i keep getting windows logoed antivirus 2008 saying ive got 40+ infections-viruses trojans etc , and i should eliminate them by se nding 50$ --but when i check my norton i have no infections --its beckoming a pain--anyone else getting this and-or how can i stop it?
1. Avira AntiVir Personal - This antivirus application can do wonders in removing viruses and protecting your computer. It has heuristic detection which stands out amongst free antivirus packages and from my personal experience it works well with Windows Vista. Oh and did I mention it doesn't eat up much resources? (Scan once a day)
2. Malware Bytes AntiMalware - This baby is free, reliable and updated every 10 minutes, well maybe not 10 minutes but it is updated at least more than twice a day from my experience. This supplements Avira by removing items that are not detected by Avira. Now, no trojan, virus worm or whatever malicious software will ever cause great damage to your system (Scan once every three days)
3. Last but not least, Windows' default firewall will do the trick. Let's face it, we don't want anything complicated controlling our internet traffic. I mean most of us these days are behind a router which has a built in firewall already. I honestly even didn't run my firewall with xp and was fine with it
I encountered some strange system behavior. I have to ask if there is such a thing as VISTA ANTIVIRUS 2008 and if there is does it look like this: .I haven't installed it and until today I have not seen it.
Is this an actual microsoft product? I keep getting this message on the computer saying I need to downloan Antivirus 2008 and that it has found many viruses on my PC. When I looked up the file location it comes up in C:usersAppDataRoamongMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu It is causing problems on the PC and looks like it just was created a few days ago. I can't get into e-mail because it says there is a threat and won't let me continue. I tried to delete the file but I couln't find it when I went into my computer. There was no App Data file that I could see. I have Norton antivirus installed and I ran a scan on the file but got nothing. I want to get rid of this but don't knwo how.
Its called Antivirus xp 2008 This thing just jumped on my computer and I can't uninstall it. I am runnind Comodo firewall and it was asking me about allowing a program and I might have allowed it on. It appears to have the windows logo on it but that doesn't mean much.
A few days ago, the Antivirus 2008 pop-up appeared on my friend's new computer. It stated that he had 41 infections. HIs access to the internet was blocked, as well. In order to remove them, he had to pay for the service. After a bit of research, I discovered that it was a scam and attempted to remove it from his computer, via standard means (control panel, programs and features, uninstall). It appeared that some files were removed, but some were left behind. Those that remained still indicated that he had 41 infections and blocked his access to the internet, by indicating that the websites posed a threat........
I tried to uninstall Antivirus 2008 on my computer. I tried nearly everthing, but nothing seems to work. I am not even sure how it got on my computer. It is stopping me from going online, and says i have tons of viruses. I don't. I already have a virus protection program (McAfee from AOL). How do I uninstall it completely
No infections of any kind can be found on this PC, yet MSMail, MozillaFF and IE7 lock up constantly. How can this be fixed short of a reformat and reinstall of the OS? Vista has been as unstable as W98 for us. Is there any way to get it as stable as XP? Does anyone know what causes these constant W98 type freezes so many of us are enduring with Vista?
One of the computers in our house has contracted a serious illness. We have tried NOD32, Kaspersky, Spyware Doctor, Bitdefender. Spyware Doctor found approx 15 Trojans, several backdoors and other miscellaneous junk. Unfortunately to get rid of them, you must pay 40 dollars!
What can I try to get rid of them oh mighty Security Team??
3. Avira AntiVir Personal: Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus
Please post if there are anymore free anti-virus editions. For #5 (Comodo Internet Security Suite), there is a bug. If you click the link, it will go to Comodo Anti-Virus, you can use Anti-Virus. If you want Internet Security, click it on the left side panel.
I just picked up a Trojan somewhere. Window's Defender removed it. Now I'm wondering what I did wrong. A week or so ago, I got a pop-up claiming that I had no virus protection and saying that "they" were going to do a scan. I DO have virus protection (McAfee), so I knew this wasn't legit. I had a hard time shutting it down, but I did. I did three scans in Safe mode (McAfee, Defender and Super AntiSpyware Free) and found nothing. I am wondering if this Trojan came from that and just wasn't detected until now. If not, could it have come from an Email attachment? My friends are always sending me forwarded things which I enjoy. I do have email scanning enabled, and only open ones that say "No unsafe attachments detected". Is it okay to open these forwarded items, or should I not? I have Window's Vista Home Premium.
I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit, and the latest Mcafee antivirus. I got hit with a trojan virus. Now both Internet Explorer 8 and mozilla 3.1.1 will no longer work. Firefox will no longer load at all. IE8 will load 2 copies and both freeze up before brining up my webpage.=
I am running Windows Home Premimum 64 bit. I started having numerous problems a couple of weeks ago, including: Screen resolution was changed, Clear Type and User Account Control were disabled, computer would stop responding temporarily of lock up completely, blue screen at boot up or computer would boot to recovery console, monitor would be on at boot up but would not come out of sleep mode. Finally last night the key board and mouse (both wired) stopped working. I changed the mouse and keyboard to ones that used usb connectors and was able to boot up again, and this keyboard and mouse work, but still having performance issues (hanging, 3D screen saver runs jerky. I tried to run Trend Micro Housecall but could not get to run. I tried to update the Nvidia drivers several times and my computer would shut down before the installtion was completed everytime. I would get a blue screen with the notice that the computer had been shut down to protect it from damage. Norton 360 found nothing. I have since uninstalled Norton. Ran AVG, nothing.
I'm running Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit with Service Pack 1 and all other updates (as far as I can tell). that is, my Avast! Anti-Virus has classified my kernel32.dll and wsock32.dll files as trojans and locked them in the vault. I approved the transfer a long time ago and only recently realized my mistake. When I attempted to restore the files, however, Avast! says that it was able to complete the action "with errors" (the error being that it couldn't move the files).
However, in addition, I think I am missing other .DLL files, such as the Wireless Extensibility Module. I've already tried re-installing the WLAN driver, updating the driver, using alternate Wireless management software, and doing a system restore. Yet the problem persists. I've even tried doing a complete system restore from boot-up, but it says that none exist.
Another problem is that various other .exe files in the /System32 folder won't execute (I am assuming this is because they are missing associated .DLLs). I have all important documents backed up, so it wouldn't be a problem to a total system restore, but, like I said, I can't.
I have just purchased a new high capacity hard drive that I wish to install in my PC. I think this question has been asked before but all seem to want to copy their existing drive onto the new drive. I just want to start brand new fresh and clean. Dont want to transfer anything. I think I may have hidden virii or trojans in my old drive that I just want to be shed of.
how do I ensure that when I install the new drive it will be designated as c: I also have a d: drive that I use for music and data storage. Should I unplug the d drive while installing the new drive? I intend to install Vista Ultimate on the new drive. Also, microsoft authenticate this new installation of Vista given that it is on a brand new drive? I assume microsoft does some hardware checking to ensure any reinstallation is on the same and not a completely different computer.
basically my computer keeps freezing every now and then and a transparent screen comes up and at the top left of screen it says (not responding). I read somewhere it happens because of two anti-virus programmes on the computer? Can anyone shed any truth on this., I actually read it on the microsoft problems and answers page somewhere. If so - I have Windows Defender and AVG antivirus. I wondered which i should get rid off.?
My friend has a Hewlett Packard desktop computer that is approximately 3 years old. She is running Windows XP. All she has is the repair installation disk. She let one of her teenage grandsons get on her computer this past weekend and now she has 2 viruses that her security program says can't be removed. She originally had 3 viruses but the one that was located in the registry seems to be gone. The other two are both located in CSIDL_SYSTEMuac*.dll. She chose to quarantine the files, but every time she scans it picks them up again. She is using SecureIt which is provided through our ISP. She can boot her computer but she can not get online. We live in a rural community and the nearest computer repair shop is 100 miles away. Based on everything she's described to me I think her best bet is a reinstall of the OS. I'm asking someone to help me help her. Would a repair installation get rid of these viruses?
So a few minuets ago firefox crashed and this window 'Vista security Tool" Came up telling me i had trojans key loggers etc etc. I couldn't recall ever having a program by that name on my comp so I google it and yup it's malware. I don't know how to get rid of it the instructions I found didn't make sense after the command>notpad>paste this text part. Please can anyone explain to me (like I'm two) how to remove this? Also can anyone tell me how 'dangerous' this program is and why it's bugging me?
I have learnt that Vista has been build on the Framework, therefore, no thread leaves an application domain to enter another application domain. So, isn't it what a virus does?, then how is it possible that a Virus can infest Vista?,
I just have to ask this, since I think I've read somewhere that 64-bit windows is immune to viruses. Is this true? I mean also I read that this is the reason why Macintoshes haven't been plagued by this through the years (and that the Mac file system was somewhere between 32 and 64 bit) Anyone with lots of knowledge on the field?
I recently put together a new Vista Ult. box. Unfortunately soon after it got infected with a strain of Vundo, which I think I've erraticated, but somehow the machine still seems compramised. I can FTP, Email, Telnet with no problems, but once I open a web browser the wait for pages to load is painful. I have ClamWin as my main anti-virus software - I"ve scanned in SAFE MODE memory and all partitions And I've ran all these programs in SAFE MODE numerous times to no avail Spybot S&D Ad-aware 2007 Free Super Anti-spyware Windows Defender Malicious Software Removal HijackThis (nothing of concern comes up) Replaced Hosts file
Soon after I run these programs web browsing is zippy for a little bit, but then strarts crawling. Images or ads won't load and then pages time out. I'm not sure what else I can check to see what is going on. Other machines on same network work fine.
A few months ago, I had that lovely virus called Antivirus 2010. It got so bad that eventually, whenever I turned my Intel Pentium laptop on, the screen would just be black and there would be nothing except the virus window popping up with all the 'viruses' I had on my computer. Of course, a few other programs stopped running normally. The dock and widgets were gone. I had to create associations, which I never succeeded at, and this was all becoming way too frustrating. But I got by...
Last night, I decided to connect my HDMI cord to the laptop and watch a few episodes of Lost with my friends. Now, the HDMI button ('F8') wasn't working properly after my little mishap a few months earlier. When I pressed it, the usual, nice little pictures of different laptop-tv settings did not appear. Instead, I tried FN+ALT+F8. This seemed to work. But after we finished, I couldn't get the screen to return to normal again. It's all fuzzy and big, as if I was still connected to the tv.
** I tried personlization, and fizing screen resolution and stuff. It made things a little better, but the screen STILL isn't the same. Funny thing though. When I use print screen, the screen looks NORMAL. This morning, I rebooted my laptop. (Probably the stupidest thing I've ever done) I thought everything would be back to normal, but the screen is still the same, the nice little extras about Vista I was missing before have not returned, and my internet connection is gone.
I am using vista home premium with a 64-bit operating system. I have Avast free antivirus installed. I started getting messages from Vista Defender that my computer was being attacked by viruses, spyware and trojan horses. When I clicked "remove all" they wanted me to buy something. I restarted my computer and I am no longer getting the vista defender warnings, but I can't access several programs like windows media player, yahoo messenger etc.
Also, the icons for these programs disappeared from my task bar. When I try to launch these programs from the start menu I get a message that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". I'm the only one that uses this computer.
Microsoft today released the Release Candidate build of Service Pack 2 (6002.16670.090130) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 to the public. You can grab the standalone installer package from the Microsoft Download Center for 32-bit five languages and 32-bit all languages, 64-bit five languages and 64-bit all languages, as well as Itanium five languages and Itanium all languages. If you have Vista in English, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish, download the five languages package, otherwise get the larger "all language" version. There is also a five language and an all language.iso image available, as well as a patch that will allow you to get it via Windows Update. While this is a public release, it is still a Release Candidate, and Microsoft is recommending that the average customer "wait until the final release prior to installing this service pack" and reminding testers that "a Service Pack is not a feature release—we are not looking for new feature suggestions, only SP2 regressions, crashes, and confirmation of fixes we've made will be considered for this milestone." I got this with my office ultimate steal deal from Microsoft. First the deal, any one with and edu suffix email (valid) can get office ultimate 2007 for $59.95. Yes that part is true, I got it for the wife who is a teacher with and edu email address. Now my problem comes in with accounting 2008 that MS through into the deal for free. So I loaded it and love it. Here is the problem, every time I open my MS outlook which now has Business Contact Manager loaded into it, I get a pop up that wants me to back up my contact manager database. So I backed it up and the next time I open MS Outlook, same pop up asking the same thing. My only choice is a snooze tab which I can change and the max for that is 2 hours. It still pops up. Any body have a fix or work around for this?
I need to update my Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 to the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008. I need to know which version... either x86 or x64. My operating system is Vista home premium - 64 bit. The computer is an Acer6920.
I joined a vista laptop to a SBS 2008 domain & after logging on, I just get the spinning wheel next to the cursor & everything is pretty much locked up.
I just updated Norton 2007 and installed Norton 2008, now Security Center notifies me that I don't have anti-virus protection, but norton appears to be operating correctly?
