Vista states an installer is already running when attempting to uninstall any software. Error:"Another program is being installed. Please wait until that installation is complete, and then try installing this software again."Even while logged in as Admin, after reboot, turing off Anti-Virus, and checking the running processes for any msi or Windows Installer entries. At one point I disabled the Windows Installer service, rebooted the PC, and then started the service again just to get an application installed.
I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
I want to uninstall ati catalyst 9.2 so i can try ati catalyst 9.7 with sims 2 and see if it has compatibility issues like 9.3-9.6 had for me.ATI catalyst 9.2 was all i could get to work with sims 2 and i want to try 9.7 to see what happens.
When i selected the ati catalyst icon in control panel to uninstall an error message appeared about ati catalyst installation manager stopped working.I did get the screen for removing the ati software and pressed next, but nothing happened except the ati catalyst icon in the programs section of control panel disappeared without actually uninstalling the driver/catalyst software.
Also,i retried uninstalling by pressing setup.exe in c:/ati/support/9-2_vista64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_75977/setup.exe
all that happens is that catalyst install manager stopped working error messages pop up and also i get problems and solutions icon appear after each uninstall failure regarding "solve a problem with microsoft visual studio".It's about this....
FIX: An application that uses the Mfc80.dll module or the Mfc80u.dll module crashes after you install a product that updates the module version
I've no idea if there is any relation, but before getting the hotfix i want to know what alternatives i have in uninstalling ati catalyst 9.2.
Unfortunately I installed some freeware that was not compatible with Vista. Now I am not able to uninstall it. I select "uninstall" in the software, "allow" it and then I get a message: "NTVDM.exe has stopped working". I am not able to proceed with the uninstall procedure.
I 'partially' installed a Click'N'Design program on my Vista Home Premium before the computer 'hung' due to obvious incompatibility. Unable to uninstall it now with Control Panel's 'uninstall a program' which returns an error message 'unable to locate the Install.log file'. Windows Install Clean Up does not list this program (as I presume it wasn't installed using Windows Installer).
I am runningOS windows vista ultimate 32bit. When I go to programs and features to uninstall a program all that is displayed is organize and views. When I click on a program I never see the uninstall displayed. Is this normal! How can I uninstall programs if it does not display the uninstall feature.
I have tried to uninstall fonts as administrator (no one else uses my computer and I have an admin. acct) with the UAC both off on on. I need permission. Try again. and again and again? I particularly want to get rid of all the annoying fonts that begin with @ to get them to the top of the list in Wordperfect X3.
I have windows vista and it is not compaitble with most of the games I like to play. I went to compatabilty wizard and went through the process but I am still unable to open the game. I get a response that says "ths application can be launched with a relase version of Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003" I have Windows 98 that I would like to install so I can play this game. When trying to install Windows 98 it states that it is not compatible with Vista. Can I uninstall Vista to install Windows 98?

I think I may have a problem: I have installed the Vista beta service pack (6001). But I don't know how to uninstall it. I have gone to add/remove programs/view installed updates and it doesn't appear there. I definitely have it, because under My Computer it says: Windows Vista ™ Ultimate Service Pack 1, v668 On my desktop, on the bottom right hand corner, it says: Windows Vista ™ evaluation copy. Build 6001. In Windows Updates, it has an entry on 15/12/2007: Update for Windows Vista (KB937287) - Build 6001.17052 (x86). Status: successful. When I double click on it, the information panel says (among other things) it cannot be uninstalled. It has another entry, also 15/12/2007: Vista Service Pack 1 Release Candidate 1 - Bulid 6001.17052 (x86). Status: failed. I believe that I have to uninstall the beta service pack before I can load the full version when it is released. Also,
Recently installed a video converters (Stoik Video Converter). However, when I try uninstalling it, I receive the following message, "Setup.exe has stopped working". After I close the dialog window, I see a popup on the task bar that says Setup.exe was closed due to Data Execution Prevention. Kind of frustrating that I can't even uninstall the program. Looked across several forums and haven't found any answer to this type of question
I am using Window Vista. I am unable to uninstall Window Live Messenger (latest version). I go to control panel, under program, I saw those with window live xxx and i remove it but i cant uninstall/change window live essentials and i cant find the Window Live Messenger there. I exit the icon that appear at the bottom of the screen. I even remove it from the program. But after i restart the PC, Window Live Messenger appears again.
I'm running Vista Ultimate SP2 and for some time now I'm having significant trouble installing and uninstalling programs. Whenever I try to install or uninstall, the process starts and it either takes a very, very long time to complete (2 hours or more), or the process hangs and I get a message stating the installer is not responding. I think I have found at least part of the problem in that system restore is not operational. If I open the "system protection" tab, the system restore button is greyed out and there are no disks displayed to create restore points. My belief is that system restore is not creating a restore point when an install/uninstall is started and thus the process times out.
I am having problems with Live Mail. Very often it will not start. I want to uninstall it and re-install it but I don't know how to uninstall it.It is not listed in Programs and Features. I tried downloading windows live mail and installing it over the top of live mail but I get the message that it is already installed and it will not reinstall.
i uninstalled "Fable Lost Chapters" because it was using up space on my drive. So i uninstalled the game, half way through the uninstallation the PC lagged so i used task manager to close the uninstaller. My first mistake was right there, after when i tried to uninstall it, it said i had finished but everything was clearly still there.
So i read around the forums, and i used a force uninstaller which worked fine, except the "fable lost chapters" icon was still in the "uninstall or change program" windows, with no stats, (ie how big it is, last altered ect). Game was gone but the value was still there. So i fished around the regeditor hoping to find it, but no luck there. I have also tried using "C CLeaner" to delete the entry but it gives me this error message "Cannot delete MSI installer" no idea what that means.
I mistakenly downloaded MS Winter Fun Pack 2004 for XP on my Vista computer, I didn't see that it said for XP when I downloaded and installed it. Using the uninstall in Control panel, I tried to uninstall. I got back an error (1713) message that say's 'can't install'.
Is there any reason for me to install a program to the other program files, or is it there just to provide stability? Im trying to figure these 2 out, and really I would perfer to only have 1 program files, just so I dont get them confused. Is there any way to have every program I install go directly to (86), and eventually just uninstall and delete everything in the original program files?
I have Windows HP with Vista Sp1 installed on my Black Viper tweaked pc and am very satisfied with its performance ; however I wish to install Win Vista SP2 and have run into major roadblocks. I have read through many suggestions on this topic but still no joy after a month or more of trying. Initially, the download would start, then stop after 99% was installed and revert back. Now when trying to install, I get a message that SP1 is not installed and I must install it first . SP1 is installed but I tried to reinstall it to no avail.
When trying to reinstall SP1 I get a message that SP1 is already installed, then the reinstallation stops.! Yet, my attempts to install SP2 tell me I must first install SP1. I have tried the SFC / SCANNOW and chkdsk /r repairs to no avail . I have also tried repairing my system with the Microsoft OEM HP installation disk but the repair does not address my issues. I do not wish to reinstall Vista from scratch since my system is working very nicely except for this glitch. I am chasing my tail and need some help with this problem.
I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop that has repeatedly failed to install the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 since August 2008. I have installed KB947821-v4,v5,and v6 x86 updates to resolve this issue, but the sp1 update continues to fail. I have been on the phone with Microsoft for three days. I allowed them remote access to my laptop; they disabled firewalls, and virus and spyware protection, blocked startup programs, and they have had no luck either. I even tried to update in safe mode, but was unable to do so as well. I loathe Vista, and would like to use my upgrade to Windows 7 disc, but of course, the Windows 7 advisor tells me I cannot upgrade without the mythical and elusive Vista SP1 installed.
can you tell me a way to uninstall Call of Duty other than through putting in the disk and pressing UNINSTALL or in the 'All Programs'? Because it just won't uninstall there: I press install and the window simply closes and nothing else. I am asking this because I have found some patches on the Activision website (now I can get on it again) and I wan't to reinstall it...
all of a sudden, I can't install apps. virus scan done, no problems. B4 this error I was getting " unable to access temp " or something like that I wish I copied it gave full permission to my user folder did click " run as admin "
I have Vista Home Premium 64 Bit SP2 and cannot install iTunes.
Today I downloaded the newest version from Apple's web site. Installation proceeds normally for awhile then I get the error below (it appears in box labeled " iTunes + QuickTime".
Could not open key: UNKNOWNComponentsDA42BV89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE87E577B2224C654E801A9E52375DB49. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
I navigated to the key (substituting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInstallerUserDataS-1-5-18 for UNKNOWN above) and found 3 instances of the key. 1 had data, 2 were empty. I deleted the 2 empty iterations. I had read about running regedit as an administrator and trying to change the permissions so that the owner was "adminstrators" instead of "system" but was unable to change the ownership (maybe because I have not uninstalled the older version of QuickTime that I used to get things working). Anyway I would like to install the 64 bit version of iTunes now but need to get past this problem. Additional info: I noticed that iTunes 64 bit selected as the install directory C:Program Files (x86) instead of C:Program Files. I have tried installing in each of these directories with the same results.
My system state is now that everything with iTunes in uninstalled with the exception of QuickTime 7.3.1 which I use to run a program that I use often.
I am experiencing a whole deal of difficulty running a clean install of vista ultimate x64.
Now upon install it seems to boot fine and get into the initial install setup of keyboard type (US etc...) and the selection of the OS, I select my HDD to install vista on and the installation goes away copying files and extracting files ... then upon the reboot to setup the rest of windows this is where it all goes terribly wrong, i have had several different errors and BSODs examples are below:
Now i have researched all the errors i have had show up and can define nothing in common with them all, I have removed the X-FI creative sound card, wireless kbd and mouse and gone back to basics, i have checked all my hardware and it IS compatible with x64 but still no luck.
i can get no replication of the error it just goes mental on the initial reboot after installing windows, and then reboots over and over, sometimes it gets further and gets back into windows but then i just get told the pc rebooted unexpectedly or the install was interupted to reboot and reinstall, i have tried to repair the half install but still no resolve (the even weirder thing was i tested vista ultimate x86 (32-bit) and all installs fine.
Once I put the CD in the 'Setup' comes on, I press Run, and then click Continue as it needs permission to open the CD..... and that's it. The programme will never open or show an option to install. If I right click onto the icon and click open or install nothing still happens. This is for all CD's that this happens to.
For some unknown reason I cannot install this security update: KB958644 for Vista. I tried to run the program & download it to run later & none of these options have worked.
I have been unable to install Vista's SP2. Otherwise, the system runs fine and all previous updates have been installed. Will the system be lacking something if I just continue with normal updates?
I have sahara computer and unable to install vista or xp on system , to reinstall os it takes more an hr and also while formating it give error mess like files are misiing and after format it gives the error mess NTLDR misiing or corrupt , also tired to debug and try os nogo .

I have tried to install in safe mode but no luck,it seems all the other updates are all ok just these 2 giving me trouble.
I am running Vista x64. My computer is a bit over a year old and all of a sudden as of a few weeks ago I am unable to install any programs or install any updates. Never had any problems before. I am not sure why this is happening but I don't have any viruses, that I know of. A virus scan is clear. When I try to update I get an error code of 80200053
