Jul 29, 2009My wife was on the internet and suddenly System Pro popped up and started scanning warning my wife of a virus attack on her computer and wanted her to buy the AV Pgm for $49.95. She just clicked all the exits and got off of the internet and now she is locked out of her computer. We can't get system restore to work, Can't get safe mode to work, She has AVG 8 installed but cannot start it. Tried SFC /scannow but was denied access. Tried putting the Windows XP disk in to do a repair and was unable to get it to start. I think the only thing to do is reformat the HD and start over but her PC ignores the A drive and the dvd drives. I cannot get into it in order to re format it.

Jun 26, 2009last week i brought a new laptop, it came with the norton antivirus free trial. While visiting a site (i dont remember what) norton detected a virus (again i dont remember what) norton then crashed on me and would not run at all even after following the "fixes" it suggested. Ive always used AVG free on my PC's so i uninstalled Norton and after a few attempts finally managed to find and install AVG.I ran AVG which had a few hits but all were successfully removed. After that i also tried to install Spybot however it will not fully install, i get to the final page for installation, click install and then I get a error which reads " Error Sending Request The server name or address could not be resolved"
I know I have some form of virus/ spyware or somethimg on my PC as my browser frequently directs to Myspace (which i dont use) on the first click on a link, but when i go back to my search and click the same link again it will generally take me to where i need to go- unless it is a virus/spyware/malware removal page (in which case the link is always broken) My browser has also been opening up webpages that generally start with ad. eg ad.reduxmedia.com At the request of a different forum i down loaded hijack this so i could get a log of my pc however the program wont run. So i have come here wher hopefully all advice will be specially tailored to a vista PC. I am aware that i am supposed to post my system information etc however i am new to Vista and still learning the ropes,
Malware Attacking My System Freeze
Feb 16, 2010About two years ago I bought a Vista HP laptop. Recently when I went on vacation with my children the snow storm holed us up in the hotel with nothing to do. So they used my laptop alot. After this, my laptop did not work properly. About 1 minute after I turn it on it will freeze completely. After about ten minutes it will unfreeze but proceed to execute all of the clicks I made during the time it was frozen. I am at about an intermediate stage when it comes to computers. I have already posted the above in the General Discussions forum and they told me to come to you guys. My old firewall did not seem to be doing the job to I downloaded a trial of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and started the scan it has been scanning for about 5 hrs. and has come up with 1 infected object. I am pretty sure that is the root of my problem but my computer won't unfreeze long enough for me to take care of it.

Nov 5, 2009I recently have managed to gain a corrupt file on my computer this basically means my computer does not startup. I have a boot disk available for my system (Windows vista x64 ultimate). However when it comes to trying to select a operating system
in the system recovery options the box is blank and i have no operating system to select. I have a feeling the fact i have sata raid setup on my computer is the reason as to why i cannot see my C: drive. I know this will fix my computer if i can only locate an operating system to detect. I have already carried out all the usual suspects of what is wrong like system restore etc but i cannot find a hard drive to restore.
Anti Virus Constantly Turning Off System

When all that was done, I installed McAfee 2009 ( thru a website for free... ) and i noticed my computer got REALLY slow...I uninstalled it, and i got McAfee Security ( I got it for free since I have ComCast Internet ) Ever since, my Anti-Virus has constantly been turning off. One time, it even said that McAfee Virus Scan was never installed... and I also downloaded a torrent. ( Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 ) anti-virus STILL keeps on turning off...

Jan 10, 2009A friend of mine has Lenovo laptop that runs Vista Ultimate, the laptop itself is a little under a year old. Earlier this year, October-ish, she started her laptop to find the Cannot Find Operating System message. She took it to the tech department at the university we go too and they backed up all her info and had to reinstall Vista. We it has happened again. She said the recovery way didn't work and she had to reinstall Vista, this time losing all her pictures and everything.
What is causing this? I really want to make sure it doesn't happen a third time to her. I have read that some say it is the hard drive but I think if that was the case, she couldn't reinstall Vista or do anything to the laptop as the hard drive would be loose or fried.

- The computer will be boot from this Chip (first part is for readers only)
- The operating system will use existing data in the second part could also
use part from hard disk
- In the end there will be no way to use illegal copies of the operating

Apr 4, 2008I want to make a copy of my Operating System, x64Ultimate, and have partitioned a drive for it. I've read about Vista's Complete System Backup, but that copies the whole pc, and I want to only copy the OS. How do I do this in Vista or do I need something like Acronis for it?

Aug 15, 2008I am considering installing a second operating system on my computer. I am currently running Vista HP x64, which is great, but I would still like to have the simple Windows XP available just for the sake of accessibility. I already have a bit of an idea how I would go about this, but I haven't done it before. When I installed Vista, I didn't notice if it gave me the option to customize the size of the Windows partition Vista was to be installed on like other versions of windows do during installation. I'd like to know from someone who is running multiple OS's how to configure my hard drive's partitions so that xp can be installed as well. Should I uninstall Vista and install xp on half then put vista on again or do I have other options like virtual computer (of which I know nothing and heard about on another site). Anything I should know?

Oct 6, 2009I have 3 hard drives with assigned characters c, d, f (e drive is cd rom) each drive has only 1 partition. On c there is Vista 32-bit Ultimate, on d there is Vista 64-bit home premium. If I change location of paging file - e.g. Vista Ultimate paging on f, Home paging on c then that operating system does not boot correctly. The OS boot progress bar is displayed but system does not boot (I waited many minutes before reset).

Apr 6, 2008My vista ultimate 64 is keep saying that "the operating system is missing".
I have the original installation dvd and run system recovery. I am stuck because my operating system is NOT LISTED and when I click load drivers I have not clue what to select.
After I click load drivers a small screen poops and tels me : INSERT THE INSTLLATION MEDIA FOR THE DEVICE AND CLICK OK TO SELECT THE DRIVER. A driver for what?for pete sake.
I click that and I got the regular screen where i can see my harddrives, removable disks and so. I can t access drive C because is telling me that is not formated and that I have to format it.

After scanning w/my AV program (Avast) nothing came up....i've formatted and reinstalled , maybe im paranoid...but want to make sure this system is secure and Im not sure if it is. I know alot of people say registery cleaners are worthless here, but i used uniblues process scanner and some key processes have foriegn languages infront of their decription (ie,explorer.exe has the russian or sometimes danish word for operating system). looking like this scan for example: ProcessLibrary.com - The online resource for process information! Im running avast again and still no viruses/trojans found. Ran CCleaner,MalwareBytes anti-malware and spybot search and destroy with nothing detected. Only strange things I have noticed is when i use IE,2 iexplorer.exe run in task manager. Am i being overly paranoid?

Ultimate Operating System Freezing
Feb 24, 2009I have the windows installed on a Samsung 80Gb disk, and I have a Toshiba 500Gb Hard disk drive. My Operating System keeps on freezing every couple of hours, with only the reset button working. I can post the event logs if you want me to.
