I am using Vista Home Premium with AVG Free anti Virus and NoAdware. I intend to delete AVG and Install Trend 2008 internet Security. Will it run along side Windows Defender or will i have to shut it down, If so how? Sorry i am not very technical,
My computer takes a long time to shut down and when i log back onto windows it always tells me that windows was shut down incorrectly due to an incompatibility with my version of windows caused by my Trend Micro PC-Cillin Security 14 program. It offers the suggestion to go to the Trend Micro website for updates, but there aren't any updates for it that have to do with vista integration. So I shut off my windows firewall in order to avoid firewall/virus software conflicts, but my computer is still having issues.
i'm having a problem where every approx third time i use outlook 2007 i get the following error after i quit it:
microsoft visual c++ runtime library error Runtime Error! Program C:prog... This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. please contact the the applications support team for more information.
event viewer shows that this is the anti spam toolbar as faulting application. i also get a uac requesting permision for same toolbar every time i quit. i have contacted trend micro support who have told me that this is a microsoft problem and i should contact them - i'm not convinced about this hence this post. when i disable uac neither problem occurs. i have vista hp 32 bit and have also another pc with windows 7 ultimate with exact same problem
Trend Micro came installed on my computer and then stopped working. I uninstalled it and have since been unable to reinstall. I have a backup disk as well as after contacting Trend Micro for assistance I have the PCC14 in a desktop folder. When I attempt to install I get welcome to the Setup Wizard and click next. I immediately get a window stating Setup Interrupted and have to click Finish to exist. I followed Trend Micro's instruction to make certain my previous Trend Micro program was totally removed.
I was doing a scan with Spybot Search & Destroy, while it was running there was a Hint of the Day appeared inside the Spybot window. ( See screenshot ). So, if I had one of those 3, I should ditch Spybot? P.S. I do NOT have anyone of those security programs. My question is merely curiosity. Any comment/insight?...........
I want to uninstall ati catalyst 9.2 so i can try ati catalyst 9.7 with sims 2 and see if it has compatibility issues like 9.3-9.6 had for me.ATI catalyst 9.2 was all i could get to work with sims 2 and i want to try 9.7 to see what happens.
When i selected the ati catalyst icon in control panel to uninstall an error message appeared about ati catalyst installation manager stopped working.I did get the screen for removing the ati software and pressed next, but nothing happened except the ati catalyst icon in the programs section of control panel disappeared without actually uninstalling the driver/catalyst software.
Also,i retried uninstalling by pressing setup.exe in c:/ati/support/9-2_vista64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_75977/setup.exe
all that happens is that catalyst install manager stopped working error messages pop up and also i get problems and solutions icon appear after each uninstall failure regarding "solve a problem with microsoft visual studio".It's about this....
FIX: An application that uses the Mfc80.dll module or the Mfc80u.dll module crashes after you install a product that updates the module version
I've no idea if there is any relation, but before getting the hotfix i want to know what alternatives i have in uninstalling ati catalyst 9.2.
Unfortunately I installed some freeware that was not compatible with Vista. Now I am not able to uninstall it. I select "uninstall" in the software, "allow" it and then I get a message: "NTVDM.exe has stopped working". I am not able to proceed with the uninstall procedure.
I 'partially' installed a Click'N'Design program on my Vista Home Premium before the computer 'hung' due to obvious incompatibility. Unable to uninstall it now with Control Panel's 'uninstall a program' which returns an error message 'unable to locate the Install.log file'. Windows Install Clean Up does not list this program (as I presume it wasn't installed using Windows Installer).
I am runningOS windows vista ultimate 32bit. When I go to programs and features to uninstall a program all that is displayed is organize and views. When I click on a program I never see the uninstall displayed. Is this normal! How can I uninstall programs if it does not display the uninstall feature.
I have tried to uninstall fonts as administrator (no one else uses my computer and I have an admin. acct) with the UAC both off on on. I need permission. Try again. and again and again? I particularly want to get rid of all the annoying fonts that begin with @ to get them to the top of the list in Wordperfect X3.
Vista states an installer is already running when attempting to uninstall any software. Error:"Another program is being installed. Please wait until that installation is complete, and then try installing this software again."Even while logged in as Admin, after reboot, turing off Anti-Virus, and checking the running processes for any msi or Windows Installer entries. At one point I disabled the Windows Installer service, rebooted the PC, and then started the service again just to get an application installed.
I have windows vista and it is not compaitble with most of the games I like to play. I went to compatabilty wizard and went through the process but I am still unable to open the game. I get a response that says "ths application can be launched with a relase version of Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003" I have Windows 98 that I would like to install so I can play this game. When trying to install Windows 98 it states that it is not compatible with Vista. Can I uninstall Vista to install Windows 98?
I think I may have a problem: I have installed the Vista beta service pack (6001). But I don't know how to uninstall it. I have gone to add/remove programs/view installed updates and it doesn't appear there. I definitely have it, because under My Computer it says: Windows Vista ™ Ultimate Service Pack 1, v668 On my desktop, on the bottom right hand corner, it says: Windows Vista ™ evaluation copy. Build 6001. In Windows Updates, it has an entry on 15/12/2007: Update for Windows Vista (KB937287) - Build 6001.17052 (x86). Status: successful. When I double click on it, the information panel says (among other things) it cannot be uninstalled. It has another entry, also 15/12/2007: Vista Service Pack 1 Release Candidate 1 - Bulid 6001.17052 (x86). Status: failed. I believe that I have to uninstall the beta service pack before I can load the full version when it is released. Also,
Recently installed a video converters (Stoik Video Converter). However, when I try uninstalling it, I receive the following message, "Setup.exe has stopped working". After I close the dialog window, I see a popup on the task bar that says Setup.exe was closed due to Data Execution Prevention. Kind of frustrating that I can't even uninstall the program. can you tell me a way to uninstall Call of Duty other than through putting in the disk and pressing UNINSTALL or in the 'All Programs'? Because it just won't uninstall there: I press install and the window simply closes and nothing else. I am asking this because I have found some patches on the Activision website (now I can get on it again) and I wan't to reinstall it...
I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.

I have a Sony desktop water cooled running a Pentium D 2.8 / Vista 32 Micro ATX and wanted to get the groups ideas on replacing the board / chip / memory with something that will beat the current Vista score of 4.7 for the CPU. Rest of components run at 5.9. No gaming at all I just want to be able to use my CAD and rendering programs much faster which are now using 100% CPU. Current PS is 385 watts. Planning to go to 64 bit with next CAD update.
I have a fresh install of Vista Business 64 bit. I installed the latest drivers for my soundblaster X-fi extreme gamer fatility pro. By default my microphone plays through my speakers. If I mute the microphone in my playback devices, it disables the whole microphone until I restart. I had this exact same problem when I tried Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Why is this happening. How can I fix it.
I have a Creative Zen Micro Mp3 player. It always worked fine with my old Laptop (windows XP) and it originally worked with this laptop (windows Vista). Then after my computer crash and I had to restore everything, it stopped syncing right with the computer. Every time I plug the USB cable in, it says the device is not connected. Now, another problem is that I have to update the firmware on my Mp3 player in order for it to work (So I can also put more music onto it). But in order to do that, I need it to connect.and before I forget: Yes, I tried changing USB cords and different USB ports.
I am having an issue with this device, here is what is happening. When i have this 'enabled' it takes my machine about 6-8 minutes to boot up, so I found that if I 'disable' the device everything runs as normal and the laptop boots up in seconds but then I cannot use the Micro SD slot as it is disabled.
I have a Hotmail account that I never use and for years not one single email, spam or otherwise has arrived. I sign up for Windows 7 and now the account is flooded with spam.
Somehow the 'uninstall' button disappeared for most programs on my Vista Home Premium box when I used Control Pannel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program. A few programs still have 'uninstall' button available - those have 'installed on' showing. The rest (80+% of all)don't have 'installed on' values showing and don't have 'uninstall' button.
I have tried a few times to download Java from Sun Micro-systems but each time it says it failed. Anywhere else i can get it? Also at the right hand side of my vista by the clock there is a place you can enlarge your web page. I have to put it on 150 each new web site i go to. Is there anyway it can be put on 150 always? I know about the ease of access center and set that one right.

I encountered some strange system behavior. I have to ask if there is such a thing as VISTA ANTIVIRUS 2008 and if there is does it look like this: .I haven't installed it and until today I have not seen it.
Microsoft today released the Release Candidate build of Service Pack 2 (6002.16670.090130) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 to the public. You can grab the standalone installer package from the Microsoft Download Center for 32-bit five languages and 32-bit all languages, 64-bit five languages and 64-bit all languages, as well as Itanium five languages and Itanium all languages. If you have Vista in English, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish, download the five languages package, otherwise get the larger "all language" version. There is also a five language and an all language.iso image available, as well as a patch that will allow you to get it via Windows Update. While this is a public release, it is still a Release Candidate, and Microsoft is recommending that the average customer "wait until the final release prior to installing this service pack" and reminding testers that "a Service Pack is not a feature release—we are not looking for new feature suggestions, only SP2 regressions, crashes, and confirmation of fixes we've made will be considered for this milestone."
