View 7 RepliesI have a problem with my computer, and it won't let me run Ad-Aware. I already ran the system check to see it isn't a hardware problem. I have deleted all temp files, ran virus scans, etc., but the problem hasn't gone away. What's happening is that the computer is slowing down. If I click from one screen to another, some of its graphics will remain for a couple seconds (these seemed like indications to me of a bad processor, but apparently that's not the case.)
I know when I don't run Ad-Aware to remove multiple spyware software for a while, my computer slows down. But everytime I run Ad-Aware, it gets stuck (and not always on the same file.) I have already tried reinstalling Ad-Aware, but the problem remains.
Ad-aware said there is corrupt definition file and suggested to remove old def. file. But it did not show how.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm getting a pop-up during some (but not all) boot ups in the morning. It gives me the option of allowing it or cancelling it - cancelling means I don't know what the program is and don't want it to load. What the heck is going on? Is this mal-ware? Is it already on my computer? My mal-ware scans with Ad-Aware don't mention it. Nor do scans by Windows Defender. But it's spooky....

View 9 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft today released the Release Candidate build of Service Pack 2 (6002.16670.090130) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 to the public. You can grab the standalone installer package from the Microsoft Download Center for 32-bit five languages and 32-bit all languages, 64-bit five languages and 64-bit all languages, as well as Itanium five languages and Itanium all languages. If you have Vista in English, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish, download the five languages package, otherwise get the larger "all language" version. There is also a five language and an all language.iso image available, as well as a patch that will allow you to get it via Windows Update. While this is a public release, it is still a Release Candidate, and Microsoft is recommending that the average customer "wait until the final release prior to installing this service pack" and reminding testers that "a Service Pack is not a feature release—we are not looking for new feature suggestions, only SP2 regressions, crashes, and confirmation of fixes we've made will be considered for this milestone." View 9 Replies View RelatedI got this with my office ultimate steal deal from Microsoft. First the deal, any one with and edu suffix email (valid) can get office ultimate 2007 for $59.95. Yes that part is true, I got it for the wife who is a teacher with and edu email address. Now my problem comes in with accounting 2008 that MS through into the deal for free. So I loaded it and love it. Here is the problem, every time I open my MS outlook which now has Business Contact Manager loaded into it, I get a pop up that wants me to back up my contact manager database. So I backed it up and the next time I open MS Outlook, same pop up asking the same thing. My only choice is a snooze tab which I can change and the max for that is 2 hours. It still pops up. Any body have a fix or work around for this?

View 8 Replies View RelatedA few days ago, the Antivirus 2008 pop-up appeared on my friend's new computer. It stated that he had 41 infections. HIs access to the internet was blocked, as well. In order to remove them, he had to pay for the service. After a bit of research, I discovered that it was a scam and attempted to remove it from his computer, via standard means (control panel, programs and features, uninstall). It appeared that some files were removed, but some were left behind. Those that remained still indicated that he had 41 infections and blocked his access to the internet, by indicating that the websites posed a threat........
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been working for days to speed up Vista performance, have been through all the usual performance tweak tutorials (appearance/performance, start-up apps, etc) and am frustrated... In general Vista is not too bad performance-wise, but is very slow to open Internet Explorer and to find the first web page (OK after that), and is verrry sloooow to bring up or close Visual Studio 2008. Intellisense and typing in a project is nearly unusably slow. I have to type a few characters, wait several seconds for intellisense to finally pop up, type a little more, wait again (and again and again.) This box is my new dev box and I'm going to drop it over a cliff rather than work with it the way it is (not! But the temptation is there...)
In googling around, I don't see a lot of other folks having similar issues so I'm assuming that there is a setup or config or software or services or 'some' type of issue that is specific to my machine that can very likely correct the issue and get me back on track. I don't know where to start however, and am seeking some advice on where to start. As stated, I've already disabled all the startups (start up menu, msconfig) that I can, I think, and have already played with the appearance settings, and have even tried raising the priority on visual studio to 'Real Time' via the task manager And yes, things are better than they were, but the slow response time for Intellisense and typing in VS08 is killing me
Ive been using AVAST and it works great. And Free.

UPDATE: SP2 Beta Released
After installation of WindowsVistaSP2Beta-x86.exe, I've got a lettering on
the right lower corner of desktop just above the Notification Area: "Windows
Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build 6002"
My question is: How to remove this inscription?
Post in reply to: bobtrowell
Run Winver At Command Prompt And If You See The Following Next 2 The Build 6001 Number: V., Whereas V. = A 3 Digit Beta Build Number, Then You Are Running A Beta Version Of Windows Vista Service Pack One, Just FYI. If There Is No V. Next 2 The Build 6001, Then You Are Running Windows Vista SP1 RTM (RTM = Which Stands 4 Release To Manufacturing = Gold Or Final Release).
mu_windows_vista_sp2_beta_and_windows_server_2008_sp2_beta_symbols_x64_289911.iso file. I extracted it and i got like 5 files: ymbols.cab,advpack.dll,symbols.exe,symbols.inf,eula.txt
After that i ran symbols.exe and it create a symbols folder in C:WindowsSymbols with like 15 folders named "ACM,AX,CAB,etc." And after that nothing. I still see SP1 when i go in Vista properties! Any 1 know what's up with that ?
Can't download the new beta anymore. Does that mean it is coming out now?
