Do You Think Windows Is Slow, Crash-prone, Or Unreliable? Join The Crowd.

May 8, 2008

Im posting this to the XP newsgroup too, just so they can be even more warned about how bad vista is, and to avoid it. I still cannot understand how stupid some vista fanboys like frank and others are about vista. Here all the world is saying vista is crap, yet they put their fingers in their ears and march to their own microsoft vista tune!

read the rest of this article on the above link. Do you think Windows Vista is slow, crash-prone, or unreliable? Join the crowd. Over the past year, reviews of Windows Vista by mainstream media outlets, the technical press, bloggers, and ordinary users have been, for the most part, scathing. And many of those bad reviews were absolutely accurate..........

Unreliable Connection

Jun 20, 2009

My PC has difficulties consistently detecting my wireless network, sometimes it's there and then sometimes it just disappears for a few days. It's picking up all the surrounding networks ok so it doesn't seem to be an inherent hardware fault and equally it doesn't seem to be the router as my laptop gets the network ok (even when it's next to the PC, so it wouldn't seem to be interference either). As it's an external USB adapter (Belkin) set-up on the PC, I've tried reinstalling the adapter and drivers etc but that is no guarantee of success either.

Crash Or Slow Down Vista It Usually Gets Documented In Vista's Error Logs

Jun 13, 2008

The often heard recurring theme spread by no nothing trolls and fanboys is if Vista isn't working right, it must be something you did rather than owning up to how badly Vista is designed once you start poking around and SEE how badly implemented it is. Much of the frustration with Vista comes from it's applets crashing or acting up for no apparent reason. Since these applets are INTERNAL and built-in as part of Vista's core the often heard excuse it's some third party driver, a hardware problem or other software you installed is proven to be bogus.

When something happens to either crash or slow down Vista it usually gets documented in Vista's Error Logs. However like most everything else Microsoft does, the logs are of little actual value other than pointing to how poorly designed and broken Vista really is.

To illustrate how broken Vista is, here's my experience this morning. As usual I started my day going to Google (my default home page) and clicking on News to see what the headlines were. Microsoft's browser hung. Waiting for it to respond, after 90 seconds I gave up and sure enough was treated to the usual BS asking if you want to wait longer or shut it down. I shut IE7 down. Next I went to Event Viewer......

Can Not Join To Domain

Mar 8, 2010

Why does it take so long for Vista to join a domain? I have a vista pro machine. Locally everything works fine local user signs on builds the desktop quickly. From the local profile I join a domain. It finds the domain quickly, then asks to reboot.. I reboot sign on as the admin of the domain.. Next step is to build the desktop for the user I'm signing on as.. It just sits on the welcome screen spinning. I do not experience this problem on XP machines joining this same domain. I've also tested it on a Windows 7 machine and did not experience this problem.. I can't figure out why it takes so long on Vista.. I actually never get to the point of building the desktop..I don't really see any hard drive activity either?

Join Domain Takes Long Time

Jan 18, 2010

I have a Vista Business and a Vista Ultimate laptop. I'm trying to join a Windows 2008 domain. It takes forever for both machines to join the domain. If I let it sit it eventually does maybe 40 minutes later. Then when I log off it takes about the same amount of time to log off? It seems like it eventually joins the domain but takes a VERY long time. I don't have this same issue with Windows XP machines..

Windows Explorer Crash

Mar 25, 2008

Have a Dell M1530 laptop with 2Gb of ram running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Without installing any new programs, I have started getting frequent errors about a windows explorer crash. There is nothing in the error message that I can interpret to help find a solution. I can click on either find an online fix or just restart the program with the same results. It gives a restart of windows explorer and goes on.

I thought maybe installing SP1 would fix any glitches but it didn't. The service pack installed nicely and the machine runs fine otherwise. I checked for viruses and malware but nothing but the usual spyware which I cleaned off. I am not sure what windows explorer does. It is much more than the file system and the error happens without opening the regular windows explorer program. I see it is always running in the process list.

Windows Crash, Screen Goes Black

Mar 24, 2008

My computer recently started crashing, mostly during video games (Crysis, Call of Duty 4), and occasionaly during a movie. The screen goes black, then fills with vertical pinstrips over the entire screen, and the sound 'freezes' like a skipping CD, repeating what was last said or heard over and over rapidly. Ok,... recent changes i've made. I've had a new video card for about a month, but everything worked fine until a week ago.

I installed the two above mentioned video games, which use punkbuster, a product I have no experience with. Incidentaly, the problems began about the time I started using punkbuster. However, I restored the system to a point previous to the punk buster installation, and the system is still crashing. Is it my new video card (ATI Radeon B2 512 HD 2600 xt PCI), or something else.

Windows Explorer Crash On Startup

Apr 21, 2008

At every startup now, Windows explorer gets an appcrash in module ntdll.dll. I can however start Task manager. Using TM, I can start various programs such as Firefox, Thunderbird etc. It now seems that if I maximize Task Manager, I can start Windows explorer (using TM) and WE will come up without crashing. However, if the desktop is (or rather, would be) visible upon an attempted start of WE, it will crash. When trying to start explorer using TM, the crash will be in various modules, not only ntdll.dll. So, my understanding is that WE crashes upon startup because of something that is visible on the desktop. But there are only various icons, and nothing special.

Windows 7 Slow LAN Connectivity

Jun 15, 2010

It's really annoying that when you connect two computers to a WiFi AP and try to copy files between them it takes ages to copy anything and is slow beyond any reason. Even when I connected one of them via wire it's still terribly slow and even freezes from time to time. One of the PCs is XP the other runs 7 Ultimate. I already disabled that thing that checks for connection errors or something but still no joy.

Windows Slow Shut Down

Apr 4, 2009

I have an HP530 notebook with standard features and 2GB RAM. The system comes with a bulit in Windows Vista Home edition. For past few months the system has a painfully slow shutdown, in which has taken from 30 minutes to 9 hours to shutdown after i pressed the shutdown button on the start menu. But lately, since last few weeks, upon pressing shutdown, the system gets in to the logging off mode and never shuts down. I have left it for around 12hours one day and it did not finish logging of. I now have to manually give it a hard reboot by pushing down the power button. Is this a known problem or is there any knows solution to this problem.

Join A Multiplayer Game(says "Joining Server... Then Crashes" Or Finish Loading A Single Player Game

Aug 2, 2007

I can sucessfully load up the game and all however whenever i try to join a multiplayer game(says "Joining Server... then crashes" or finish loading a single player game(after the textures are loaded or the shaders it just crashes) OR whenever i click audio in settings my game(right after i click audio it just goes boom) just crashes back to desktop with the BF2142.exe error. I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.

I've tried
1)reinstalling/repatching
2)run the exe as admin.
3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart

Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it. Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.

Is Windows Media Player(v11) On Slow For Anyone?

Mar 20, 2007

I have vista basic and windows media player(v11) is slow as crap. after the window appears it'll take about 20 seconds to load the media that's available(just to get it to a point where it'll respond. then after I select something it lags for about 10-20 seconds and then a 'media changing...' message appears at the bottom left and it'll be about 20 seconds to play that file. so from start to wmp playing something takes up to a minute. wmp11 on my xp puter(512mb hyperthreaded) blows wmp11 on my vista laptop(gig ram amd 64 x2) out of the water. is there something like some setting or something I can change to make things run faster? I like wmp11 and don't want to dl winamp.

Windows Mail Is Mental (and Slow)

May 30, 2008

1) Message rules has a mind of its own. I specify certain mail to be moved to certain folders as they come in - some rules work OK, but others the mail is placed in the wrong folder completely. Not sure yet if this is random or if there is a pattern to it.

2) it is very slow when I try to switch from one folder to another to view the new mail. I often go and browse the internet while waiting for the folder I have selected to finally 'appear'.

I'm also having issues with internet browsing, I tried switching to Mozilla (which has helped some) but still getting issues. Basically it will give me a '404 file not found' error on a website, even tho I the website IS there as I can check on my other computer. Other websites (like ebay) I can get the home page but any attempt to log in gives me "404 not found". I've now managed to get ebay working (either by Mozilla or also I added it to the trusted sites zone), but another website (again placed in my trusted zone) I cannot log in to and even tho I can now get the homepage, the page is just plain text links with no graphics or formatting.

it's very strange but when it's already opened a folder or file and is not closed any other folder or file can be opened without taking these 45 sec, i mean they start normally! and that happens every time the lan cable is unplugged.

Windows Update 80070026, Computer Slow

Apr 5, 2009

My CPU will idle around 30%, and my memory will idle around 40%. I have 3.5GB of ram, and a dualcore 2.4GHZ cpu. I was checking windows update, and it says it cannot download any updates, and it's most recent check was on 9/9/2008. I tried manually downloaded the windows vista service pack 1, but it keeps failing and giving me error 80070026. Some people suggested I turn off things like real time protection, so I uninstalled my McAfee virus scan, and downloaded windows defender instead. I then disabled real time protection on the window's defender. Nothing else should have real time protection, so why can't I update?
