Windows Live Mail - Can't Import My Contacts
May 11, 2009I am being forced to use this tacky Windows Live mail program (coz I want to open attachments after IE8!), I have installed it and as I would expect from a Microsoft install it didn't go smoothly!
After quite some period of time the install program announced that it could not import my contacts - probably the most important aspect of my mail program!
It tells me to do so manually, with no instruction how to of course. I am merely told to point the program in the direction of my Winmail address book.
Windows Live Mail, Settings, Contacts?
May 11, 2008Just curios of everyone that uses Windows Live Mail finds it to be better than Windows Mail and why? If I were to install it, any known problems I should be aware of and will it bring all my settings, contacts and so on over?

May 9, 2009I've been using Windows live mail for some time now and I like it, it works great!! I've ad it set-up to read all in one place all my different e-mail accounts, I've got 3 hotmails, one g-mail and another different one. I just changed my Laptop, still got my old one as a back-up, and WLM was already installed on it and it's a newer version then what I ad, the latest version I think. I would like to know how can I import all my contacts, all my different e-mail accounts set-up, my save e-mails, etc without having to start all over again and enter everything manually, because I've got a lot of stuff in there.

May 12, 2009i also tried to change my default email to windows live, it doesn't work, comes up w/ some weird kind of mail that doesn't send messages (not sure if it's trying to use windows mail even tho it's set to windows live mail, or what). so, i'm trying to set up my windows live account (which is new, just set it up a couple of months ago), through windows mail. tried setting to pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com and when it goes to connect i keep getting this error message:

Jul 29, 2009I had a problem with my Windows Mail, all of the sudden I could not get my mail to show up in the inbox so I signed up for Windows Live Mail to see if I could just export everything to it but it did not work. I now have a Windows Live import box stuck on my Desktop that I cannot get rid of and I cannot get into my Windows Mail anymore. Oct 6, 2009What, if any, inferences can be drawn from the fact that there are typically three times more posts about Windows Mail (WM) than Windows Live Mail (WLM). Could it be that:
(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?
(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?
(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?
My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it. I am cross-posting this to both newsgroups and suggest that replies go to WM as it has the larger following.

Apr 30, 2008I used to have outlook express, and when i wanted to send mail to Tim i could type T and the rest of the name would appear as long as tim was in my contacts. but now in windows vista, when i put Tim in my contacts it auto completes his address not his name so.....if tims address is adsfsdf@wwe.com typing in his name helps me none....is there any way to change this?
