typed in username and password, click okay, and wait. The box pops back up and says logon again. Apparently for some reason it's not accepting my user name and password. I've gone through all the settings with tech support, including using the various ports they recommend. Still no go. I don't know what else I can do, I don't even know where the problem is emanating from, all I know is I cannot send my e-mail using my primary account.

Jun 23, 2008windows mail has trouble sending and recieving e-mail, it will download 4 or 5 messages and then lock up on one for hours till we have to cnacel and re-recieve the mail then we get duplicates of everything and then it will lock up on a different message. most messages have to be sent twice to go through mainly sending quickbooks stuff, invoices etc.. I have read a few posts so far about this we have norton antivirus. Norton says windows mail problem or isp problem. isp says norton problem email scanning is off.

Apr 28, 2010I have been using Windows Mail with Vista Home Premium 32 bit and Norton 360 for about two years now. All has worked very well, but lately every so often (not all the time) when I click send on an email it disappears and does not get sent, and a message comes up and says windows mail had a problem and to check windows for new updates. The computer has all new updates. So I have to create my email all over and click send again and then it goes. This is frustrating when it is a long email to someone and it is just gone. Where does it go? I can't find it anywhere. It's just gone.
Has this happened to anyone? I have turned off the antispam feature on Norton to see if this helps, I'll keep you updated as it may be days before it does it again. Like I said it only does it every once in awhile, specially when it is real important.

Jun 20, 2009There is something stopping me from receiving and sending e-mail from WINDOWS MAIL Everything else works good on my computer. If i go to the Internet and sent myself mail from there it works. What could be stopping it? I have eastlink security and i am thinking of going to avg. Do you have a link for free avg? I know this problem is not eastlink. I don't have ad-aware or any other virus program. I have Internet 8.

There is no error message but I looked into it a little closer after not getting replies from several email I had sent out. The email go into my out box and appear to leave as normal when sent. I have tried emptying my out box, checked all settings with my ISP, and read a lot of post with out seeing anything else to try.

Jul 29, 2009I have read most of the recent posts here regarding not being able to send or receive email with Windows Mail. I now have the same problem (it is recent).
- Verizon is my ISP
- I am using Vista 64
- Norton is my A/V
- I downloaded Windows Live and tried that as well.. still not working
- Here are my email settings:
Incoming mail (POP3): incoming.verizon.net
Outgoing mail (SMTP): outgoing.verizon.net
I have logon with secure authentication checked and outgoing server requiring authentication checked. on the Advanced tab I have tried with both the SSL boxes checked and unchecked.............

can now open PPS files but when I try to open a PDF attachment it opens up
Microsoft Office Picture Manager. The only way I can view the attachment is
to save it to another folder and then open it with Adobe 9.1.

Oct 9, 2009I use a Vista and my Windows mail does not send any email with attachments like pictures or short movies, pps and others. Small attchments and normal outgoing emails work fine. I use ZoneAlarm and already disabled the email function, and dont know what else to do.

Usually, if I close OE and reopen, it will operate properly. Sometimes it is necessary to close and reopen more than one time. This never occurred prior to installing IE8. I am using Vista (64) home premium.

About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.

May 14, 2009Recently bought a Dell Inspiron laptop from Future Shop and having a
couple of challenges:
1. Regarding standard text signature at the end of an e-mail: I set up
going through tools, options, signature and want it to appear at the end
of each originally created e-mail and the end of each reply or
forward...in Arial and font size of 10. Works fine when I create an
e-mail, but for a reply or a forward appears as Times New Roman.
Anything I can do to ensure always shows as Arial?
2. Regarding attachments received with an e-mail: often unable to open
when I click on. Someone suggested saving the attachment to the desk top
and then opening...generally works but a pain to save. Someone suggested
the problem is that I don't have full Microsoft Office suite on the
laptop just what came with it-Microsoft Works. Attachements being sent
are not unusual...generally Word, Excel, PDF or PowerPoint. Any
suggestion so that I don't have to save to desktop?
3. Last question...laptop came with a webcam, the workings of which I
am new to. Doesn't always open/work when I click on its icon...window
opens and says " please plug in a supported webcam". Sometimes when I
unplug from internet and reboot computer the webcam works.
