SP2 RC For And Server 2008 Goes Public

Mar 4, 2009

Microsoft today released the Release Candidate build of Service Pack 2 (6002.16670.090130) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 to the public. You can grab the standalone installer package from the Microsoft Download Center for 32-bit five languages and 32-bit all languages, 64-bit five languages and 64-bit all languages, as well as Itanium five languages and Itanium all languages. If you have Vista in English, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish, download the five languages package, otherwise get the larger "all language" version. There is also a five language and an all language.iso image available, as well as a patch that will allow you to get it via Windows Update. While this is a public release, it is still a Release Candidate, and Microsoft is recommending that the average customer "wait until the final release prior to installing this service pack" and reminding testers that "a Service Pack is not a feature release—we are not looking for new feature suggestions, only SP2 regressions, crashes, and confirmation of fixes we've made will be considered for this milestone." Cannot Connect To DNS Server

Oct 24, 2009

I only get this problem on two wireless networks, either the one at my home, or the one in my University house. I get intermittent internet, it cuts out, sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes an hour, and the only way to get it back is by resetting the router, and running a diagnose + repair from Network and Sharing Centre and then by Resetting the Wireless Router, which doesn't always fix the problem. Sometimes I get a "Windows cannot connect to DNS Server" error, and sometimes it just fixes itself.

Cant Connect To A NAS Server

May 26, 2009

i am having problems in resolving a standing issue: our building is split into two parts each with its own router. the routers given generic IP as follows

192.168.9.255 and 192.168.11.255

we have a NAS server running windows 2003 server hooked on to the router 192.168.11.255 - its IP is 192.168.11.21 ... all the systems hooked to the same router are able to 'see' the NAS server and transact with it. (vista, linux, os x - all of them)

however, on the other side, the windows vista systems connected to 192.168.9.255 do not see the NAS server. Linux systems on this subnet can again see as well as connect to it, so can os x systems. eventhough vista cannot see the server, ping works with the server fine from these vista systems too.

PC Not Connect To POP Server

Mar 23, 2008

I worked with my internet provider and they were unable to help me. Windows mail is not pinging the POP server. I can get my mail via the providers web-mail, but I can't download any into my mailbox. The SEND/RECEIVE mail button produces this error message, and the green line indicating the messages it is trying to download just stalls. If I click wait...again nothing and if I click STOP the error message I get indicates it is timing out.

Cannot Connect To A Server Via Http

Jul 17, 2008

I want to connect to a Team Foundation Server through HTTP. I am not in the network (local nor VPN) with the server I want to connect to. I use the public IP of the server. From my laptop with XP it can be reached easily - for example when I enter the http://serverIP:9200 in the Internet Explorer, the browser asks me for a password and if I fail to log it shows that the Access is denied. 9200 is a port number.

When I connect a laptop with Vista and do the same, a browser just informs that it cannot display the page. I can't also connect to the server via telnet. The behaviour is the same also when I turn off the firewall on Vista (on XP I do not need to turn off the firewall). What then can be blocking this connection?? Are there any security settings that I should check? There is no problem to connect to the Web server from the same network as this TFS.

Cannot Connect To 2003 Server

May 29, 2008

Hope this is the right newsgroup.

Have a weird situation. On my first Vista pc i cannot authenticate to a 2003
server. YET i can map drives, nslookup is fine, i can ping everything, and
XP pcs log on with no problem (and have been for years).

The actual error is that the DNS of the DC in the domain has failed. I don't
think this has anything to do with DNS based on what i said. Regardless, i
have deleted, reinstalled,,

Cannot Connect To Primary DNS Server.

Apr 12, 2010

My Linksys WRT54G has been giving me problems for the past 6 months and after some research, I see it happens alot on the Vista OS. I contacted ATT but they told me since it wasn't their router they would have to charge me $30 for 20 minutes. I can connect to the network, but it is "Local only" not "Local and Internet." The connection is excellent and it says I'm connected, but the internet still does not work. The wired connection works fine which is how I'm able to connect right now. This is my ipconfig when I'm trying to connect with wireless.

Cannot RDP Connect From To Server 2003

Feb 24, 2009

When I attempt to make an RDP connection from Vista to a remote machine running Windows Server 2003, it seems to partially connect. It displays a 'Log On To Windows Server' dialog window, but it is blank. the fields where I would normally type in my credentials are not displayed. After about a minute, I get the following message:, "Your Remote session has ended. The connection to the remote computer was lost, possiblly due to connectivity problems."

However, on other PCs running Windows XP, I can consistently RDP connect to this same remote machine which is running Windows Server 2003. Why is Windows Vista unable to make a RDP connection to Windows Server 2003? Is there something that needs to be configured differently on the Windows Server 2003 machine to allow Vista RDP connections? Also I can successfully make RDP connections from Vista to machines running Windows XP. It appears the problem is just when making a RDP connection from Vista to Server 2003

Would my username be my email address? What format do I use for the NNTP server? I tried microsoft.public.windows.vista.general, but it said it could not connect to the news server. Printer Server Connect Off

May 28, 2009

So I can connect to the network with no issues....but the rest of my computers are all either XP or Vista 32. My problem comes into my server...that is XP. I have my files and printer on this server, and I connect off of it thru the wireless network. I cant see my printer or the files on the server. The only other computer that shows in my network, besides the lynksys, is the other Vista computer in the office.....which currently does show the server and printer.

My old laptop crashed and I just got a new Toshiba, so this is how/why I have an issue. I checked and its setup as private, Im thinking the 64bit is my problem can anyone hopefully NOT confirm this. Im hoping there is something else that I am missing and its not the 64 bit...I hope to not be here too long as that means issues, but I will be watching the forums from a distance to chime in if I can add anything

Corporate Intranet Server Not Connect

Mar 23, 2008

I have two Vista laptops, that we are finally getting stable after many tweaks. My husband however *needs* a new laptop with XP on it as his corporate intranet server will *not* connect with anything else (yes, we and his whole IT department have tried). Those are getting very hard to find, obviously, and are very expensive when we do find one. I do have a retail copy of XP Pro available.

Local retailers are selling some inexpensive laptops that would work nicely if they didn't have Vista on them. So my questions basically are: is it worth it to buy a laptop which comes with a basic Vista OS, wipe it and do a clean install of XP Pro? I am not worried about voiding a warrantee in this case. Or if it works better, can my XP software be installed as a backwards "upgrade" over Vista Home? Just trying to work out the best route here.

Symptoms: When I open up Outlook, I get prompted for username/pwd (so far so good), but that's it! Either Outlook times out without ever opening up or I get error messages that Outlook can't connect to server. Additional Info: (i) accessing the exchange server via Outlook Web - no problem; (ii) accessing the exchange server via VPN - no problem; (iii) have tried accessing from other laptop also running Vista (same setup)same problem.

Ssh Tunnel Client Connect Server Unable

Mar 23, 2008

I'm having a problem with Vista's networking. A lot of my friends who still have XP are able to use remote desktop and tunneling services easily, where as I am unable to on my Vista machine. It's quite ironic cause I'd think Vista (newer than XP) would have better networking capabilities. But that aside, I've followed the instructions in order to install Tunneling on Vista (Since MS removed it from Vista) by going to programs and features and adding the telnet feature. This seemed to work somewhat, but now I'm trying to use SSH Tunnel Client to connect to a server and I'm unable to. Overall it seems Vista is locked up tight. Is there any information I can get in order to open up Vista in order to do what I want to do. I've looked at a lot of Q&A's, tutorials and how tos, but most of them explain very basic things. What steps do i need to take in order to connect to a server using SSH in Vista?
