View 9 RepliesI just got a new computer with Vista 64 (SP1 included) and want a good AV and AS program. When spending $900+ for a computer, I don't mind spending $40/year for good protection (less then the price of a Big Mac per month)?
From the reading I've done everyone has been recommending ESET NOD32, which seems like the best protection + the least amount of Vista compatibility issues. When I checked out the website I saw that ESET has an upgraded version out that includes AS software. From my knowledge, NOD32 is just AV and I would then have to find a good AS program too right? Where as ESET Smart Security includes NOD32 and AS features. Looking for feedback & suggestions. Most of the threads that come up when I search are people who want "free" software? I want "great" software and have learned that the two terms often don't come hand-in-hand; especially when dealing with Vista!

Its called Antivirus xp 2008 This thing just jumped on my computer and I can't uninstall it. I am runnind Comodo firewall and it was asking me about allowing a program and I might have allowed it on. It appears to have the windows logo on it but that doesn't mean much.

Just received an email from eset, i see smart security 4 is out now, afetr much discussion on the firewall part of the suite on these forums ill install version 4 and let you know how it goes

View 7 Replies View RelatedIs this an actual microsoft product? I keep getting this message on the computer saying I need to downloan Antivirus 2008 and that it has found many viruses on my PC. When I looked up the file location it comes up in C:usersAppDataRoamongMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu It is causing problems on the PC and looks like it just was created a few days ago. I can't get into e-mail because it says there is a threat and won't let me continue. I tried to delete the file but I couln't find it when I went into my computer. There was no App Data file that I could see. I have Norton antivirus installed and I ran a scan on the file but got nothing. I want to get rid of this but don't knwo how.

In order to remove them, he had to pay for the service. After a bit of research, I discovered that it was a scam and attempted to remove it from his computer, via standard means (control panel, programs and features, uninstall). It appeared that some files were removed, but some were left behind. Those that remained still indicated that he had 41 infections and blocked his access to the internet, by indicating that the websites posed a threat........

I had my copy of the upgrade disc for Windows Vista Home Premium and wanted to upgrade. Well now Windows is telling me that my Product ID has expired and when I try to re-enter the ID it says it is not valid, even though it is a legitimate copy of Windows Vista. I did have this installed on another computer but then reverted back to XP for other reasons. Is there any way to get my system registered without buying another product key?

Please post if there are anymore free anti-virus editions. For #5 (Comodo Internet Security Suite), there is a bug. If you click the link, it will go to Comodo Anti-Virus, you can use Anti-Virus. If you want Internet Security, click it on the left side panel.
Seen lots on this - have tried to follow advice and even uninstalled McAfee and recreated mail account from scratch on Windows Mail - still no luck - still get the windows security prompt. Cannot download or send any emails. V. frustrating - especially when going through the risk of unistalling protection (which came pre-installed).
Is there a published document from Microsoft on this problem? Some definitive, clear, step-by-step advice for those who simply want to transfer from XP to Vista wihtout these unexpected, business damaging issues.
I just updated Norton 2007 and installed Norton 2008, now Security Center notifies me that I don't have anti-virus protection, but norton appears to be operating correctly?

View 8 Replies View RelatedMcAfee Internet Security Suite 2008 won't let you register. Therfore unable to update virus definitions, and unable to schedule auto scan. This is the boxed retail version. Not the one downloaded from McAfee's website. When it tries to update I get messsage I get message that I need to register this software, I choose Ok. But a blank window pops up titled McAfee Security but window is blank where your suppose to enter your registration information. Just incase I'm unable to find replies in this newsgroup

If you have Vista in English, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish, download the five languages package, otherwise get the larger "all language" version. There is also a five language and an all language.iso image available, as well as a patch that will allow you to get it via Windows Update. View 4 Replies View Related*My laptop came with Vista Home Premium installed.* I downloaded a Flash-BIOS update as per advice of my HP Care Centre. After it was done installing my laptop shut off (as I was told it would do). When I turned it back on, I was prompted to enter a Product Activation Key. I entered the Windows Product Key as shown on the sticker on the base of the laptop. The message I received was "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation" For the record, YES, I am entering the code in properly.

In the hope that they are compatible, I installed Office 2000 and then installed (from the Microsoft site) updates SR-1a and SP-2. Then I downloaded SP3, but when I attempted to install it, I got the message "The expected version of the product was not found on your system." Is there some reason for this, or should I just try again? I looked for, but could not find, a newsgroup that deals with Office 2000 -- is there an alternative newsgroup that would be better for these questions?
