I am trying to Install Windows Vista Ultimate OEM 32-bit on my new build that I recently purchased. I have got to different stages and have had so many errors that I have lost track. I have got the BSOD numerous times and to be honest, I don't know why I decided to buy Vista. I have got so far to the Hard drive drvers screen before I plugged in my USB memory stick and it stopped responding. After that, I haven't go as far. Sometimes I get a BSOD right after it has finished loading the files explaining to me that it couldn't write to the memory because it was read-protected. I haved also got to the language select screen but it doesn't respond. I've even got as far as the regristration key input (again) and I get a little pop-up box saying all sorts of errors. Is it my system which isn't compatible? (BTW my Vista is legal)

1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work.
a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.
b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore.
c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
I am about to install Vista64 home premium on a new build with 8 megs of RAM. The disk is Vista64 SP1. I was wondering if it is still recommended to install Vista64 with only 1 stick of RAM first prior to installing all 8 megs? Or because the disk has SP1, is this no longer an issue?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to check the memory for errors BEFORE I load/install Windows Vista Home Premium x64 to avoid install hang-ups. Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm assuming a clean install with an upgrade license will be identical to a clean install with a 'full' copy, except that at some point during the process, it will ask for my key for Windows XP? I just want to confirm this is the case before I go buy an upgrade copy. one last question to tack on here - if I have a desktop and a laptop computer will it let me install the same copy and license key of Vista on both? I know some MS products in the past have allowed you to install on more than one computer because they realize a lot of people have more than one computer but they only work with one at a given time.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've tried numerous times to Install Vista Sp1, but without success. The install appers to go well, reaching 100% at stage 3, but then the screen reports the SP did not successfully install, and proceeds to roll back. On Checking the message in Windows Update, the install failed with error 80004005. I've raised the issue directly with MS, but the advice to install the SP in Safe mode has not helped. I've also trawled various forums and cannot find any reference to the specific error code.
I own a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ1. A number of forums seem to suggest it might be a hardware issue, and I have tried disabling / uninstalling various devices to
see if this helps, but this also has not got me any further. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what this error code means? Is there a way to force the SP to install despite this error code (it does get to 100% at stage 3 after all, so maybe it does install, but one of the packages check routines is picking up an error which doesn't really exist???)

View 7 Replies View RelatedRunning Vista Home Premium on Compaq Presario notebook. This is my first Vista machine and I find its inability to do a "proper" search a stunning shortcoming. Or am I missing some secret setting? Scenario- I want to do a search of my entire hard drive for a file. I only know the extension so I enter .snf and the results are 1 file found. Wrong!First of all, the results don't show me the complete path to the file.
Instead of displaying C:UsersownerDocuments, it displays C:Usersowner. That's it. I either have to flail around and manually check all the owner folders or right click and look at the file's properties. Why won't Vista display the FULL path to the file? Secondly, and this is really disappointing, is that I KNOW there are at least 70 more .snf files on my C drive that Vista apparently can't locate! I never had this search problem with XP. You ask XP and it tells all. Simple. So what gives with Vista? Is there some way to make Vista do a COMPLETE search and display ALL found files with FULL PATHS?

I wish to UPGRADE (not clean install) my vista ultimate to win 7 ultimate.I put the win 7 (full version) DVD in my computer, setup ran and told me to remove Kaspersky anti-virus.I removed Kaspersky anti-virus and did the requested re-boot.
Now when I put the win 7 DVD in, setup does not run. When I try to double click on the DVD drive in explorer I get a readme text file and that's all.Trying to run: d:setup.exe in the run command on the start menu and at a command prompt does not work either.
I can boot from the DVD but that is only for a clean install, which I don't want to do.
I bought my computer a few weeks ago and I can't find the information anywhere. It just says I'm running Home Premium but doesn't mention if it has SP1 or not. Windows updates haven't said it needs downloading so does this mean it already has SP1? Is there a way to find out?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Hp 8300 with the Windows media center running Vista. If I try and watch the TV, it will pause and need to restart the computer to use the computer. It just locks up. Hp Tech support had me install new drivers, then they had me do the reinstall to original settings.. It worked until I tried to record, then it locked up again and the TV doesn't work again. It will lock up after watching the TV about 15 seconds. I returned the computer and got another one, it does the same thing, Tech support told me I had a bad tuner (on 2 computers?) they sent me a new tuner, that didn't work. Then they said I needed to reinstall the factory settings from the disk, they sent that to me and that did not fix the problem. The computer did not come with a new monitor and I am using a Sony flatscreen, its about 4 years old. Is that my problem? I'm going to take the computer to the store and let them see if they can make it work with a new monitor.

I currently use Embassy Trust Suite on this laptop (with Vista Ultimate x32) for hardware authentication. My HDD and system are locked by passwords which are both mapped to my fingerprint. The hardware authentication is the only functionality I use it for. The 2.1.2.25 version of Embassy Trust Suite is available from Dell for my model but it doesn't appear to be x64 compatible. It lists only Vista x86. Embassy has a full version on their website but it references the TPM driver from my manufacturer. Does anyone out there have an M6300 running an x64 version of Vista?
