Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

i really want my default e-mail server to be set up to something that works. and i do not want to go back to using my yahoo account.
How stable is Windows Live Mail? Does it convert your old Windows Mail messages and keep storing messages on your computer, or only online? And what about Contacts? Is there something good to read to read about moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail? The material at is pretty superficial.

Tried changing by accessing Properties from Windows Mail but when I change to "Make this the defalut e-mail handler, apply and save then exit and return to Properties the setting has returned to Not the default e-mail handler.
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium.
Note:
Control panel does show Windows mail as being the Default Newsgroup handler.

Starting about 2 weeks ago, I can't open attachments in Windows Mail. Message says "command failed to execute" I have been reading the posts and still don't know what to do. How do I know if IE8 has been installed as an update? I'm inexperienced with technical stuff. I don't think I installed it, could it have installed on it's own as an update? Tried saving them to desktop but don't know how to separate them from the e-mail, so they still don't open.

View 7 Replies View Relatedsince upgrading tp Vista, Both windows Mail and Live mail do not always donnload messages from my pop 3 accounts. I have to open my accounts online and when I have opened the accounts both mail and live mail will then down load messages, This does not happen all of the time, so I know the account settings are correct. It is just annoying that I have to check online every day rather than just checking mail or live mail. This never happened with XP running Outlook Express. is this a problem with Vista, or my mail servers
View 5 Replies View RelatedI do not have Vista, or Windows Mail, or Hotmail, so I'm flying a bit blind here. I have an acquaintance who has Vista, but does all her emailing via Hotmail. Recently, she has had some problems with the Hotmail service, and she has asked me if it is possible for her to change to the mail program that comes with Vista. (Windows Mail?) The snag is, she would like to import the contents of of all her web-based Hotmail folders, (her email messages in other words), and her Hotmail contacts into whatever email program she changes to.
1. Would this be possible with Windows Mail, or does she need to write off all her Hotmail stuff and start again from scratch?
2. If it is not possible with Windows Mail, is it possible with any other email client, such as Thunderbird or similar?
I tried to post this earlier, but I don't see it. Sorry if this is a duplicate.I have an HP laptop with Vista as the OS. I use Windows Mail to access my aim.com email. I've used this for over a year. Suddenly, I am getting the following error. I can connect to the aim web mail, so my password, etc is valid and working. This seems to be an SSL error, but I have not changed my configuration of the servers in Windows Mail. Any ideas why this is suddenly occurring?
Error message: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.aim.com', Server: 'pop.aim.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Here is the error: Account: 'Yahoo mail Plus', Server: 'plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
View 6 Replies View RelatedVista Business, windows mail. Problem receiving. Receive hangs on one of the messages. I now have a number of messages received mulitple times, Windows mail then gets to 'receiving message 7 of (currently) 21, and hangs. Sometime I get an error saying that the server has timed out. (No response for a minute) Was Perfectly OK last week. (and for a few weeks since getting my new laptop with Norton!)
it downloads the first 6 messages, gets stuck and times out on the 7th, with or without Norton. And of course, since it gets stuck, doesn't clear from the server, which is why the first six keep coming down. I think I am now on SP1, have uninstalled Norton to no effect. I think the problem mail has an Access attachment about 2 meg in size. Anyway, was OK last week, not now. receive is from oneandone, send from either oneandone or eclipse makes no difference.
