(not Responding) -2 Anti-viruses?

Jul 1, 2008

basically my computer keeps freezing every now and then and a transparent screen comes up and at the top left of screen it says (not responding). I read somewhere it happens because of two anti-virus programmes on the computer? Can anyone shed any truth on this., I actually read it on the microsoft problems and answers page somewhere. If so - I have Windows Defender and AVG antivirus. I wondered which i should get rid off.?

Reinstall OS: Viruses Show Again

Sep 17, 2009

My friend has a Hewlett Packard desktop computer that is approximately 3 years old. She is running Windows XP. All she has is the repair installation disk. She let one of her teenage grandsons get on her computer this past weekend and now she has 2 viruses that her security program says can't be removed. She originally had 3 viruses but the one that was located in the registry seems to be gone. The other two are both located in CSIDL_SYSTEMuac*.dll. She chose to quarantine the files, but every time she scans it picks them up again. She is using SecureIt which is provided through our ISP. She can boot her computer but she can not get online. We live in a rural community and the nearest computer repair shop is 100 miles away. Based on everything she's described to me I think her best bet is a reinstall of the OS. I'm asking someone to help me help her. Would a repair installation get rid of these viruses?

64-bit File System Immune To Viruses?

May 26, 2008

I just have to ask this, since I think I've read somewhere that 64-bit windows is immune to viruses. Is this true? I mean also I read that this is the reason why Macintoshes haven't been plagued by this through the years (and that the Mac file system was somewhere between 32 and 64 bit) Anyone with lots of knowledge on the field?

No Viruses, But Web Browsing Is Insanely Slow

Jun 10, 2008

I recently put together a new Vista Ult. box. Unfortunately soon after it got infected with a strain of Vundo, which I think I've erraticated, but somehow the machine still seems compramised. I can FTP, Email, Telnet with no problems, but once I open a web browser the wait for pages to load is painful. I have ClamWin as my main anti-virus software - I"ve scanned in SAFE MODE memory and all partitions
And I've ran all these programs in SAFE MODE numerous times to no avail Spybot S&D
Ad-aware 2007 Free
Super Anti-spyware
Windows Defender
Malicious Software Removal
HijackThis (nothing of concern comes up)
Replaced Hosts file

Soon after I run these programs web browsing is zippy for a little bit, but then strarts crawling. Images or ads won't load and then pages time out. I'm not sure what else I can check to see what is going on. Other machines on same network work fine.

Window Popping Up With 'viruses' Programs Stopped Running

Mar 30, 2010

A few months ago, I had that lovely virus called Antivirus 2010. It got so bad that eventually, whenever I turned my Intel Pentium laptop on, the screen would just be black and there would be nothing except the virus window popping up with all the 'viruses' I had on my computer. Of course, a few other programs stopped running normally. The dock and widgets were gone. I had to create associations, which I never succeeded at, and this was all becoming way too frustrating. But I got by...

Last night, I decided to connect my HDMI cord to the laptop and watch a few episodes of Lost with my friends. Now, the HDMI button ('F8') wasn't working properly after my little mishap a few months earlier. When I pressed it, the usual, nice little pictures of different laptop-tv settings did not appear. Instead, I tried FN+ALT+F8. This seemed to work. But after we finished, I couldn't get the screen to return to normal again. It's all fuzzy and big, as if I was still connected to the tv.

** I tried personlization, and fizing screen resolution and stuff. It made things a little better, but the screen STILL isn't the same. Funny thing though. When I use print screen, the screen looks NORMAL. This morning, I rebooted my laptop. (Probably the stupidest thing I've ever done) I thought everything would be back to normal, but the screen is still the same, the nice little extras about Vista I was missing before have not returned, and my internet connection is gone.

Viruses, Spyware And Trojan Horses: No Longer Getting The Vista Defender Warnings

Mar 25, 2010

I am using vista home premium with a 64-bit operating system. I have Avast free antivirus installed. I started getting messages from Vista Defender that my computer was being attacked by viruses, spyware and trojan horses. When I clicked "remove all" they wanted me to buy something. I restarted my computer and I am no longer getting the vista defender warnings, but I can't access several programs like windows media player, yahoo messenger etc.

Also, the icons for these programs disappeared from my task bar. When I try to launch these programs from the start menu I get a message that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". I'm the only one that uses this computer.

Free Security Suite: Antivirus Application Can Do Wonders In Removing Viruses And Protecting Your Computer

Jun 26, 2009

1. Avira AntiVir Personal - This antivirus application can do wonders in removing viruses and protecting your computer. It has heuristic detection which stands out amongst free antivirus packages and from my personal experience it works well with Windows Vista. Oh and did I mention it doesn't eat up much resources? (Scan once a day)

2. Malware Bytes AntiMalware - This baby is free, reliable and updated every 10 minutes, well maybe not 10 minutes but it is updated at least more than twice a day from my experience. This supplements Avira by removing items that are not detected by Avira. Now, no trojan, virus worm or whatever malicious software will ever cause great damage to your system (Scan once every three days)

3. Last but not least, Windows' default firewall will do the trick. Let's face it, we don't want anything complicated controlling our internet traffic. I mean most of us these days are behind a router which has a built in firewall already. I honestly even didn't run my firewall with xp and was fine with it

Safe Anti Virus?

Mar 11, 2009

which anti virus is best and doesn't makes PC slower.the problem is disk cleaners or anti viruses sometimes removes some vital system files or registry keys or some programs after virus scan don't work.for example my Kasper anti virus deleted a file as torjen than blue screen started to comes after booting and couldn't able to boot vista again so had to format it.looking for a anti virus that has everything and doesn't have risk after deleting the files that it detects as virus or Trojan.

Anti-virus Settings

Jun 14, 2008

I am attempting to load AVG onto my computer, but every time I do, it tells me I'm already running an anti-virus program, and I know it's not a good idea to run two at the same time. I previously had the CA Anti-Virus Suite, but I've uninstalled that program successfully. The only other thing I can think of is the McAfee VirusScan which came with Vista, but I assume was just a free trial and is now out-of-date. How do I find out what the computer thinks I'm still running? And if it is this McAfee trial, how do I get rid of it? I don't see that option anywhere.

Anti Virus Program Questions. (AVG?)

Apr 14, 2010

I have a question about anti virus programs.

Recently I had some trouble with malware and came to realize how truly useless McAfee is, as my friend put it "its a DCS anti virus (doesn't catch ****)".

A few people recommended AVG and after doing some research it seems to be the way to go.

I was wondering what your opinions on AVG are and if there is anything else I could use to keep my comp safe. (I have ad block plus for firefox and malwarebytes but thats all. I feel bad for not being more careful with my poor machine, it's been abused)

Another thing. Would it be smart to just go ahead and remove McAfee from my computer completely after I get a new virus program?

Installing Symantec Anti-Virus

Mar 7, 2010

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2) (32-bit) on a Toshiba Satellite A215. I'm trying to install Symantec Endpoint Protection (32-bit) that I downloaded from the ACERT website for home use. (Unmanaged, typical install). For some reason, it gets to: Removing System Registry Values in the install process, then says, "Rolling back action," and cancels the install. It says, "The wizard was interrupted before Symantec Endpoint Protection could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete
installation at another time, please run setup again." I have restarted and tried again, same thing.

Since then, I haven't been able to get to the desktop. I get the BSOD with an arrow. After about 30 seconds displaying the BSOD, it automatically reboots and repeats the cycle continuously. I've tried F8 upon restart and chose last known configuration but I get the same BSOD. I also tried to get into safe mode but after choosing the option it goes back to the BSOD.....................

Anti Virus 2008: Cannot Be Removed With Ununstallers

However when it came to the remove part he found that this would cost money so he declined. Now I am desperately trying to rid myself of this curse. I cannot open any downloads or anything else without this warning me that I must remove viruses with this prog before any further progress can be made. I cannot be removed with my ununstallers, nor with its own. Equally I cannot get system restore to do its tricks,This is a really bad one.
