View 9 RepliesOn my x64 box, TFS power tools was conflicting with Office Communicator. So I blocked Office Communictor from the startup sequence. As I expected, at startup I would get a message "Blocked startup programs" with the option to "run blocked program" if I want to launch Office Communicator explicitly. Good.
Then I uninstalled TFS power tools, and decided to unblock Office Communicator, so it can run at startup again. Unfortunately, the Office Communicator app shows as "Permitted," but is still being blocked at startup.
In other words, I can't unblock Office Communicator. Vista says it is "permitted", but it is not permitted at startup. I tried disabling and re-enabling it, to see if it would clear up, but no good.
How do I force it to be unblocked so that it will run at startup?
I detest those shortcut arrows that get put on all the desktop icons. I used Tweak UI in XP to get rid of them but can't find anything that works in Vista. I tried Frameworkx that did absolutely nothing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe arrows in the icons in Vista are annoying me. After a bit of googling, I've found out that a utility called 'Vista Shortcut Manager' can be used to remove those arrows without any manual registry editing. Thing is I can find only the x86 version of the software but I'm using the Vista x64.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't get it to work. I tried running as administrator and no luck. I have a Asus G2 series gaming laptop-OS Vista Home premium 32 bit. The game installed great, but as soon as I click on the shortcut from the desktop it will flicker a black screen and just return me to my desktop. I tried putting my computer in a 800x600 resolustion and still didn't start it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSince installing IE8 RTM in Vista SP1 x86 I've been having some problems with internet shortcut icons not displaying correctly on my desktop. I've tried deleting and redoing them, tried using AM Deadlink to refresh my Favourites icons to no avail. They show normally in Favourites but show as a smaller version within a white frame on the desktop. This doesn't seem to effect all of them, just some.
I've attached two thumbnails to illustrate what I mean. The first one is the Canada Post item in Favourites and the second one is the same shortcut on the desktop. As you can see there there's another one doing the same thing for Newegg.ca. I think I am right in saying that it's not a case of rebuilding the system icon cache as that only effects system icons, am I right? FYI desktop resolution is 1680 x 1050 and I have the desktop icon size set to Classic.

I removed the program the way I should but it left the shortcut on the desktop and will not let me delete or move it. View 8 Replies View RelatedIn Outlook and Outlook Express I put a shortcut on my desk that would open a new email message window. In Windows Mail on Vista I haven't yet figured out how to do that. Basically, I want to click on the shortcut, have it open a new message window where I can type my message, just like I would do if I had Windows Mail up and running.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have always had two Search options under Vista. If I click on the Start button, there is a box at the bottom of the screen where I can enter a term and search. That option has never been very helpful. However, there was previously another Search option after I clicked on Start. It was among the list on the right side that includes Control Panel, Default Programs, Help and Support, etc. Using that option, I could enter locations to search -- I usually only want to search Drive C and am not interested in searching the Internet with this option.
Well, that second item seems to have disappeared! Have I lost my mind? As far as I can tell, this happened only after SP1 was installed. I located the same box by going to Help and Support and searching for it there (ironic, isn't it?), but I could not figure out where it is actually located. It doesn't make much sense to search for a search box so that I can enter information in the search box!!!
Can any of you tell from this description what has happened and how I can solve the problem? It would even help if I could create a shortcut to the desktop for that Search box, but that could not be done within the box.
In windows vista does anyone know how to create a shortcut (desktop or quicklaunch kind) for regular "Windows Flip" also known as "ctrl-alt-tab". Regular windows flip can be used in aero glass with the keyboard shortcut "ctrl-alt-tab", now i want to place a desktop shortcut for it. NOT for the 3D version which shortcut is widely available (DwmApi #105).
I want to have this shortcut for the regular flip, the filmstrip version wich even in aero I find more useful and quite better looking than the 3D flip version. How to creating "desktop shortcuts" from "keyboard shortcuts"

I have lost, for some reason, the Create a Desktop Short cut from my right click context menu.
I tried one thing and all I got was the Desktop icon on my Desktop. I did more searching but can NOT find: "the file *Desktop (create shortcut)* from the Default user folder."
I went to my User folder and there is no such item. Am I looking in the wrong area?
I uninstalled a game, but the game never uninstalled the shortcuts on the desktop. Upon attempting the deletion of these icons a window pops up and says it cannot locate file and will not delete...

View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded some pictures from digital camera this morning and saved them on my desktop as I always do. Viewed the pictures & all was ok. Just gone to view the pics again and says the following: The drive or network connection that the shortcut (then the image number) - Shortcut.Ink refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again. I have no idea what this means but deleted the pictures of the camera as I viewed them and they were fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to set up a remote desktop connection between my laptop and my desktop both running on Vista Home Premium. Why does this error come up:
"This computer can't connect to the remote computer."
when they are both connected (wirelessly) via the same network.
I don't find the desktop to be of much use, too many icons take away from the image I choose to display, but I do use the desktop toolbar from the taskbar quite a bit. There are icons that I cannot remove from the desktop toolbar such as the Network & Control Panel icons they won’t leave the toolbar, and I can’t seem to kill the IE icon off for good, either.
