Unfortunately I imported a backup folder for my email (.dbx) files without exporting the existing folder which I was going to replace from another pc. The original folder contained recent email files.I have done numerous searches but alas no avail to a former location for my Windows Mail original folder. I have Windows Vista - Home Premium and the former email folder was the original folder with a new PC (Dell Inspiron 530).
I've moved from Outlook Express on my XP desktop to Windows mail on my Vista laptop. I plan on moving to Outlook on both computers, but not until I get this folder thing straightened out. I was able to import my OE mail into Windows Mail ok. Then I had a hard drive failure on my laptop. I had backed up my mail files and I was able to restore my Windows Mail ok.
I had several "Recovered Folders", but they included everything. I moved all of my folders out of the recovered folders and placed them once more under the Inbox. Then I deleted the empty recovered folders.
Now I want to backup my mail, not using the Vista backup, but with a third party. So when I go into my Windows Mail folder in Windows Explorer, I find all of the "recovered folders" are still there. Now they're listed as Local Folders. I can't find the configuration of my folders as I see them in Windows mail at all. I have a "Backup" folder with a "new" folder inside of it with a windows file that is unopenable.
I have upgraded from Windows Mail to Live Windows Mail and have imported my emails and contacts. The contacts have worked ok but I cannot find any of my imported emails. I have looked in the storage folders and imported folders as well as all other folders but there is no sign of any of my emails.
I recently had my main laptop "crap" out and had the hard drive put onto an external hard drive. I have many contacts, folders and e-mails that I need to put into Windows Mail on my backup laptop but for some reason I can't import them due to permission access?
My computer crashed & I had to repair the system. The User that I entered is "xxxxxx". When I restored my backup files to their original location my mail box, which I had relocated from its default location to "Documents", reinstalled to the user name of my original installation "xxx". I then started Windows Mail and selected the mail box to that location. However when I try to restart Windows Mail I get the following "Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to openthe Windows Mail message store. Your Windows Mailmailbox data is currently being used by another program...............(0x800C0155)"When I click OK I get a window showing "Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. Is there a solution other than repairing Vista again?
I am trying to import some folders into Windows mail and keep getting 'not responding' even after waiting. I get the selection for Windows Mail 7, then Browse to get my files but then 'next' doesn't proceed. I have Vista.
Im trying to import my mail folders/messages from Window Mail to Outlook. In Outlook, I choose, File, Import, Import from another file/program, Windows mail. Outlook finds old mail files (from Outlook express) and imports them perfectly. Problem is they are not my windows mail files. I dont know where outlook is looking for the files or how to find the outlook files to delete them and move the windows mail files to where Outlook is looking.
I have recently started using a new computer with vista. I had a number of emails saved in outlook on my old computer running xp, which I saved to a CD using the export feature. I cannot 'find' these files using the import feature in windows mail in vista,
I put my outlook express .dbx files onto a disk and expected to be able to import them to my new computer, which has Windows Vista basic home edition. how to import my old mail from my .dbx files into Windows Mail?
Does Windows Mail have the ability to import Outlook files (MS Office XP Small Business Outlook) into Windows Mail? I'd like to know before configuring it.
I am being forced to use this tacky Windows Live mail program (coz I want to open attachments after IE8!), I have installed it and as I would expect from a Microsoft install it didn't go smoothly!
After quite some period of time the install program announced that it could not import my contacts - probably the most important aspect of my mail program!
It tells me to do so manually, with no instruction how to of course. I am merely told to point the program in the direction of my Winmail address book.
I can't find a way to import all of my email messages and address book from Mozilla Thunderbird to Windows mail. I am not sure of the extensions that Thunderbird uses.
How do I get my address book to show up in my Vista Email? I have put my email addresses from my old comp into my new Vista syst. and windows mail and they are stored as contacts list. They do not show up when I try to send an email from Windows Mail. I have to go to the list, copy it and place it in the send message myself. I have tried to import this list into the windows mail and it won't do it.
Having just purchased a laptop running Vista Home Premium, I am setting up a Windows Mail account and I wish to import all my Outlook Express Folders and Address Book from my Windows XP SP2 machine. Could someone re-direct me to the correct group for dealing with this, or even tell me where to find the information necessary to make the export/import transition?
I've upgraded to Vista and windows mail but cant seem to import the old message from XP. I see the files in explorer but when I try the import messages via windows mail, the directory where the emails are don't show up?
I recently had my main laptop "crap" out and had the hard drive put onto an external hard drive. I have many contacts, folders and e-mails that I need to put into Windows Mail on my backup laptop but for some reason I can't import them due to permission access? Can anyone help me please get this figured out?
Is there a web page that I could use to import the folders in my Windows Mail to Outlook 2007 somewhere? I am not sure what to do with the Import feature, what to choose, etc.
I'm running Vista home premium 64bit. New computer, new operating system I wanted to import some pics from my camera (nikon D300) and noticed that there is no longer a "camera, photo, scanner wizard" like XP had. I decided to try and use the windows live photo gallery. I picked the groups I wanted to copy off of my camera. Gave them a name or tag. Went to import options and choose my writable drive to import them to. I get this box: options/import options: you cannot import to this folder. Choose another location. I have tried both a CD / DVD, and I know there is room. I went into windows explorer and manually copied the pics to the writable drive so I know its working. So my question is: Why wont Windows live photo gallery let me save my photo's off of my camera to my writable drive?
My questions are does Vista need to have a User name/ documents / favorites folder? And a User name/ favorites folder?
I had a problem importing favorites from my win XP IE 7 via a flash drive,( not a valid bookmark file error ) and after upgrading to IE 8, uninstalling IE 8 and reverting back to IE 7 I got my favorites into the User Name non documents folder.
I deleted the favs folder in documents which showed it as empty. Now I cannot re import my favs again from the flash drive.
I am trying to avoid the whole process of installing IE 8 and reverting to 7 again and I think I did some stupid deleting.
Can I just create a documents /folder name favorites and hope that IE will import form there? If so I tried it and got an error ( incomplete URL ).
I haven't used Windows mail (only used to read news groups) in some time, when I went to use it this morning I received this error message; Folder could not be opened Windows mail could not open this folder. The possible causes are not the problem. I have 2 gig memory and it was working fine when I only had 1 gig of memory. Disk space, I have over 90 gig of free space.
I'd like to transfer my all windows mail / messages from Vista 32 bit to Vista 64 bit after installing clean Vista 64 bit on other Hard Drive which will be inserted as a new C; on the same PC. An old C: drive might / my not be included to this PC. An Easy Transfer is not in my case the best option. The Exporting from Vista Windows Mail does not back up all my folders and sub folders from Windows Mail directory. Not to mention that so called "Imported " folders are not the best to handle.
How do I take backup of Windows mail onto an external hard disk or usb drive, so that i can deleted the same from computer hard disk. Also I should be able to see / acess these backup emails at a later date
I have Exported my Windows Mail to Microsoft Exchange multiple times this morning, but I can't seem to find the .PST file it made. I have checked for *.PST in all indexed locations as well as all the hard drives in this computer. It made me create a profile (lvsysop) and I have searched the same locations for 'lvsysop' and "lvsysop.pst", but I can't find the file Windows Mail made. I've also checked for "outlook' and "Outlook.pst".Did it make a .PST file and if not what file did it make? It sure looked like it was making something as it scanned through the folders in Windows Mail.
Using Vista Home Basic. Is there any way to backup EVERYTHING regarding my EMAIL? i.e. My messages, folders, contacts, message RULES. In other words After I do a complete format of my disk because VISTA has said I don't have a GENUINE Verision anymore after using it for more than 8 months and actually verifying the genuineness several times but i digress. So After I do my rebuild i would like to be able to restore my email functionality et all to it's current state with all the messages, folders, rules, etc. AM I asking TOO much in the year 2008 for this to be possible never mind easy?
In my previous email program of choice, Outlook Express, I used to beable to select the "to" function within the email message template and see a display of contacts that included the FOLDERS. In Windows Mail, the same action calls up ALL the contacts and NO folders. ALthough I can select multiple contacts from the Windows Contacts folder and through "action", install them in the "To" pane of an email message, I cannot jump from folder to folder to, for example, select contacts within another folder whom I wish to CC on the same message. The "Action" sequence always generates a new email template, posting any selected contact or contacts to the "To" pane.
I do not wish to create GROUPS and then go through the convoluted process of calling up the group in the "To" pane, and then deleting the ones I don't want. Needless to say, this feature was critical to my email flow and organization. Am I missing something? I have checked every forum and group I can. Others report the same issue without resolution. One forum individual said, "That's the way Windows Mail is".
I just set up window mail and it works fine, but the question is why all email from yahoo (Transfer from) imported to window mail and left none in yahoo it self. I would like to know if I can transfer back to original or safe all the mail from window mail, so I can use them in other computer.
I like to go back from time to time and see when I sent an email When I click on sent mail folder, windows mail goes off. Cannot look at sent mail, it quits working and reloads whats up?
