I have recently started using a new computer with vista. I had a number of emails saved in outlook on my old computer running xp, which I saved to a CD using the export feature.
I cannot 'find' these files using the import feature in windows mail in vista,
Does Windows Mail have the ability to import Outlook files (MS Office XP Small Business Outlook) into Windows Mail? I'd like to know before configuring it.

Outlook finds old mail files (from Outlook express) and imports them perfectly. Problem is they are not my windows mail files. View 6 Replies View RelatedI am being forced to use this tacky Windows Live mail program (coz I want to open attachments after IE8!), I have installed it and as I would expect from a Microsoft install it didn't go smoothly!
After quite some period of time the install program announced that it could not import my contacts - probably the most important aspect of my mail program!
It tells me to do so manually, with no instruction how to of course. I am merely told to point the program in the direction of my Winmail address book.
I can't find a way to import all of my email messages and address book from Mozilla Thunderbird to Windows mail. I am not sure of the extensions that Thunderbird uses.

I have put my email addresses from my old comp into my new Vista syst. and windows mail and they are stored as contacts list. They do not show up when I try to send an email from Windows Mail. I have to go to the list, copy it and place it in the send message myself. I have tried to import this list into the windows mail and it won't do it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have windows xp pro and vista on my computer. I find I like OE 6.0 on my xp pro to be much faster than windows mail, and I need to switch to windows mail. Unfortunately, i have several accounts on windows mail, and I have forgotten their passwords. So I exported each account in windows mail, and have saved the internet account settings (in *.iaf files). When I use the import function in OE 6.0 (Tools->accounts->Import), it won't let me import any account settings. I don't remember the passwords of a few of those accounts (which currently work with windows mail), but I need to create such accounts in OE 6.0. Is there a way I can migrate account settings in windows mail to OE 6.0?

On old computer (windows xp) I used Outlook, I copied al my e-mails to an external harddisk, so now I try to open the mail (on ex. harddisk) and can't open them because they are all msg files (?) I searched every where if it is possible to open these files. If I change the extension to open them (e.g. word etc.) it is still abacadabra for me. Maybe I had to change the extension of the e-mails before I copied them to ex.harddisk??? Old computer is gone already so I have a "problem" now. I don't know I this is the right communitie

I've ad it set-up to read all in one place all my different e-mail accounts, I've got 3 hotmails, one g-mail and another different one. I just changed my Laptop, still got my old one as a back-up, and WLM was already installed on it and it's a newer version then what I ad, the latest version I think. I would like to know how can I import all my contacts, all my different e-mail accounts set-up, my save e-mails, etc without having to start all over again and enter everything manually, because I've got a lot of stuff in there.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows mail keeps trying to compact the the files when I close the program.It keeps trying and I get errors. How is this fixed? It's the most annoying thing as it doesn't quit, if I click OK - I get another error. How do I get it to compact the news/mail files? Never had this problem with OE I used this to compact and repair the database - it said it compressed it, but did not. WMail is still trying to compess the data base every time I close the program. How is this fixed once and for all? I'm also getting a little window pop up from the bottom bar saying "Data Execution Prevention closed Windows?" What the hell is "Data Execution Prevention?"

Windows Mail will either 1) not allow MIDI files to be inserted into a new message, or 2) not allow MIDI files to be PLAYED. I don't know which it is.

I've also tried the fix listed ere: 'Unable to open .PDF attachments from Windows Mail' with no luck. I have Adobe Reader 9.1 and am running Vista Home Basic 32bit, Service Pack 1.

I have sorted out most issues, but run into problems when I try to send an email with an attachment. I find the Word-doc on my disk and attach it correctly, but when I press send, Mail complains that it can't find the document. This is a stand-alone PC with my user as the only user, and with all admin privs. I have turned off the annoying feature of UAC. I have also installed MS Office 2007 Home, and from a word-doc, I can't send the doc to Mail (this option is greyed out).
