Have a weird situation. On my first Vista pc i cannot authenticate to a 2003
server. YET i can map drives, nslookup is fine, i can ping everything, and
XP pcs log on with no problem (and have been for years).
The actual error is that the DNS of the DC in the domain has failed. I don't
think this has anything to do with DNS based on what i said. Regardless, i
have deleted, reinstalled,,
When I attempt to make an RDP connection from Vista to a remote machine running Windows Server 2003, it seems to partially connect. It displays a 'Log On To Windows Server' dialog window, but it is blank. the fields where I would normally type in my credentials are not displayed. After about a minute, I get the following message:, "Your Remote session has ended. The connection to the remote computer was lost, possiblly due to connectivity problems."
However, on other PCs running Windows XP, I can consistently RDP connect to this same remote machine which is running Windows Server 2003. Why is Windows Vista unable to make a RDP connection to Windows Server 2003? Is there something that needs to be configured differently on the Windows Server 2003 machine to allow Vista RDP connections? Also I can successfully make RDP connections from Vista to machines running Windows XP. It appears the problem is just when making a RDP connection from Vista to Server 2003
I'm currently trying to connect my laptop which has Vista Business 32-bit to my Poweredge T105 which is running Server 2003 RC2. I get this error when running Network ID:
"Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error occured: An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server thatcan resolve DNS names in the target domain."
The domain name I'm using is a live domain and worked fine when I connected my XP desktop to it. Not sure why it won't connect. Although it is on a different network (name) it can see the shared folder on the
I am running Vista Business, and am trying to setup faxing with Vista's built-in Windows Fax and Scan. I do not have a modem, and so I'm trying to connect to the fax on a Windows Server 2003 R2 server. This is a "standard" Server 2003, that is, it is *not* SBS (Small Business Server).
The server is a domain controller, but the Vista PC is not on the domain. However, both computers are on the same local network/subnet. On Vista I can map a drive that's on the server (providing the proper server credentials). I can even "Add new printer" to Vista by selecting network printer and entering the server address & shared fax name, then entering the proper server credentials. So this rules out any network issues, and at least mostly rules out authentication issues (since I'm able to connect to the server disk and printer resources if I provide a server administrator logon).
However, from Vista's "Windows Fax and Scan", when I try to create a fax account, it prompts me for the server name, and when I enter the server, it tells me that I don't have the appropriate permissions and to contact the fax administrator. This happens whether I enter \servername, \servernamefaxname, servername, faxname, \faxname. Also, I have made sure to run Windows Fax and Scan as an administrator, that is, right-click/run as administrator.
If I try to print to the fax printer that seemed to have been mapped successfully (that was mapped with "add printer" as described above), it basically takes me to the same step to add a fax account, at which point it tells me I don't have the appropriate permissions when I enter the server name. Note that when I "added" the printer, it prompted me for the credentials, and then successfully mapped the printer. Now in trying to use it to print (fax) something, it behaves as if I still need to create a fax account and tells me I have no permissions (and there is no option to enter a user/password).
My set-up is very simple yet I cannot connect to a device. I have a Router which has three connections via ethernet.
1. Vista Machine 2. XP Machine 3. Music Server (systemline)
The problem I have is that my Vista machine will not connect to the music server - I cannot see the shared folders. My XP machine connects to it no problem, e.g. if I enter the location (
"This profile was not built for this processor architecture. Please contact your administrator to get the appropriate profile for this architecture." I get that message when running my company's "sbspackage.exe" executable which should, in theory, create a VPN connection for me. Do they need to recompile this exe choosing some 64 bit option? Is this even possible in sbs 2003?
everytime i try and install windows server 2003 enterprise edition on vista. it gives me the error " setup cannot run in program compatibility mode". ive tried installing from the disk when booting but it wont work since i dont have hard disk drive every time i think i get anywhere i get the same error. is there a way to disablle compatibility mode cause even when i use it i stilll get errors.
I got a problem with a Server 2003 and computer with Vista Business 32bit. Situation: All user have a home folder on a Windows 2003 Server and I redirect the "My Documents" folder from Vista on this folder. Problem: When I look on the server the folder where the home folder are store, I see all folder for all user with the same name "Documents" and not the logon name from my user. Sample in the attached file. If I rename the folder "Documents" with something other all folder have after the same name again. All computer with Windows XP do not make this problem, the folder name stay with the user logon name.
How to run windows 2003 server 64bit: everytime i try and install windows server 2003 enterprise edition on vista through any vmware. How to run windows 2003 server 64bit: I am having OS vista home edition 32 bit. I want to run windows 2003 server 64bit edition through any VMware. is there any way?? it gives me the error " setup cannot run on 32 bit system". that is because Vista is 32 bit.
I have a brand new Dell laptop with Windows Vista Business. I've installed SP1 as well. I have a VPN setup to connect to various customer servers for support purposes. I can connect remotely to Windows Server 2003 but I cannot connect to Windows Server 2003 R2 servers from my Vista laptop. I can connect perfectly with my older XP Pro laptop.
I have connection problems to the 2003 R2 servers using the following software:...........
I'm not able to connect to shares on the domain servers. When I try to install printers only a partial sample of my printers are displayed. I can't attach to a printer manually, either. The Microsoft firewall is turned off.
I have a laptop running Vista ultimate. I want to create a dual boot with win2003 server so that I can install MOSS 2007 on it (studying for certification). Tried using the disk management utility in Vista to create partition for this and it doesn't let me shrink a partition in order to create a new partition for Win 2003. There are 60gb available for this new partition but when I go to 'shrink' I get a zero for available mb. I know there are some issues regarding the loader. Any advice in how to do this successfully? I dont want to lose any data on the vista O/S part of the box.
A Bug in Remote Desktop Connection of Windows Server 2003 R2. There are two servers. Both are running the "Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition, SP2" system. I login to the servers with "remote desktop connection" tool, with a thinkpad. Then someone took my cable away and when the battery run out, the thinkpad slept. When I restores the thinkpad, something is wrong with the two servers:
**** For oneserver: I can login, but for any window: (1) When I press 'b', the current window loses focus; (2) When I press 'd', the system turns to the desktop; (3) When I press 'e', "My computer" is opened with "System resource...........
I have a Windows 2003 R2 x64 (all current SPs and updates installed) and 3 Windows Vista machines (also al X64 versions). When trying to copy a (large - maybe 50MB +) file from the Windows 2003 Server to the Vista Machines (the Server Shared folder is mapped to a drive in Vista) - I will get an error like "There is a problem access I:igfile.txt - make sure you are connected to the Network and try again" Once in a while I will see "Error 0x8007003A" I can copy those files just fine from Windows 2003 to another Windows 2003 machine or Windows XP machines...
I only get this problem on two wireless networks, either the one at my home, or the one in my University house. I get intermittent internet, it cuts out, sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes an hour, and the only way to get it back is by resetting the router, and running a diagnose + repair from Network and Sharing Centre and then by Resetting the Wireless Router, which doesn't always fix the problem. Sometimes I get a "Windows cannot connect to DNS Server" error, and sometimes it just fixes itself.
At home I have a file server ( Its named Bigred)running windows xp pro. I am using simple file sharing on the network. Its not on a domain its on a workgroup. The only software I have running on it is tversity and utorrent. On my vista machine or any other computer, I cannot connect to \bigred through explorer, but if I add in a share name \bigredphotos it works just fine. Windows xp was just installed today with all updates.
i am having problems in resolving a standing issue: our building is split into two parts each with its own router. the routers given generic IP as follows
192.168.9.255 and 192.168.11.255
we have a NAS server running windows 2003 server hooked on to the router 192.168.11.255 - its IP is 192.168.11.21 ... all the systems hooked to the same router are able to 'see' the NAS server and transact with it. (vista, linux, os x - all of them)
however, on the other side, the windows vista systems connected to 192.168.9.255 do not see the NAS server. Linux systems on this subnet can again see as well as connect to it, so can os x systems. eventhough vista cannot see the server, ping works with the server fine from these vista systems too.
I too recently bought a Gateway MD2614u, I use a 3g modem, a huawei e 156 c to be pecific! I've had some browser problems, the last couple of days, except for today, but still! hen I go to network and sharing, view status, diagnose: Cannot connect to DNS server > 200.223.0.83
I worked with my internet provider and they were unable to help me. Windows mail is not pinging the POP server. I can get my mail via the providers web-mail, but I can't download any into my mailbox. The SEND/RECEIVE mail button produces this error message, and the green line indicating the messages it is trying to download just stalls. If I click wait...again nothing and if I click STOP the error message I get indicates it is timing out.
I want to connect to a Team Foundation Server through HTTP. I am not in the network (local nor VPN) with the server I want to connect to. I use the public IP of the server. From my laptop with XP it can be reached easily - for example when I enter the http://serverIP:9200 in the Internet Explorer, the browser asks me for a password and if I fail to log it shows that the Access is denied. 9200 is a port number.
When I connect a laptop with Vista and do the same, a browser just informs that it cannot display the page. I can't also connect to the server via telnet. The behaviour is the same also when I turn off the firewall on Vista (on XP I do not need to turn off the firewall). What then can be blocking this connection?? Are there any security settings that I should check? There is no problem to connect to the Web server from the same network as this TFS.
ok lets try again.......my newsreader windows mail just suddenly stopped working with "unable to connect to server"....i have deleted norton using their program - no change.....i have deleted my news accounts and set them up again - no change
this is bogus...for what i spent for freaking vista and a new computer to have something stupid like this to have happen.
My Linksys WRT54G has been giving me problems for the past 6 months and after some research, I see it happens alot on the Vista OS. I contacted ATT but they told me since it wasn't their router they would have to charge me $30 for 20 minutes. I can connect to the network, but it is "Local only" not "Local and Internet." The connection is excellent and it says I'm connected, but the internet still does not work. The wired connection works fine which is how I'm able to connect right now. This is my ipconfig when I'm trying to connect with wireless.
How do I set up Newsgator to get my Microsoft newsgroup stuff in Outlook 2007? I already have NewsGator plugin installed. It asks me for a server, username, and password. Would my username be my email address? What format do I use for the NNTP server? I tried microsoft.public.windows.vista.general, but it said it could not connect to the news server. "...I fail to understand why they feel the need to convince people who are happy with Vista that they are wrong. That is aside from the self-esteem issues they must have ;-)"
So I can connect to the network with no issues....but the rest of my computers are all either XP or Vista 32. My problem comes into my server...that is XP. I have my files and printer on this server, and I connect off of it thru the wireless network. I cant see my printer or the files on the server. The only other computer that shows in my network, besides the lynksys, is the other Vista computer in the office.....which currently does show the server and printer.
My old laptop crashed and I just got a new Toshiba, so this is how/why I have an issue. I checked and its setup as private, Im thinking the 64bit is my problem can anyone hopefully NOT confirm this. Im hoping there is something else that I am missing and its not the 64 bit...I hope to not be here too long as that means issues, but I will be watching the forums from a distance to chime in if I can add anything
I am considering purchasing a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home on it. I work at an office 2 days per week and will need to connect to their server. It is my understanding that Vista Home will not be able to connect to their server. SO....I would need to install my XP Pro onto the new computer. How hard is it to do this and is it not recommended? (I'd like to keep Vista on the laptop as well, possibly as a dual boot? Unless that would just cause more issues.)
Running Windows Vista,Windows Mail & Windows Live One Care. When I go to set up newsgroup account .I follow directions and get all the way up to where is says that I need to download list of avaible newsgroups. I then get the message that I cannot connect to server. Get the following details....
I need to reinstall Vista Ultimate 32 Im having problems like some games just dont want to connect to their server and both parties My isp and EA has sworn they have checked everything and no problems. So I just want to reinstall Vista I tried the Vista repair and surprise it finds nothing wrong. It looks like if you have problems with vista your just screwed totally. Just a rant of frustration in the last sentence.
I have two Vista laptops, that we are finally getting stable after many tweaks. My husband however *needs* a new laptop with XP on it as his corporate intranet server will *not* connect with anything else (yes, we and his whole IT department have tried). Those are getting very hard to find, obviously, and are very expensive when we do find one. I do have a retail copy of XP Pro available.
Local retailers are selling some inexpensive laptops that would work nicely if they didn't have Vista on them. So my questions basically are: is it worth it to buy a laptop which comes with a basic Vista OS, wipe it and do a clean install of XP Pro? I am not worried about voiding a warrantee in this case. Or if it works better, can my XP software be installed as a backwards "upgrade" over Vista Home? Just trying to work out the best route here.
Background: New Laptop with Vista Home Premium, MS Office 2007 installed and the office runs Exchange Server 2003 (fully patched as far as I know).Problem:Cannot connect to the exchange server using HTTP (had no poblems with old laptop running XP).Facts:(i) finding my mail box/username on the Exchange Server during the Mail setup process on my laptop - no problem; (ii) setting up the connection using HTTP via proxy settings - no problem; (iii) completeing the Mail setup - no problem. Symptoms: When I open up Outlook, I get prompted for username/pwd (so far so good), but that's it! Either Outlook times out without ever opening up or I get error messages that Outlook can't connect to server. Additional Info: (i) accessing the exchange server via Outlook Web - no problem; (ii) accessing the exchange server via VPN - no problem; (iii) have tried accessing from other laptop also running Vista (same setup)same problem.
I just purchased two new identical machines. I have a home LAN running W2k Server. (downgraded from a domain to a workgroup). One machine sees the server no problem. I can connect to drives and use the printer. One machine refuses to see the server. When I go Run and type in \ipaddress, it shows up. When I try to browse for it, it never shows up. Both machines on same LAN, same WORKGROUP. I've clicked everything I can find but the one machine just won't find the server. I'm baffled.
we have Vista 32 bit installed at my office. We use it for software testing with different O/S and browser configuration purposes only. But I am having a problem browsing internet using IE7. That is in my company whenever we launch any browser we go to one of our secure web server there we enter a useid and password then we get connected to internet. But IE7 is not laucnhing this secure web site. I am getting a message"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". However if I launch Mozilla then It prompts me to enter the userid, password(which is actually the company id , password given to all associates) then it authenticates us then takes us to the itnernet. Now after doing this step at Mozilla browser my IE7 works. that means In IE7 there is soemthing that is blocking us to go this website. Also when I type this url in IE7 by myself I am getting this error "Could not connect to eh secure Web server".
