View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows Mail's export only works to the local hard drive (heaven knows why). vereything works fine up to that point. Then the last step - copying the export from the hard drive to a removable medium fails. Eg I put the export into a folder on the desktop, but it won't copy to a USB flash stick: it gets started and then hangs - suddenly saying it will take 20+ hours to complete. There is no conceivable space issue. How can I do this last step, which is the key step? Have MS put in a spoiler?
View 7 Replies View RelatedUsing Vista Home Basic. Is there any way to backup EVERYTHING regarding my EMAIL? i.e. My messages, folders, contacts, message RULES. In other words After I do a complete format of my disk because VISTA has said I don't have a GENUINE Verision anymore after using it for more than 8 months and actually verifying the genuineness several times but i digress. So After I do my rebuild i would like to be able to restore my email functionality et all to it's current state with all the messages, folders, rules, etc. AM I asking TOO much in the year 2008 for this to be possible never mind easy?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to backup my emails in Win Mail (Vista home premium) - all of them so theres hundreds of them in dozens of folders I have created. So I go file - export - messages, select a format, select an EMPTY folder on my 1TB external drive, then try to export. I either get an error message telling me that some files may be corrupt, or that the destination folder may be too small. Or if I select just a tiny folder to export, it says export successful, but it only exports ONE email - the top one in the list I think? I really dont think I have corrupted files here - any folder I select to export seems to have a problem... as my motherboard is flakey, and I want to do the backup ASAP before it 'flakes' again!
View 6 Replies View RelatedHave quite a few mail rules to direct incoming mail to subfolders. Each
rule ends with "Stop processing more rules". Rules work consistently, EXCEPT when first starting Win Mail. What often (though not always) happens upon start is that some messages are not being processed by the rules and are left in the Inbox. These messages have the same rule-related characteristics as messages successfully processed by the rule that were processed earlier when WinMail was already running at the time message was received.
I've verified that the rule is correct by then using the "Apply Now" feature for the rule that should handle such messages. The messages then get directed to the correct subfolder. This does NOT occur with just one rule, but seems to happen randomly, depending upon which messages are being received when WinMail starts up. It's almost as if WinMail begins to download messages before the rules have been loaded. Don't know if there is such a sequence in WinMail.
Is there a way to use the "mail" icon to launch Windows Mail instead of Outlook?
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy ISP is Charter, but I do not use charter for my email. I use AOL. My parents have AOL and I have a screen name that I use b/c I have had that email for years. I am trying to set up my Windows Mail (I think this is basically outlook???) I typed in my pop3/smtp and so on. It then prompted me to log in so windows could verify and proceed on. Well, I did my AOL screenname and password and it is not working. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I just can't seem to get my AOL mail into outlook so I can use just outlook.

When I create email using Send To and start typing in the TO block, it will recognize two or three of the addresses in my address book but not the whole list of A's, B's, or whatever. When I do same in Outlook, it autocompletes until the correct address comes up.

My question: after I configure the ingoing and outgoing mail servers for Windows Mail, will this disable my Outlook functionability? In other words, I'd like to know before I go any further whether or not I can use both Windows Mail and Outlook on my PC (using Vista, Home Premium). View 7 Replies View RelatedI am quite amazed that you have not been able to make a better product than Windows Mail as a replacement for Outlook Express. On 7/3/2007 6:10 PM PST Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM" wrote in a related discussion: Why do you have to make life difficult for the users? When I check the box "Automatically complete e-mail addresses when composing, I'd expect more than just the 29 last addresses.
Furthermore, Windows Mail has got a lot worse search feature than Outlook express. When searching for emails, it will not find all the emails. For instants, when I'm searching for parts of an email address, it finds only the messages for 2008. I would like to have Outlook Express on my Vista Home Premium system.
I am using Windows Mail but I think my Outlook 2007 is getting in the way. As follows:
1. If I click on an address inside an email to create a new email then despite my being in Windows Masil it pops up as an Outlook email.
2. If I click on address on a website it defaults to my Outlook
3. And some addresses do not appear when I begin to type them despite the fact that they are in Windows Mail address book, I assume because they are duplicatess from my Outlook address book, though I can't find them there.etc etc.
How do I disable Outlook and just stick with Windows Mail (which is not half as good as Outlook Express but alas, with Vista, can now not be used)
I have Exported my Windows Mail to Microsoft Exchange multiple times this morning, but I can't seem to find the .PST file it made. I have checked for *.PST in all indexed locations as well as all the hard drives in this computer. It made me create a profile (lvsysop) and I have searched the same locations for 'lvsysop' and "lvsysop.pst", but I can't find the file Windows Mail made. I've also checked for "outlook' and "Outlook.pst".Did it make a .PST file and if not what file did it make? It sure looked like it was making something as it scanned through the folders in Windows Mail.
