System Starts Registry Cleaner Program

Jun 10, 2010

Vista Home Premium 64-bit Since I started using a registry cleaner program (Advanced SystemCare Professional), I've noticed that every once in a while the system will go through two startups. The first startup begins normally, but then after the Welcome screen there's a pause of several seconds. Then a window pops up in the upper left corner of my screen that says "setting up personalized settings" followed by "msiexec /fuo {product ID} /qn". There's a second window that appears right after that but it disappears before I can read it. The system then goes through what appears to be a normal shutdown, and then immediately restarts a second time, and from that point on everything seems fine.

This doesn't happen at every startup. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Advanced SystemCare, but I can't pinpoint the cause. The anomaly disappears if I disable all of ASC's automated functions. It's not a critical problem, but it has aroused my curiosity. I'd welcome any insights anyone can offer.

System Optimizer Registry Cleaner Reeked Havok System

Feb 17, 2009

I have several utility software programs. I am afraid to use any of them. I am using Vista home premium 64 bit. I bought this computer back in april. after I bought it I purchased a new program called Advanced System Optimizer. When I google for information on a quality utility program this program had very high recommendations. I also have Fit-It utilities 7 and an older version of System Mechanic. My computer is running slower now and I know it needs cleaning up. The last time months ago right after I purchase Advance System Optimizer I ran the registry cleaner and it reeked havok on my system. I called the company and they told me their program I purchased was not designed for 64bit systems. Of course they didn't refund my money. Question is: My computer needs cleaning up I can tell it is running slower than it used to. What utility program is out there that will work on my system. My system is Vista Home Premium 64 bit Intel core 2 Duo 2.6 GHZ.

Quicksys Registry Cleaner: Not Recommended To Defragment Registry Across Drives

Feb 27, 2009

WARNING: only for advanced users who like to clean the registry. Quicksys regcleaner normally $25 free - only 4hrs left from here: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/

Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs. Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs. After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too ). Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have. WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.

Registry Cleaner

Aug 6, 2009

I've read in some posts that a registry cleaner isn't recommended for Vista, primarily because some can install malware instead of getting rid of it.

But I've got some issues with Vista and I swear it's from leftover software installations - such as SQL 2008 beta. I don't want to reinstall Vista because it's a pain in the butt. Are there any registry cleaners that are recommended as safe?

Wise Registry Cleaner

Nov 15, 2008

I am thinking of using Wise Registry Cleaner Free, I did a scan with it and it found about 2000 invalid entries, I am not sure if it is safe to remove all of the 2000 entries as this does seem to be quite a lot and I don’t want to muck up my pc. Any one used it before and if so does it do a good job without mucking your pc up?

Does Home Premium Require Registry Cleaner?

Nov 26, 2009

I have vista home premium and am experiencing the following problems: a) Internet explorer 8 suddenly disconnecting. this is happening frequently b) Slow PC- poor navigation response times. I have attempted to speed things up by doing a win disk clean and disk defrag. Also downloaded ccclean to clean up my system. All this improved PC speed marginally (say 5-10%) but my internet explorer disconnection issue continues. I am considering purchasing a registry cleaner to resolve my main 2 issues.

Program Starts Then Disappears

Mar 23, 2008

All of a sudden some programs start and go away, some others won't even start. As an example: I start "Gspot v2.70a", it starts and the progress bar starts moving to the end; and then Gspot closes. Some others programs will not even start, I've uninstalled them all and reinstalled them. I click on the shortcut that the install-program put on the desktop, nothing! I click on the *.exe itself, nothing. I start it as an administrator....same thing, nothing. They do NOT appear in Taskmanager. Anybody able to solve this mistery?

A Program Starts Together With Windows, But Is Not In StartUp

Feb 11, 2009

I installed on my brand new Windows Vista PC an unnecessary program (D-Link Monitor, but it is not important). The program is not needed and also it didn't install properly. Now when I start my PC, the program starts up displaying several messages to inform me that it cannot
work.

I had a look in StartUp - it is not there. I tried to uninstall it to no avail.

How/where else can start of this program be triggered? And how to make it not to start?

Connect To Internet Automatically Whenever System Starts Up?

May 6, 2008

I want to connect to my broadband Internet connection automatically whenever my system starts up. In XP I did this by creating a shortcut to the connection and placing it in the startup menu. However, Vista Home Premium apparently does not allow me to create a shortcut to an Internet connection. When I right-click on the connection, the menu offers only Disconnect, Status and Properties. The equivalent menu in XP included the option to Create Shortcut. how to launch a connection at startup in Vista? Or is this another of the simple conveniences that Microsoft has decided to make impossible?

System Mechanic To Kept The Registry

Mar 20, 2008

Has anyone heard from IOLO about a 64bit vista version (beta or otherwise) of system mech? I like the "all in one" job it does. And although i don't allow it to run in the backgroud I ran it about every 2 weeks in XP. It kept the registry clean and did a nice defrag job. I am not very good with registries so I like to use software that I feel confident with. I also like the tweaking features, they are understandable. This isn't a commercial for them, but does anyone know of a substitute for SM that will do a similar job?

But I have found out through two reinstalls and more BSODs than I can count that on "my" machine SP1, Auslogics reg. defrag and System Restore just don't play well together! Rebooting System Registry Cleaners Doen't Work

Jul 9, 2009

I used a program (Flashget) to download a wmv tutorial onto my desktop. When files like these are downloading they have two icons, the actual file icon and a white 'in process' file which disappears when the actual file has finished. For some reason in this case the white icon remained (believe the file download failed to activate) I have tried many things and nothing deletes it. The file has no bytes and Windows tells me "This is no longer located in C:UsersMeDesktop. Verify the item’s location and try again."

I have tried refreshing the desktop, rebooting, using various system registry cleaners, used Move on Boot, MalwareBytes, R Wipe and Clean, Wise Disk Cleaner, Unlocker etc etc. I have also tried renaming the file (not found), renaming another file with the same name and popping it onto the desktop (this doesn't work because its called "filename.wmv." and the period/full stop at the end keeps getting corrected when I try to change another file to the same name). Actually I have now managed to rename an icon with the same name and Vista allows both of them to exist at the same time. I've therefafter retried deleting and renaming the troublesome file all these options have failed.

System Is Haunted: Terminate The Program

Mar 27, 2009

This is not a joke! I started to hear sporadically some music and voice on my PC, like if I was listening to a radio station; I have no such application on my system. When this is happening, only ordinary applications (like Outlook or Word) are running. Stopping all the applications does not make any difference. When it happens, I have noticed that a process called 17134.exe is running and is consuming quite a lot of memory space. At start-up of my system, the original memory space used by that process is around 2000K but when I start hearing the sounds, the amount of memory used is around 58000K and varying; it uses between 10 to 30% of CPU. If I stop the process, the situation goes back to normal, no more sounds. The description of the process is ???Unload PerfMon Counters???. I looked for a file named 17134.exe on my disk but there is no such file. When I start my system, I have a window with an error message: 17134.exe application error, click OK to terminate the program. The process is recreated automatically. I make sure that my anti-virus is always up-to-date and I ran a full scan on my system. Nothing unusual was detected. I would like to know if that process is legitimate, and why it behaves like that.
