I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit, and the latest Mcafee antivirus. I got hit with a trojan virus. Now both Internet Explorer 8 and mozilla 3.1.1 will no longer work. Firefox will no longer load at all. IE8 will load 2 copies and both freeze up before brining up my webpage.=

I've heard there are some compatibility issues with Firefox and 64bit windows.
Is there a patch out, a windows tweak or an alternate version of Firefox out to solve this issue?
Another application I'm having trouble installing is Flash CS4, It keeps preparing the install files to a temp folder and then tells me that it needs to close and to check the destination drives disk space/ write protection settings.
(note the destination drive has over 400gb left on it!)

View 9 Replies View Relatedi have so many problems with Windows Vista, i can't even tell you. i'm meeting with a friend soon to address many of them, but there's one i can't tolerate or figure out. i've looked everywhere, so as a last-ditch, i'm asking here.
Vista is crashing my browser, which happens to be Mozilla Firefox. however, from what i've read, it also crashes IE7, so it's an equal opportunity glitch. is there a patch i'm missing? it's getting worse & worse. it used to happen occasionally, & now it happens every time i browse.
So a few minuets ago firefox crashed and this window 'Vista security Tool" Came up telling me i had trojans key loggers etc etc. I couldn't recall ever having a program by that name on my comp so I google it and yup it's malware. I don't know how to get rid of it the instructions I found didn't make sense after the command>notpad>paste this text part. Please can anyone explain to me (like I'm two) how to remove this? Also can anyone tell me how 'dangerous' this program is and why it's bugging me?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Mozilla Firefox Internet Browser a short while ago and it was working fine. But then my Vista automatically updated and I think that was where the problem started. I think in the update it heightened the security on my computer, not necessarily a bad thing but annoying because every time I launch Firefox it has to ask my permission to continue.
I think this is because it is trying to access the internet and is not microsoft software. I have looked it up in windows help and have a slight suspicion that it might be to do with something called "user account control". It helps stop unauthorized changes to your computer. Is there any way to convince it that Firefox isn't harmful and make an exception for it?
I seem to have lost the link between IE7 & Media Player, for example when I click on a video type file where in most instances it would open Media Player automatically it doesn't now

Spyware Doctor found approx 15 Trojans, several backdoors and other miscellaneous junk. Unfortunately to get rid of them, you must pay 40 dollars!
What can I try to get rid of them oh mighty Security Team??
I just picked up a Trojan somewhere. Window's Defender removed it. Now I'm wondering what I did wrong. A week or so ago, I got a pop-up claiming that I had no virus protection and saying that "they" were going to do a scan. I DO have virus protection (McAfee), so I knew this wasn't legit. I had a hard time shutting it down, but I did. I did three scans in Safe mode (McAfee, Defender and Super AntiSpyware Free) and found nothing. I am wondering if this Trojan came from that and just wasn't detected until now. If not, could it have come from an Email attachment? My friends are always sending me forwarded things which I enjoy. I do have email scanning enabled, and only open ones that say "No unsafe attachments detected". Is it okay to open these forwarded items, or should I not? I have Window's Vista Home Premium.

I started having numerous problems a couple of weeks ago, including: Screen resolution was changed, Clear Type and User Account Control were disabled, computer would stop responding temporarily of lock up completely, blue screen at boot up or computer would boot to recovery console, monitor would be on at boot up but would not come out of sleep mode. Finally last night the key board and mouse (both wired) stopped working. I changed the mouse and keyboard to ones that used usb connectors and was able to boot up again, and this keyboard and mouse work, but still having performance issues (hanging, 3D screen saver runs jerky. I tried to run Trend Micro Housecall but could not get to run. I tried to update the Nvidia drivers several times and my computer would shut down before the installtion was completed everytime. I would get a blue screen with the notice that the computer had been shut down to protect it from damage. Norton 360 found nothing. I have since uninstalled Norton. Ran AVG, nothing.

i keep getting windows logoed antivirus 2008 saying ive got 40+ infections-viruses trojans etc , and i should eliminate them by se nding 50$ --but when i check my norton i have no infections --its beckoming a pain--anyone else getting this and-or how can i stop it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit with Service Pack 1 and all other updates (as far as I can tell). that is, my Avast! Anti-Virus has classified my kernel32.dll and wsock32.dll files as trojans and locked them in the vault. I approved the transfer a long time ago and only recently realized my mistake. When I attempted to restore the files, however, Avast! says that it was able to complete the action "with errors" (the error being that it couldn't move the files).
However, in addition, I think I am missing other .DLL files, such as the Wireless Extensibility Module. I've already tried re-installing the WLAN driver, updating the driver, using alternate Wireless management software, and doing a system restore. Yet the problem persists. I've even tried doing a complete system restore from boot-up, but it says that none exist.
Another problem is that various other .exe files in the /System32 folder won't execute (I am assuming this is because they are missing associated .DLLs). I have all important documents backed up, so it wouldn't be a problem to a total system restore, but, like I said, I can't.
I have just purchased a new high capacity hard drive that I wish to install in my PC. I think this question has been asked before but all seem to want to copy their existing drive onto the new drive. I just want to start brand new fresh and clean. Dont want to transfer anything. I think I may have hidden virii or trojans in my old drive that I just want to be shed of.
how do I ensure that when I install the new drive it will be designated as c: I also have a d: drive that I use for music and data storage. Should I unplug the d drive while installing the new drive? I intend to install Vista Ultimate on the new drive. Also, microsoft authenticate this new installation of Vista given that it is on a brand new drive? I assume microsoft does some hardware checking to ensure any reinstallation is on the same and not a completely different computer.

MozillaFF keeps locking up and Task Manager will only close on or two of them showing as running in the window, but not the last one. Why is Mozilla showing as running as many as 4 times in Task Manager? Since Mozilla isn't open on the desktop I can't close it that way.
So whats better, firefox 2 or 3.. the Official release of Firefox 3 has came right.. it's already been released?? How does it compare.. I'm sick of using Firefox 1.. I never got 2. and I don't wanna use IE.. so I was just hoping to hear from a few people and see what you all think.. Post comments please...

I will get a message saying that I'm in unsecure mode, and the way to fix it is to install a program from Microsoft (attached is a screenshot). However, even though it says that it's from Microsoft, if I double click it, it says it's from an unknown publisher.... what gives? And if I keep running the stupid AV and spyware bull, then why does this keep happening?

Yesterday my computer was running just fine, but now, all of the sudden, it seems like it doesnt want to cooperate.
Here's a small list of thumbnails to make telling my story a whole lot easier:
1) On startup - nothing appears out of the ordinary..
2) Starting firefox results in nothing but a blank page.
3) Closing firefox results in error.
4) Opening up Binary Newsreader = errors.
5) Closing Binary Newsreader = more errors.

View 4 Replies View Relatedok so i use vista home premium, have firefox installed. I cannot download anything using firefox or IE. whenever i do try to download the download window comes up and downloads all the way. I do not use desktop as the place where files are placed so it doesnt get cluttered, but it is in a folder on the desktop.
When it is done downloading there is nothing in the folder. It will be there while downloading ( and i can do anything with it), but when the download finishes the file dissapears and is unable to be found anywhere. It is not hidden or anything. I've done full advanced computer searches and the file cannot be found. I have AVG, but it is disabled.
I am in a few college classes and another problem that i am having is that when i try to take my homework off the site (usually in a .zip or .doc format), i have an error that comes up saying Cannot open C:UsersRyan'sAppdataLocalTempStudentDownload.zip (or .doc) this is a HUGE!!!problem as i cannot afford to run back and forth to the college everyday trying to get my homework done.
Every time an update comes out for FF 3.6, even though I have Firefox unchecked in the Update settings, it will ask me to update. Not just on startup, but just any old time. It's gettin' old fast!

So, I found someone to send me Firefox the next day (I couldn't keep IE open long enough to do anything, half the time it didn't even open before the crash msg came up.) Still FF crashes. I don't know what the problem is..or was, it seems to be doing ok right now, first time I've actually been able to keep my browser open long enough to do something..I'm afraid to close it in case it doesn't work again. Its late here so I'm gonna make this brief, my windows update keeps trying to install the same update over and over and over again. At this has been happening my firefox 2 has gone very unstable. I have never any problems with firefox till now. It is an update for xml core services (KB936181), take a look at the screen shot.
