Replacing Imageres.dll

Mar 8, 2009

Hello. A little while ago i downloaded a program called windowsblinds to change the look of my computer. After installing it and changing the theme some of my icons went missing. after doing some looking into it i think the problem lies in icons missing from the imageres.dll directory. so i got a copy of my friends who uses the same version of windows, but i cant move and replace because the old on is in use. So i tried renaming is and i can move it fine, but when i go to put the new one in i need to be admin and when i move or rename the old one i lose my admin controls... this is getting awful fustrating and i think im just going to reformat if i dont get it fixed within a couple days... Can someone please help. I just dont want to go through teh hassle of reformating.

Spybot Search And Destroy Safe?

Aug 20, 2009

I was recently having some issues with my internet history and favorites about the wrong logos appearing beside the website that I posted about in another section. So I downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy to see if it was spyware but nothing was found then I did an immunilization and I checked the logos in the start menu and they went back to be the correct ones.

But what I would like to now is Spybot search and destryy safe? I've heard of fake ones that are actually spyware and virus. And where should I download it at? I was on their site but they give you a list of sites from where to download this progarm. Are all of those safe? I just would like to make sure so I don't download something that ruins my computer.

Installed Usable Memory, Destroy Desktop

Jan 3, 2010

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2), with 2 GB of RAM, Firefox, CA Security Suite, MBAB, SuperAntiSpyware Professional, Cleaner and Spybot search and destroy on an Acer Aspire T180 desktop. All WU's are current and the machine is working just great. About 6 months ago I noticed a reduction in the amount of usable installed emory. I have 2048 MB of installed RAM in 3 slots (512 MB, 512 MB and 1024
MB-with one slot empty), but only 1792 MB of usable memory. The usable installed/unusable installed difference is 256 MB. The difference may mean that some of it has gone bad or whatever. Is there anyway to ascertain why I'm not able to take advantage of the full 2024 MB of RAM? Is it possible one of the memory sticks is not plugged in correctly or there's a dirty contact somewhere? I realize that this may be a `don't fix it if it ain't broken' situation since the computer runs just fine but if there's something I can actually do to get back the missing 256 MB of RAM that'd be nice. I'm posting this here and also at: Microsoft.public.windows.vista.performance_maintenance since I'm not sure of the correct post location.

Replacing Boot Hard Drive?

May 24, 2009

I have a dual boot system - XP on the boot drive and Vista on a slave drive. The boot drive is failing (clicking on boot and often preventing the computer from passing the bios splash screen). The Vista install modified the boot header on the XP boot drive. This means that I cannot just buy a new boot drive and install XP on it because the boot information allowing for dual boot will need to be re-written to it. How do I do this?

Is it possible for me to make a backup of the dual boot information installed by Vista so that when I replace the boot drive I can copy at least some parts of the information to the boot drive? Will I have to reinstall both XP and Vista on the slave drive? It has taken me ages to get a stable Vista install on the legacy mobo and I have finally managed it - I wouldn't want to reinstall Vista from scratch
just because the boot drive which contains XP and the dual boot information is dying.

Configuring New Gaming With 32 Bit And 64bit Systems

Jan 7, 2009

I am currently in the process of configuring a new Dell XPS 630. I want the system to be primarily for gaming. I have yet to use a PC with Vista, so needless to say I am not familiar with it, let alone the difference between Vista 32-bit and 64 bit systems. The price difference between the 32- and 64-bit systems that I am debating between is very small. Anyway, my questions and concerns are. Is there an advantage to having a 62-bit version over a 32-bit version of vista when it comes to gaming? Any performance problems/issues of one or the other?

If I get the 64-bit version, will 4GB of RAM be enough for gaming or do I need more? Which processor will be better... Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.40GHz,1066FSB) or Intel® Core™2 E8500 (6MB,3.16 GHz, 1333FSB)? How much hard drive space does the OS take up? Would a 500GB hard drive be a decent size. (assuming I plan to remove most games after they are completed)Here is the configuration Im looking at. Price with shipping comes to $1216 USD. Plus I have $550 worth of Dell gift cards I've been saving. Nice thing is 19in monitor is included.........

Disabled DELL Support On 64 Bit Systems

Apr 22, 2009

This is a very interesting release. It adds full support for a lot of new hardware. AMCC/3WARE users will be happy to see SMART data for all of their EIDE/SATA hard disks. Full Intel QST support has been added too (you need to RUN AS ADMIN on some OS). Support for new SMBuses (like nVidia MCP79 and SiS968) is there. New chips (like the ADT7470 and the ADT7462) have been added and support has been improved for some others. ITET8720 identification has been greatly improved. DELL support is now tested on more chipsets. Windows7 32 and 64 bit has been added and verified. Both the installer and the executable are now digitally signed. A lot of refinements, improvements and bug fixes were applied. Quote: 4.38

Triple-booting - What Order To Install The Operating Systems

May 12, 2008

I've been using WinXP Pro since it was first released and I'm very happy with it. However, I have a requirement to learn about Vista and Linux so I recently bought a 500GB hard drive and intend to partition it in the following way: three partitions, each 50GB in size, one for XP, one for Vista Ultimate and one for Linux (probably Ubuntu) with the remainder of the disc probably split into either two or three partitions for music, photos and user documents/data. My question is, in what order do I install the operating systems, so that when I power up the machine, I'm presented with the choice of which OS to boot into?

The ATI Catalyst Control Centre Will Not Run Properly With Vista X64 Systems

Dec 24, 2008

Like many other users I see on this forum, which I think is great by the way, I am new to the game of Vista and find that i have much to learn. I have a question regarding Graohics cards for someone to answer. I am running an ATI (POwerColor) 4850 and the local company that built the computer for me claims that the ATI Catalyst Control Centre will not run properly with Vista x64 systems. The card itself is running fine, but I began qustioning them on this when I found no control centre installed. The CCC apparently causes the card to crash quite often, so they suggested I only install the driver and not the CCC the next time I update. Makes me a little nervous to install the 8.12 driver now!!

Computer Systems No Longer Include :Recovery Media

Apr 30, 2008

BRING BACK ALL CD FOR COMPUTER , TECH SOME TIMES CANT RESTORE OR REINSTALL HARDWARE IF THE CD IS NOT HERE.BRING BACK THE MEDIA/RECOVERY CDS.RECOVERY MEDIA Most computer systems no longer include "Recovery Media" (Disks or CDs used to restore your computer system to it's factory shipped state).Many do not even include Operating System disks.This is not specific to systems purchased from any one company, but now standard practice throughout the entire industry.However, many manufacturers include software on the hard drive that creates recovery media for you. This allows burning your own set of recovery CDs or DVDs - all you need is the blank media.Inclusion of such a recovery utility varies by manufacturer and model; not all manufactures and models include such a utility. For those that include such a utility we recommend you create your own set of recovery media after completing the Windows installation. In other words, right after you startusing your PC!If you fail to do this and encounter a difficulty in the future you may not be able to properly restore your computer.Some manufacturers may have physical recovery media available separately for purchase; consult your owner???s manual support information section foradditional information. Systems that do not come with a CD/DVD burner may still include Recovery Disks - please check the manufacturer's specs.This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Rouge Process I Cannot Get Rid Of.

Mar 23, 2008

C:UsersUserAppDataLocalTempFLBPKKMMZXYZ.exe

This rouge process is listed is Services. I have managed to Disable it, however I'd like to remove entirely. I found it in the Registry, but I cannot find a way to remove it. I've done everything I know even in the Safe Mode and it will not let you delete, modify or whatever.

It has no Dependencies listed, the Service and Display names are the same "FLBPKKMMZXYZ"

When running Regedit I ran it as Admin, I tried to set permissions on the
Branch and was denied. Here is how it's listed.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001EnumRootLEGACY_FLBPKKMMZXYZ000]

"Service"="FLBPKKMMZXYZ"
"Legacy"=dword:00000001
"ConfigFlags"=dword:00000000
"Class"="LegacyDriver"
"ClassGUID"="{8ECC055D-047F-11D1-A537-0000F8753ED1}"
"DeviceDesc"="FLBPKKMMZXYZ"

The one thing I did do before trying to remove from it the Registry was
delete the file from AppDataLocalTemp. Could this be preventing me from
removing the Registry entry? I wouldn't think so, but it may be the first
time in my life I was wrong.
