I have Exported my Windows Mail to Microsoft Exchange multiple times this morning, but I can't seem to find the .PST file it made. I have checked for *.PST in all indexed locations as well as all the hard drives in this computer. It made me create a profile (lvsysop) and I have searched the same locations for 'lvsysop' and "lvsysop.pst", but I can't find the file Windows Mail made. I've also checked for "outlook' and "Outlook.pst".Did it make a .PST file and if not what file did it make? It sure looked like it was making something as it scanned through the folders in Windows Mail.
I've moved from Outlook Express on my XP desktop to Windows mail on my Vista laptop. I plan on moving to Outlook on both computers, but not until I get this folder thing straightened out. I was able to import my OE mail into Windows Mail ok. Then I had a hard drive failure on my laptop. I had backed up my mail files and I was able to restore my Windows Mail ok.
I had several "Recovered Folders", but they included everything. I moved all of my folders out of the recovered folders and placed them once more under the Inbox. Then I deleted the empty recovered folders.
Now I want to backup my mail, not using the Vista backup, but with a third party. So when I go into my Windows Mail folder in Windows Explorer, I find all of the "recovered folders" are still there. Now they're listed as Local Folders. I can't find the configuration of my folders as I see them in Windows mail at all. I have a "Backup" folder with a "new" folder inside of it with a windows file that is unopenable.
I'd like to transfer my all windows mail / messages from Vista 32 bit to Vista 64 bit after installing clean Vista 64 bit on other Hard Drive which will be inserted as a new C; on the same PC. An old C: drive might / my not be included to this PC. An Easy Transfer is not in my case the best option. The Exporting from Vista Windows Mail does not back up all my folders and sub folders from Windows Mail directory. Not to mention that so called "Imported " folders are not the best to handle.
How do I take backup of Windows mail onto an external hard disk or usb drive, so that i can deleted the same from computer hard disk. Also I should be able to see / acess these backup emails at a later date
Using Vista Home Basic. Is there any way to backup EVERYTHING regarding my EMAIL? i.e. My messages, folders, contacts, message RULES. In other words After I do a complete format of my disk because VISTA has said I don't have a GENUINE Verision anymore after using it for more than 8 months and actually verifying the genuineness several times but i digress. So After I do my rebuild i would like to be able to restore my email functionality et all to it's current state with all the messages, folders, rules, etc. AM I asking TOO much in the year 2008 for this to be possible never mind easy?
my ISP is Charter, but I do not use charter for my email. I use AOL. My parents have AOL and I have a screen name that I use b/c I have had that email for years. I am trying to set up my Windows Mail (I think this is basically outlook???) I typed in my pop3/smtp and so on. It then prompted me to log in so windows could verify and proceed on. Well, I did my AOL screenname and password and it is not working. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I just can't seem to get my AOL mail into outlook so I can use just outlook.
How do I get the autocomplete feature to work on WMail like it does in Outlook? When I create email using Send To and start typing in the TO block, it will recognize two or three of the addresses in my address book but not the whole list of A's, B's, or whatever. When I do same in Outlook, it autocompletes until the correct address comes up.
I understand that Outlook has been replace by Windows Mail. I have a new computer and it has WM. The old computer had Outlook, I copied folders with messages onto an external hard drive. How do I get the old messages and contacts into the new WM on the new computer?
I have been trying to setup Outlook as my default mail client. (Why is this so hard?) Anyway, before doing so I was wondering if there is any value to keeping and using Windows mail. I really want to transfere all my information over to my new PC. I have been an Outlook guy for a while and have alot of information that I don't want to loose. Is there any benifit with windows mail?
I've just upgraded to a new pc with vista and windows mail from Xp & outlook express (with virgin). To save my files and emails etc I used windows easy transfer software and copied the files to an external hard drive and then loaded it to the new PC. I initially had problems as my modem didn't install but virgin sent me a wireless connector and all seemed OK. However, when I click on send/receive mail I get an error message 'some errors occured while processing the requsted tasks - please see details below.' But there are no details! I have 3 email addresses.
If I click on the little arrow next to send/rec and then click on each email separately there is no problem. Equally, if I click on 'receive all' there is no problem. When I click on send/rec the first time I open windows mail there is no problem, but thereafter always the error message. I've had Virgin remotely controlling the pc for 90 minutes and they can't suss it!
Also, bizarrely at the top of the page it says inbox - outlook express provided by virgin net even though I appear to be running windows mail (it certainly isn't the usual outlook I have on my old pc). Did I inadvertently load outlook as well as my emails on top of windows mail and they've kind of merged?
Unfortunately I imported a backup folder for my email (.dbx) files without exporting the existing folder which I was going to replace from another pc. The original folder contained recent email files.I have done numerous searches but alas no avail to a former location for my Windows Mail original folder. I have Windows Vista - Home Premium and the former email folder was the original folder with a new PC (Dell Inspiron 530).
I've been getting by with Windows Mail for a while, but miss Outlook from when I last had it. Windows Mail just seems so slow and klugy by comparison--and the Calendar is also usable, but annoying. What do you all think? Outlook worth the investment for someone who is a heavy user with their own business?
When my laptop updated yesturday it replaced my outlook with windows mail. It did not ask me if I wanted this. ALL my contacts are gone, as well as ALL the appointments on my calander. Why did this happen, and more important how do I get my contacts back.
Im trying to import my mail folders/messages from Window Mail to Outlook. In Outlook, I choose, File, Import, Import from another file/program, Windows mail. Outlook finds old mail files (from Outlook express) and imports them perfectly. Problem is they are not my windows mail files. I dont know where outlook is looking for the files or how to find the outlook files to delete them and move the windows mail files to where Outlook is looking.
I use Outlook, (not Outlook Express) and am gearing up to send a work-related HTML newsletter from my personal PC. It looks like I need to do this through Windows Mail. My question: after I configure the ingoing and outgoing mail servers for Windows Mail, will this disable my Outlook functionability? In other words, I'd like to know before I go any further whether or not I can use both Windows Mail and Outlook on my PC (using Vista, Home Premium). I want to keep all my personal emailing intact in Outlook, and only use Windows Mail to send the work-related newsletter.
MSN 9 - (I use this as my main email - waiting for live and hotmail to get stable) to windows mail - will not allow me to do this - message pops up stating that outlook express could not be found - I looked all over for outlook express to download it and can not find it anywhere, or would not let me download - went to Office Depot trying to buy but could not....I have only found problems with windows mail - does not function like outlook express.
I just got a new laptop that doens't have MS Outlook. I want to transfer my .pst files from my old computer to my new one but it doesn't seem to work. If Windows Mail won't accept any .pst files - is there another Mail program that might (for free or affordable price)?
I am quite amazed that you have not been able to make a better product than Windows Mail as a replacement for Outlook Express. On 7/3/2007 6:10 PM PST Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM" wrote in a related discussion: Why do you have to make life difficult for the users? When I check the box "Automatically complete e-mail addresses when composing, I'd expect more than just the 29 last addresses.
Furthermore, Windows Mail has got a lot worse search feature than Outlook express. When searching for emails, it will not find all the emails. For instants, when I'm searching for parts of an email address, it finds only the messages for 2008. I would like to have Outlook Express on my Vista Home Premium system.
I am using Windows Mail but I think my Outlook 2007 is getting in the way. As follows:
1. If I click on an address inside an email to create a new email then despite my being in Windows Masil it pops up as an Outlook email. 2. If I click on address on a website it defaults to my Outlook 3. And some addresses do not appear when I begin to type them despite the fact that they are in Windows Mail address book, I assume because they are duplicatess from my Outlook address book, though I can't find them there.etc etc.
How do I disable Outlook and just stick with Windows Mail (which is not half as good as Outlook Express but alas, with Vista, can now not be used)
I am using Window's Mail because Outlook did not come with my Office Suite. All of my saved emails from February are now gone. Does Window Mail only keep the files for 1 month like my Verizon mail account? where I can get an email service that will keep my emails for as long as I want them.
Just migrated from Outlook Express on XP-SP3 to Windows Mail on Vista. Trying to import .dbx files from OE to WM - and following the import "wizard". Having selected the drive where the .dbox files definitely are, I get the message "No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open" Windows Explorer confirms the files are in the selected drive and I am quite unaware of any other file which might be using them. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong/how to solve ?
I've recently upgarded to windows vista and i'm now using windows mail to access my email accounts. However when i click on a link to an email address, either on a website or through contacts, it attempts to take me to outlook, which i no longer use.
I bought a new home computer with Vista to replace an old one running XP. Outlook Express came with XP, while Vista has Windows Mail instead. I used to be able to set it up to get my MSN mail from within Outlook Express, which I have yet to figure out how to do the same with Windows Mail. I heard that Windows mail cannot take in webmail like MSN. Is that true? Is that is true, then two obvious questions.
1) Why would Microsoft go backward and remove a functionality from newer mail program that comes with the operating system?
2) Both Windows Mail and MSN are Microsoft products, so how can it be possible that they don't connect? Can anyone enlighten me before I throw in the tower and move back to XP?
I have recently changed computers thinking I would be making life easier for myself, but of course that never happens! I used to access my website emails via outlook, one click on the icon and youre in. Now ,I have a different software package of MSoffice and there is no outlook, only windows mail. I have tried to consult my website designer about accessing my email, but they are proving less than responsive.I have all the passwords and pop3 addresses etc but everytime i try to set up the emails, its says server not found.
What can I do to get at my emails? The mouse on my old computer has frozen and I have tried several things (reinstalling xp etc) but it will not budge, so I cannot use it at all,so i'm thinking windows mail is the only way. How can I access my old emails from the server(my client database) with windows mail?
I have a data transfer file from my old and now dead computer that includes Microsoft Outlook mail personal folders and mail. I am unable to open the .pst file with any existing extension or program offered by vista. When I open with Windows mail, I only get current, newly opened Windows Mail and new messages from last two days. I have all my work search information and my divorce e-mail files. I need them desperately....and soon.
