Pdf Attachments, Move Or Delete The Mail Windows Mail Hangs

May 14, 2010

For the last couple of weeks when I receive mail with attached pdf files, if I try to move or delete the mail Windows Mail hangs. Sometime it recovers but otherwise I need to kill it. I can open the attachment by clicking on the paper clip etc and everything seems fine so I don't think it's a security thing.

Windows Mail Hangs The System

Mar 23, 2008

When I start Windows Mail, it often hangs the whole system for a minute or so. Even Ctrl-Shft-Esc won't work to help me see what's going on. Finally, everything jumps back into action! I tracked down a log entry that says "A request to write to the file "C:Users...AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows MailBackup empWindowsMail.MSMessageStore" at offset 0 (0x0000000000000000) for 2097152 (0x00200000) bytes succeeded, but took an abnormally long time (61 seconds) to be serviced by the OS. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem." A hardware problem seems unlikely, as everything else works fine....and I'd need a bit more information to go back to my 'hardware vendor' anyway!

Windows 7....and Windows Mail Still Be Running

Oct 17, 2009

I will be doing an InPlace Vista to Windows7 Upgrade. Currently using Windows Mail which is part of Vista. After the Upgrade to Windows7, and since I assume Vista will be replaced by Windows 7, will Windows Mail still be running? Will it run under Windows7? Or, will Windows Mail no longer be an appll that will be present on my PC and I will need to Install Windows LIVE Mail?

Download Cannot Be Completed While Windows Mail Is Running

May 8, 2008

she is trying to download Trend PC-cillin virus control program. she has only until May 11 to get it done or she will lose her $49.95. she keeps getting a message that the download cannot be completed while Windows Mail is running. We have everything we can think of; called Trend, was referred to Microsoft and cannot find a thing there to help. How do we get Windows Mail to quit, or shutdown, so the download can be finished? She doesn't even use Windows mail and cannot even find the listing for it on Programs, or in the Add/Delete list in the Control Panel.

Windows Mail Slow To Start

Sep 17, 2009

If I start Windows Mail right after I boot up my computer and the desk top is
first available, it takes 2-3 minutes for Windows Mail to start. I have
Norton 360 security.

If I wait a few minutes to click on Windows Mail it will start right away.

Windows Mail Is Mental (and Slow)

May 30, 2008

1) Message rules has a mind of its own. I specify certain mail to be moved to certain folders as they come in - some rules work OK, but others the mail is placed in the wrong folder completely. Not sure yet if this is random or if there is a pattern to it.

2) it is very slow when I try to switch from one folder to another to view the new mail. I often go and browse the internet while waiting for the folder I have selected to finally 'appear'.

I'm also having issues with internet browsing, I tried switching to Mozilla (which has helped some) but still getting issues. Basically it will give me a '404 file not found' error on a website, even tho I the website IS there as I can check on my other computer. Other websites (like ebay) I can get the home page but any attempt to log in gives me "404 not found". I've now managed to get ebay working (either by Mozilla or also I added it to the trusted sites zone), but another website (again placed in my trusted zone) I cannot log in to and even tho I can now get the homepage, the page is just plain text links with no graphics or formatting.

Laptop Very Slow. Frequent Hangs.

Apr 6, 2008

I think my laptop has good enough specs but lately it seems unstable and very very slow. It started when frequent CHKDSK appears during start-up even I turned-off my laptop correctly. I kept on permitting it since I think it is really necessary to perform it though i thought something might be wrong. Anyway, last week while I was surfing the internet, my laptop just COMPLETELY hanged. I tried waiting for it to respond but it didnt. I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del but still didnt work. My laptop is essentially dead. And so i just pressed the power key to turn it off. When it turned on, it performed the CHKDSK and proceed to the loading window of Windos Vista.

(I actually do not know if it is really called as loading window but it appears normally right after turning the pc on. It is the one where a green bar is scrolling horizontally above the words Microsoft something something...). Normally, it takes 13 seconds to finish loading but this time, it just didnt stop loading. So i reboot the laptop and when it opened, STARTUP REPAIR window appeared. This time I thought something is really wrong.

The startup repair feature was able to correct the problem. I was able to use my laptop again. But I was still bothered and worried by the fact that something like that appeared and it is still VERY slow compared to its performance before. Its like I am using a pentium 1 laptop. Anyway, my laptop's preinstalled Norton Internet security is about to expire last week and so I decided to uninstall it already. I also heard that this software tends to slow down computers. I replace norton with Kaspersky Internet Security and it was able to detect flaws in my laptop. But this time, it really got slower. I downloaded CCleaner and System Mechanic Professional 7 trial version. They were able to further clean-up my pc but still it's slow....................

Windows Easy Transfer Hangs

Apr 9, 2008

I am trying to use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer documents and settings from a Window XP machine to a new Vista Professional machine. I am trying to do this over our network (SBS2003 if that's relevant). Windows Easy Transfer seems to be working fine to a point, but then it gets stuck on a particular file (on the XP machine) and doesn't continue. A flashing icon appears near the top right, but there are no options to skip a file or anything like that. I have tried deleting what I believed was the offending file, only to have WET stop on a different file. If there was a way to skip a problem file, that would be great, but the only time I see a prompt suggesting that I can do that is after I have already cancelled the transfer (on the XP machine).

I am running Windows Vista 32 bit edition and the last weeks my computer has slowed down to a snail’s pace, i have checked for viruses and it is clean. I have run CCleaner and to remove all the rubbish but it is still very slow.

I even have trouble booting from a Vista boot DVD, it take approx 5 minutes just to get the welcome screen up that’s before any OS has booted.

I have a CPU monitor on the sidebar and the CPU and the Memory usage is up and down from nothing to 100 % all the time.

And when i do get the computer to work it is very slow and i can only open one window at a time

Computer Running Too SLOW

May 11, 2008

i've been running my computer pretty much without problems. Recently I have noticed a real slow down in performance. I currently have Spybot S&D, and the purchased version of AVG installed. Thinking that perhaps one of these programs may be causing some kind of problem, I disabled both of them, but to no avail.

I run spyware searches and virus searches daily, which never really show up any thing of concern. I delete cookies etc on a daily basis too. My computer doesnt need defragged.
Could anyone give me any ideas as to what could be slowing it down so much.I tried to access my company site to process some work stuff and it took forever and a day to load what would normally be a couple of seconds. My computer is only about 8 months old, Intel Core Duo CPU, Memory 2047MB, 32 Bit O.S, with a Windows experience Index rating of 5.5.

FW Shut Off, Basic Running Really Slow

May 8, 2010

I've got a 6 year Compaq old laptop running Vista Basic, 1.5 GB of RAM, most WU's are current, MBAM, SAS, CA Security Suite with the FW shut off. Windows Firewall, Windows Defender. The system is very slow for file/program commands (Open, close, shutdowns, etc.). For instance, if I right click on Start and select `Explore' it takes 4-6 seconds for Explore to open up, and when it does open up a green status indication running across the path window just creeps along to the right very slowly. Is this some sort of an indexing problem?

Same thing with Task Manager. Internet browsing is ok speedwise, although when I run Brighthouse network's Road Runner Speed test, the results are poor (3500 kbps downloading). If I do this test on my Acer Desktop or laptop, the speed is over 9000 kbps). Running Firefox (but it's chewing up about 150 MB of process space)...........

Running Slow, Making Odd Noise.

Mar 23, 2008

I'm working with a Windows Vista HP Pavillion PC. No hardware has been modified. I'm not sure which version I have, I think I have all but the most recent update. ~I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem or not, but here goes. Anyway, about 4 months ago, my computer started acting odd. It would make an odd ticking, or clicking noise and start running slow. It sounds like an odd tick-tock noise. It seems to originate in the front of the computer, lower left side. Theres about a .5 second delay between the tick and tock noise. It keeps making that noise about every 3 seconds. It will seemingly stop and start doing this at random.

The slow downs are always associated with the tick-tock noise. I found out that when it's doing that, the computer starts functioning worse in general. Instead of running at normal CPU capacity, it limits itself to about 15% of it's power. Nothing huge is running in the background to suck up it's power. It just goes into "dumb mode". When this happened 4 months ago, I did a full system restore and that fixed it. Now it's happening again. I've already done a system restore. However, it doesn't want to boot up now. It's stuck on a please wait screen. So, has anyone suffered through this problem

Vista Software Pretty Slow Running

Mar 23, 2008

Vista is good looking software, but pretty slow. Altough my computer has no problems running it, because there's WAY enough power to do that. BUT, some serious issues have come up. And the most worst and annoying thing is the lag in games, internet etc. There's this lagspike that comes every 10 to 60 seconds. When youre playing a game that needs connection to internet example Guild Wars, it's annoying. There's no way you can play the game properly. First this lag wasn't so bad, but it has come to a point where the whole game disconnects from the server because lag is too long. This problem is experienced by many people and they are as annoyid as I am. More specificly the problem is experienced with wlan connections. I hope Microsoft quickly fixes this major problem.

Slow Boot Time Computer Running Ultimate X64

Mar 28, 2009

I've recently put together a new computer using these parts: I've updated to Vista Ultimate SP1, run multiple disk clean ups, defrags, use CCleaner, clean the registry, defrag the registry, disabled services and have made tweaks according to the guide provided on this website and have minimal startup programs running but my boot times average around 2 minutes. For a new computer with new hardware, this seems unreasonable as many users report boot times between 30-60 seconds. What could be wrong with my computer? On the vista loading screen with the green bar, it goes through about 22 cycles.

Vista 64 Home Premium Running Slow, Volmgrx.sys Corrupt

Mar 10, 2009

Vista 64 home premium is suddenly very slow, too slow to the point of programs not even launching. When trying to start in safe mode with networking, got a "repair" notice and then it tried to do a repair, saying that the volmgrx.sys was corrupt. However, the repair reported that it failed. I tried a system restore, and after seeing the "system restore is initializing" for over 12 minutes, I hit the power switch. It will start up in normal mode, but the disk activity light almost never goes out and is on almost solidly. I tried to copy the volmgrx.sys from a sister machine (two were ordered at the same time from HP), and then found that even in safe mode with command prompt, the file was protected. Is there a another way to copy over that file, or is that a "custom-made" file during the first turn-on of Vista?

Windows 7: Windows Mail Versus Windows Live Mail

Oct 6, 2009

What, if any, inferences can be drawn from the fact that there are typically three times more posts about Windows Mail (WM) than Windows Live Mail (WLM). Could it be that:

(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?

(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?

(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?

My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it. I am cross-posting this to both newsgroups and suggest that replies go to WM as it has the larger following.

SP2 Crashed Not Running Windows

Aug 1, 2009

I installed vista sp2 yesterday and now my laptop won't start. it offers two options, start in repair mode or start normally. I have an 18 month old Toshiba Equiium running vista home P 32 bit. If I start normally, the microsoft logo comes up and then the screen blips blue momentarily then it goes off. If I run the repair, it scans for faults, then prompts to run a system restore. I take this option and then it takes many minutes to attempt repairs - ultimately ending with 'windows cannot repair..."

there is a log with lots of 0x0 type errors notices (which are meaningles to me) I can't even get to the point where I could elect to restore to last best save or whatever. I have all my docs backed up on a portable HD but I cannot get past this failed repair message.

Windows Calendar Can Not Running

Apr 22, 2008

I don't see a Calendar group. I have had several occasions when Windows Calendar did not pop up with appointments until a day or two had gone by and it then informs me that the appointment or whatever is x days overdue. Not very helpful obviously. My computer was on and logged in at least once on the days of the appointment. Another problem. Because of the afore-mentioned problem I put Windows Calendar in my Startup folder so I would be forced to see the calendar when I first log in. I have had a couple of crashes now apparently related to this. Once the calendar wouldn't close and the second time the computer froze after displaying the calendar; I was forced to do an unstructured shutdown; and this in turn generated raid 1 disk problems that took hours to be resolved.

Running SFC: Cannot Boot Up Into Windows

Sep 10, 2009

I like SFC alot and it has solved a lot of problems I have had in the past with my Vistax64 machine. Latest problem is windows won't boot, can't restore, can't repair, can't safe mode, can't go to last known good... If i try to run SFC at the command prompt, i get a message that I have a pending repair, and need to reboot. However, since I cannot boot up into windows, this remains always. Is there a way to work via the command prompt to stop this pending repair, so that I can try the SFC to resolve problems I am experiencing?
