Apr 17, 2009I am having trouble with Vista Ultimate (32 bit SP1) and MS Streets & Trips 2008 (S&T). After this week’s automatic up to Vista, S&T will no longer run. Invoking S&T yields this error, Your registry settings for this application were not copied correctly. To correct these settings, run Setup again for this application from the location where you originally installed it.” I did this and that did not correct the problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled S&T and that did not correct the problem. I then turned off “User Account Control” and I can now run S&T. When I turned User Account Control back on the problem returned. Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can get S&T to run with User Account Control activated? Please note that ALL software on my computer is legitimate, legal and owned by me.

Jul 27, 2009The problem I've been having is that when I try to run a game in full screen mode the game will just minimize itself and no matter how many times i try to bring it up it just flashes a black screen and then returns to the desktop with the game still minimized. I believe I've found what causes this but I'm still not satisfied with my current solution. What I've found so far is that on my computer full screen games don't like to run in 32bit color mode. I've got an ati card and when I change the color setting in the catalyst control center to 16bit also disabling aero the games seem to run fine. What I'm trying to find out I guess:
A. am i fixing the root of the problem by doing this?
B. is there a way to have games incompatable with aero automatically adjust the color and aero settings when started then return the settings to normal on close?

I have gone back and fourth with apple and compaq to try and resolve the problem but i just keep getting the run around. I was told by the rep. at apple to call microsofts and ask them to update usb drive firmware so that the computer will be compatable with the ipod.

Sep 7, 2009I got this with my office ultimate steal deal from Microsoft. First the deal, any one with and edu suffix email (valid) can get office ultimate 2007 for $59.95. Yes that part is true, I got it for the wife who is a teacher with and edu email address. Now my problem comes in with accounting 2008 that MS through into the deal for free. So I loaded it and love it. Here is the problem, every time I open my MS outlook which now has Business Contact Manager loaded into it, I get a pop up that wants me to back up my contact manager database. So I backed it up and the next time I open MS Outlook, same pop up asking the same thing. My only choice is a snooze tab which I can change and the max for that is 2 hours. It still pops up. Any body have a fix or work around for this?

Nov 29, 2009I've been working for days to speed up Vista performance, have been through all the usual performance tweak tutorials (appearance/performance, start-up apps, etc) and am frustrated... In general Vista is not too bad performance-wise, but is very slow to open Internet Explorer and to find the first web page (OK after that), and is verrry sloooow to bring up or close Visual Studio 2008. Intellisense and typing in a project is nearly unusably slow. I have to type a few characters, wait several seconds for intellisense to finally pop up, type a little more, wait again (and again and again.) This box is my new dev box and I'm going to drop it over a cliff rather than work with it the way it is (not! But the temptation is there...)
In googling around, I don't see a lot of other folks having similar issues so I'm assuming that there is a setup or config or software or services or 'some' type of issue that is specific to my machine that can very likely correct the issue and get me back on track. I don't know where to start however, and am seeking some advice on where to start. As stated, I've already disabled all the startups (start up menu, msconfig) that I can, I think, and have already played with the appearance settings, and have even tried raising the priority on visual studio to 'Real Time' via the task manager And yes, things are better than they were, but the slow response time for Intellisense and typing in VS08 is killing me

Apr 12, 2008I use QuickBooks 2008, and Vista Home Premium. Whenever I access a customer in my QuickBooks database, I get a pop-up saying "Windows Mail can compact the message store. This may take up to a few minutes". If I don't click OK (which is a pain), I will get a "server busy" error from QuickBooks when I try to go into the next customer.

Apr 6, 2008after installing visual studio 2008, it takes 20-30 more seconds for the windows orb to come after the progress is shown at boot. A black screen with a busy cursor is shown for 20 seconds and then the orb comes. The Visual Studio 2008 is installed without the SQL express option.
