Windows Mail Users Move To Windows Live Mail?

Apr 19, 2008

How stable is Windows Live Mail? Does it convert your old Windows Mail messages and keep storing messages on your computer, or only online? And what about Contacts? Is there something good to read to read about moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail? The material at is pretty superficial.

Pdf Attachments, Move Or Delete The Mail Windows Mail Hangs

May 14, 2010

For the last couple of weeks when I receive mail with attached pdf files, if I try to move or delete the mail Windows Mail hangs. Sometime it recovers but otherwise I need to kill it. I can open the attachment by clicking on the paper clip etc and everything seems fine so I don't think it's a security thing.

Default Email, Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail

May 12, 2009

i also tried to change my default email to windows live, it doesn't work, comes up w/ some weird kind of mail that doesn't send messages (not sure if it's trying to use windows mail even tho it's set to windows live mail, or what). so, i'm trying to set up my windows live account (which is new, just set it up a couple of months ago), through windows mail. tried setting to pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com and when it goes to connect i keep getting this error message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

i really want my default e-mail server to be set up to something that works. and i do not want to go back to using my yahoo account.

Windows Mail / Live Mail Acess To Server

Mar 23, 2008

since upgrading tp Vista, Both windows Mail and Live mail do not always donnload messages from my pop 3 accounts. I have to open my accounts online and when I have opened the accounts both mail and live mail will then down load messages, This does not happen all of the time, so I know the account settings are correct. It is just annoying that I have to check online every day rather than just checking mail or live mail. This never happened with XP running Outlook Express. is this a problem with Vista, or my mail servers

Windows 7: Windows Mail Versus Windows Live Mail

Oct 6, 2009

What, if any, inferences can be drawn from the fact that there are typically three times more posts about Windows Mail (WM) than Windows Live Mail (WLM). Could it be that:

(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?

(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?

(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?

My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it. I am cross-posting this to both newsgroups and suggest that replies go to WM as it has the larger following.

Viewing Other Users Mailboxes On Windows Mail

Jun 9, 2009

I recently purchased a new PC with Windows Vista (R) Home Premium + Windows Mail pre-installed. I set up Vista with two users, both on administrator status. Both users use the same common email address & ISP provider to send & receive emails. When either user connects to Windows Mail the new emails download into their user mailbox & the other user cannot view them. I wish to configure Windows Mail so emails will download into both users mailboxes at the same time, irrespective of which user is logged on. This is required so either user can view all the emails received & can reply to any of them.

Windows Mail (not Live Mail)

Jun 28, 2009

I use Windows Mail (not Live mail). Until 2 weeks ago, had no problems but now Windows Mail will not receve any e-mail apart from a couple of spam ones all else is blocked. It will send e-mail no problem still. I can only receive e-mail if I log in and go via my ISP Tiscali home page so, I know that there are around 50 e-mails a day being sent to me but Windows Mail doesn't download them or produce any error codes to say their is a fault. To try and resolve this, I have turned off my Norton e-mail scanner and even uninstalled it completely and also turned off windows defender and windows firewall - but it all made no difference. Windows Mail just can't seem to see my e-mails. This all started when I was on holiday abroad 2 weeks ago when I was using a WiFi connection different to my usual Tiscali wireless used at home.

Windows 7 Live Mail

Dec 22, 2009

I have Windows Mail on my Vista machine. I did a clean install of Windows 7, and I now see that Windows Mail is not included. I must down from the Windows Live collection of 'Live' applications.

when I pressed the download button, I saw the file was named wlsetup-web.exe. Does this mean that to install Mail, I will first be installing the framework for installing any other Live applications I may want in the future? That is, is this like installing only Word from the Office suite?

Ms Want Therefore Don't Fix Wm In Windows Live Mail

Mar 28, 2009

Windows Mail is so buggy I am beginning to feel I shall be forced to use Windows Live Mail, which I dislike imtensely. Almost wonder if that is what MS want and therefore dont fix WM. In Windows Live Mail, is there any way of sizing or moving the list of email accounts which dominates the whole of the left hand column? I have many accounts and having them take up so much space is just awful. It's the huge account headers that cause the problem - really bad design. Also, how does one get buttons for the common functions onto the menu bar? Or is this impossible and yet another bad design flaw? Why on earth don't MS provide OE for Vista? There was nothing wrong with it and the demand for it seems enormous.

- Windows Live does not have any archive feaures like Outlook
- Not sure what happens if you have an unreliable broadband connection like me?

Windows Live Mail Has Gone Feral!

Aug 30, 2009

My Vista Ultimate laptop's CPU temperature sits normally at around 45C but now whenever I run Windows Live Mail it will shoot up over 90C and then forcibly shut the machine down! No other program has this effect and in all other respects things are running normally.

What could be causing this? How can I fix it? I have had the motherboard replaced, the heat sinks and the graphics card and I still have the problem. The machine has been cleared of all dust and has plenty of free space around it for ventilation. It has only started happening recently and, as I said, it is only caused by Windows Live Mail.

Windows Live Mail NOT OPENING!

May 15, 2010

I'm beginning to encounter a real problem with my Windows Live Mail [Hotmail] account. I am referring to the 'online' display for Live Mail, as opposed to the web-based version [requires sign-on]. This displayed version;

If I click on to the Live Mail icon in the Quick Launch tray, the 'timer' symbol appears briefly......then nothing.

I have been able to restore some function by going to Control Panel>Programs and Features>Windows Live Essentials, and carrying out a Repair of Windows Live Features. As a last resort, I've also carried out a couple of instances of System Restore. I realise that this latter action is rather drastic, but I cannot think of any other alternative.

Just a thought though, is there any danger of losing all my Hotmail Accounts [I have two] Folders and Messages, should I decide to Uninstall, then Reinstall Windows Live Mail?

Solution

After earlier editing this post for the first time, I continued to look for a solution in Vista Forums, and eventually found it in Brink's post on Windows Live Suite Downloads, here;

Windows Live Suite Downloads

It was here that I noticed that the Version of Live Mail that I was using [14.0.8050.1202], was different to the updated Version mentioned in Brink's post [14.0.8064.0206].

Initially, I tried to do the update using my Firefox 3.0.12 browser, but soon realised that it was more appropriate to do the Windows Live Mail update using Internet Explorer 8 as the browser, and by downloading the full list given for the Windows Live Suite. I have yet to check, but this action [the full download] may have also resolved an ongoing 'bug' I have in Windows Live Photo Gallery.

Incidentally, prior to this I had done a check of Windows Update, and it reported that there were no Updates outstanding.

To confirm that the update was successful, this is the latest Version of Live Mail now installed in my system;

Windows Live Mail Installation

May 15, 2009

I'm running Vista Home Premium with all the latest Windows Updates. I've been reading how Windows Live Mail (WLM) is an advanced version of WM so I finally decided to see if I could download and install it. Below is the link that I used to download WLM. I actually got to that link by Googling WLM and was taken to the site below. My dilemma is that I think I wound up signing up for Windows Live Hotmail so that I really can't tell if I've got WLM or not. Sorry to be so dense. I'm not even sure if these are one in the same. Yikes! Can anyone tell me if the `Mail' program I downloaded ((I had a choice to download other components (like Photo Gallery, etc.)) but only chose WLM). Do I now have is WLM or is it just a hotmail account?

Windows IE, Opening Live Mail

May 14, 2009

I am so frustrated with Windows IE, Live Mail, you name it. The problem I have most often is, when I am opening my mail, it takes forever to load, then I get the error message "Windows Cannot display that page" - happens everytime I try to reply or send a message. I have a 9-month old Dell Studio, and despite the motherboard crapping out the second week I had it, it's been fairly okay for my needs. I run Vista XP Home, and I hate Vista, but cannot find out how to switch back to Win.

I got off track - How the heck can I fix Live mail to work better, or do I upload another browser program? Don't laugh, I don't know all the right terms to say - so "explain it to me like I'm a six-year old." (Anybody know the movie where that line is from?)
