The arrows in the icons in Vista are annoying me. After a bit of googling, I've found out that a utility called 'Vista Shortcut Manager' can be used to remove those arrows without any manual registry editing. Thing is I can find only the x86 version of the software but I'm using the Vista x64.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOn my x64 box, TFS power tools was conflicting with Office Communicator. So I blocked Office Communictor from the startup sequence. As I expected, at startup I would get a message "Blocked startup programs" with the option to "run blocked program" if I want to launch Office Communicator explicitly. Good.
Then I uninstalled TFS power tools, and decided to unblock Office Communicator, so it can run at startup again. Unfortunately, the Office Communicator app shows as "Permitted," but is still being blocked at startup.
In other words, I can't unblock Office Communicator. Vista says it is "permitted", but it is not permitted at startup. I tried disabling and re-enabling it, to see if it would clear up, but no good.
How do I force it to be unblocked so that it will run at startup?
I detest those shortcut arrows that get put on all the desktop icons. I used Tweak UI in XP to get rid of them but can't find anything that works in Vista. I tried Frameworkx that did absolutely nothing.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I recently (using one of the walkthroughs on this site) was able to manually remove the shortcut arrow, it worked great, but I think I may have screwed something up along the way. I use the Games folder to get to my games quickly, but after messing with removing the shortcut icons, games will no longer run from in the folder. I receive the following error when I try to load a game from the folder: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. The only problem, these are shortcuts, there is no program associated with shortcuts, is there? Anyway can anyone tell me how to make the folder work right. All other shortcuts outside of that folder work fine, and all the shortcuts go to the right place, and if I load the shortcut from the AppData GameExplorer folder it works fine.
All shortcuts in Explorer are the Windows default icon. The Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts are fine. Also, some folders such as "History" and "Temporary Internet Files" are the Windows default icon. I've deleted the Icon Cache, which did nothing.

Right click on the icon and select Rename.

The first concerned a Scanner, where Add/Remove would not remove all the software, so that installation of the new Scanner is not possible, until a procedure recommended by the Scanner's makers involving modifications to the Registry is carried out, which I could not possibly do myself, so it means hiring a Professional to do the job!
The second concerns Spellex. Here again the old version has not been removed, so that installation of the latest version is not fully carried out, making the software useless. How can Microsoft produce Windows where such problems occur? What is the experience of others in case this is a fault with my computer?
While reading news etc. the keys up, down, & arrow keys keep timing out. I have to left click to activate again to page down etc. I have a laptop with Vista?

Vista create a shortcut with a generic icon, instead of that with the 2 screens like in second picture. Rarely the system put the second picture icon, but after a few of minutes, the icon come back to that ugly generic. Why system change the icon without reasons? Just gone to view the pics again and says the following: The drive or network connection that the shortcut (then the image number) - Shortcut.Ink refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again. I have no idea what this means but deleted the pictures of the camera as I viewed them and they were fine.

As you may or may not know, the keyboard has special vista shortcut keys, such media center, 3d flip, gadgets, photo gallery etc. Anyways, I've noticed that these shortcut keys don't work, until I open up the logitech software that configures and calibrates all the buttons on the hardware. So pretty much once I've opened up the program these keys work, but on startup and before I open up the software they dont. I've installed the drivers and I've checked my msconfig to see wether or not the service is switched off on startup, and it is on.

Every time I boot my machine (dual boot - 2 x vista 32 home Premium), the boot manager tries to take me into an incomplete, and unwanted, vista setup option which then hangs the machine. I want to delete that option from the boot manager but it doesn't appear in bcdedit, and that is about as far as my technical knowledge goes. how to get rid of an unwanted vista setup option from the bm?
