Join To SBS 2008 And Evrything Locked
Mar 4, 2010I joined a vista laptop to a SBS 2008 domain & after logging on, I just get the spinning wheel next to the cursor & everything is pretty much locked up.

Can Not Join To Domain
Mar 8, 2010Why does it take so long for Vista to join a domain? I have a vista pro machine. Locally everything works fine local user signs on builds the desktop quickly. From the local profile I join a domain. It finds the domain quickly, then asks to reboot.. I reboot sign on as the admin of the domain.. Next step is to build the desktop for the user I'm signing on as.. It just sits on the welcome screen spinning. I do not experience this problem on XP machines joining this same domain. I've also tested it on a Windows 7 machine and did not experience this problem.. I can't figure out why it takes so long on Vista.. I actually never get to the point of building the desktop..I don't really see any hard drive activity either?

Mar 23, 2008I have a desktop computer currently running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise edition act as server and a couple of desktop computer running windows SP for my network. Recently I bought a wifi router and change all my wired LAN to wireless LAN. All of the wireless connection works fine accept when I use my notebook running windows vista home premium , was unable to join to the domain at my windows 2003. On my vista notebook, I try to goto the system properties but couldn't fine the network setting button that says joining a domain (like the button on windows XP). there's only a button available to rename the computer. my question is: how to join to my domain using vista home premium.

Jan 18, 2010I have a Vista Business and a Vista Ultimate laptop. I'm trying to join a Windows 2008 domain. It takes forever for both machines to join the domain. If I let it sit it eventually does maybe 40 minutes later. Then when I log off it takes about the same amount of time to log off? It seems like it eventually joins the domain but takes a VERY long time. I don't have this same issue with Windows XP machines..

I still cannot understand how stupid some vista fanboys like frank and others are about vista. Sep 4, 2009My gram asked me to fix her computer.... She let me little cousin try and fix it and he reset the password for whatever god forsaken reason. Now she is locked out.... I could install a second version of an os on her computer but she has almost no space left....
I have tried everything to get some sort of hint. The only thing left that i can do is reinstall everything and she said that is not an option because she has a ton of personal info on there.

Jun 25, 2009I had the surprise this morning of not being able to access my PC;When I booted it, before Windows starting I got the request to enter "system password", I had never came across before. The only password that is set up is mine for the user account but I can't even access it.I tried to enter my password but the system did not recognize it. I switched off and booted again to no avail untill it says seventh attempt.

Sep 7, 2009I got this with my office ultimate steal deal from Microsoft. First the deal, any one with and edu suffix email (valid) can get office ultimate 2007 for $59.95. Yes that part is true, I got it for the wife who is a teacher with and edu email address. Now my problem comes in with accounting 2008 that MS through into the deal for free. So I loaded it and love it. Here is the problem, every time I open my MS outlook which now has Business Contact Manager loaded into it, I get a pop up that wants me to back up my contact manager database. So I backed it up and the next time I open MS Outlook, same pop up asking the same thing. My only choice is a snooze tab which I can change and the max for that is 2 hours. It still pops up. Any body have a fix or work around for this?

Apr 14, 2008My taskbar is locked. I can't launch a quick launch item. If I minimise a window I can't get it back. I can't open any items in the systray. mI have been into control panel and unlocked and locked and unclocked the task bar to no avail.

Nov 29, 2009I've been working for days to speed up Vista performance, have been through all the usual performance tweak tutorials (appearance/performance, start-up apps, etc) and am frustrated... In general Vista is not too bad performance-wise, but is very slow to open Internet Explorer and to find the first web page (OK after that), and is verrry sloooow to bring up or close Visual Studio 2008. Intellisense and typing in a project is nearly unusably slow. I have to type a few characters, wait several seconds for intellisense to finally pop up, type a little more, wait again (and again and again.) This box is my new dev box and I'm going to drop it over a cliff rather than work with it the way it is (not! But the temptation is there...)
In googling around, I don't see a lot of other folks having similar issues so I'm assuming that there is a setup or config or software or services or 'some' type of issue that is specific to my machine that can very likely correct the issue and get me back on track. I don't know where to start however, and am seeking some advice on where to start. As stated, I've already disabled all the startups (start up menu, msconfig) that I can, I think, and have already played with the appearance settings, and have even tried raising the priority on visual studio to 'Real Time' via the task manager And yes, things are better than they were, but the slow response time for Intellisense and typing in VS08 is killing me
How Restore Locked Files?
Aug 8, 2008A client of mine has a Hewlett-Packard laptop with Vista Home Premium. A few days ago her husband used the computer for some web checking and did something to the computer. Neither one of them can figure out what he did, but now all her files seem to be locked or read-only. She can open a file or e-mail, but cannot edit. She was able to forward an e-mail to another computer and from that computer she could use the file. It would seem that something got pressed wrong on the keyboard and that has rendered the files uneditable. I'm new to Vista since I'm much more used to Windows XP, so I was wondering if anyone out there had any ideas as to what we can try in order to restore full use of her files.

Jan 16, 2009My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit, SP1. I purchased my desktop pproximately a year and a half a go and the default Defragmenter was set to once a week for both C: and D: and I have left it that way ever since.
However (and I am not too computer savvy, unfortunately), I have read that since D: in my Vista OS is merely a locked Recovery, it should never be defragged. Is this true, and for all the time I have been defragging it weekly, could this have hurt System recovery should I ever need to use it?
