Hello. A little while ago i downloaded a program called windowsblinds to change the look of my computer. After installing it and changing the theme some of my icons went missing. after doing some looking into it i think the problem lies in icons missing from the imageres.dll directory. so i got a copy of my friends who uses the same version of windows, but i cant move and replace because the old on is in use. So i tried renaming is and i can move it fine, but when i go to put the new one in i need to be admin and when i move or rename the old one i lose my admin controls... this is getting awful fustrating and i think im just going to reformat if i dont get it fixed within a couple days... Can someone please help. I just dont want to go through teh hassle of reformating.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot system - XP on the boot drive and Vista on a slave drive. The boot drive is failing (clicking on boot and often preventing the computer from passing the bios splash screen). The Vista install modified the boot header on the XP boot drive. This means that I cannot just buy a new boot drive and install XP on it because the boot information allowing for dual boot will need to be re-written to it. How do I do this?
Is it possible for me to make a backup of the dual boot information installed by Vista so that when I replace the boot drive I can copy at least some parts of the information to the boot drive? Will I have to reinstall both XP and Vista on the slave drive? It has taken me ages to get a stable Vista install on the legacy mobo and I have finally managed it - I wouldn't want to reinstall Vista from scratch
just because the boot drive which contains XP and the dual boot information is dying.
Accidentally deleted this folder from C:, and tho I have the files for it on D: (the green 'documents' folder), I cannot access them by clicking start/documents.
How do I fix this blunder ?
Also, probably a post here somewhere, but I tried to do a system restore in the hope that would fix it, but have no restore points...thought this was done automatically?
I have to replace an elderly computer running Windows 98. I also have a second machine running XP Home. Is the Vista operating system now as stable as XP. I run several older applications including Quicken 2000, Quicken is no longer supported in the UK. Will I definitely have to to upgrade all older software or should will they work with Vista. I don't want to upgrade software particularly everything I run does what I want.
Just recently got an Intel Q6600 Quad core, just going to do a straight swop with an Intel dual core Q6320, Mine is a triple Boot system, will this destroy all systems, and mean a re-install of everything.

I've got an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ system based on an MSI K8N SLI mainboard.
The board is currently running w/ 2GB (2x1GB) of Corsair DDR 3200, and I have been considering moving it up to 4GB as I am running Vista 64.
What concerns me is what I read about this board on the MSI product page, and honestly, I'm not really sure what this would mean to me!
The product page can be seen here: MSI Computer Corp. - Product
And the verbage that has me wondering, "What does this mean to me?" is below. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated before I shell out any cash on more memory! If I am reading it right, it will only utilize 3GB when 4GB is installed?
Due to the South Bridge resource deployment, the system density will only be detected up to 3+ GB (not full 4GB) when each DIMM is installed with an 1GB memory module!
I have Vista Ultima but my Motherboard was burn from electric problem I going to install a new Motherboard, my hard drive and the other cards are OK they was check and tested , Is any way that I can do this and don't have to reformat the Hard Drive ?????? View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a OEM version of Ultimate x64, though now I want to upgrade my Mobo to another brand, new CPU and Ram. My question is: Do I have to buy a new Windows if I do that? Or is there a way I can reactivate my "old" one?
View 9 Replies View RelatedBasically the machine just switches itself off, frequently and without warning. There is no obvious pattern to when this happens. It's happened whilst booting up, after a few minutes. a few hours and occassionally doesn't happen at all. Tech support appear certain that it is either due to the cpu/motherboard overheating or a problem with the operating system. I've checked the temperatures on rebooting after it's shutdown and these have never exceeded 53 and 37 degrees (CPU and M/B respectively). Tech support seemed confident that this pointed to a problem with Vista.
I tried running the the machine in safe mode and it still shut itself down (although it did seem to be slightly more stable). In addition to shutting down unexpectedly the machine was prone to freezing with almost all software 'not responding' (including Task Manager which was a new one on me ). On the occassions when I could get task manager to work with the machine frozen it indicated that almost none of the system resources were being used (CPU usage about 5% and memory in the low 20% area).
Having concluded that a reinstallation was required I did a clean install using Brink's very helpful tutorial. At first the machine seemed stable after the installation however a couple of days later it began to shut down again. Other than that problem the operating system seems to be stable (so partial success). I've disabled all the obvious sleep options in the control panel so I don't think it's anything to do with that.
I was just wondering if it was possible for the computer to boot with a broken motherboard ...
I thought without the motherboard you wouldnt even be able to get to the BIOS ... is this right?
where do i look to see what revision my motherboards is
After adding a Gigabyte EP45-DS3R motherboard (not me, a company), following problems occured:
- Windows Update does not work, the only thing i get is a white screen, so no info at all
- Back-up is impossible: Code 28 MUI file problem
- Ras Async Adapter is missing
- Realtec "8169" missing
- cannot alter the computer through my other one, so there is a network.
The PC with the new motherboard can see and do everything on the second computer, but i cannot get access to the newer one. Vista was installed through the company delivering the motherboard. When i put in the CD to let the computer search for the Ras Async Adapter, nothing is found.
I am looking to purchase a new motherboard.....this is what I need it to have... Dual Core Support AGP not PCIe both sata and ide Does anyone know of newer motherboards that support this??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop and desktop, but the desktop is five or so years old. I need a new one, and retail is too expensive, but if a built one is even more expensive, I don't care - I make it and can upgrade it. How do I know what hardware my motherboard supports? I have seen computer cases with a component at the front that shows the stats (CPU Usage, RAM Usage, Hard Drive Usage, and a lot more) Is it part of the case? If not, where can I get it? What is it? Where would I go about getting RAM with LED's? Thats all for now, but I could add more later.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWell, the title may be a little misleading, but here is my problem. I JUST got a TA770 A2+ SE Motherboar, the T series, i dunno if thats any help, all i know is its a Biostar motherboard ><
Anyways, so i took my old HDD, which ISN'T SATA (Whatever that means) It uses one of those "ribbon" cables that usually has 3 black "plugs" on it, 2 for hard drives, and another one for the board itself. Now, what i was able to do with my last board was put a CD drive on the end of the cable instead of an HDD drive.. Now that i tried that again, it won't see my CD drive.. Any help anyone? I am using Windows Vista 32X SP 2 Home basic.
I have just purchased a Gigabyte GA-G31MF-S2 motherboard along with various other components, its all setup and working with 2GB PC2-6400 ram, i did purchase 4GB ram but whenever i put the other sticks in the motherboard the screen goes fussy and refuses to boot or even leave the BIOS screen. I have run various memtests on all the sticks of ram and they have come back fine
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst switch on, got to Welcome screen and froze, restarted now all it does is Start Case fan and CPU fan after 2-3 seconds, runs for 10 seconds and switches off, then restarts and keeps going through same procedure, over and over. On motherboard is a row of 6 LED's showing CPU loading, all six lit each time it starts? I've a horrible feeling the CPU is kaput.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am changing my motherboard from ASUS P5Q deluxe to the ASUS Maximus II board. Will i have to re-activate my Vista even though the two boards are both based on the P45 chipset and similar design. Could I get pull it off or will Vista still read it as a new motherboard and have to go through all the re-activation grief with Microsoft?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am considering upgrading my motherboard to one that has a higher specification than PCI 2.2 to get over a problem with the new 802.11n Wireless NICs. Can I avoid reinstalling all the system and applications by keeping the existing system partition? Re-activating Windows should be legally possible (even by telephone) because my Vista version is a full retail one. I don't expect it to be that simple, but maybe someone has some advice about using the Vista Recovery Environment to re-build the HAL, or erasing certain registry keys in Safe Mode to force Vista to reinstall the correct system devices. At present, I can not get past booting under Safe Mode, so there has to be more to the process - if one is achievable.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy desktop system came with an OEM version of Vista Home Premium installed. This has since been upgraded to Ultimate. Unfortunately the mother board has developed a fault and I will have to replace it. The original motherboard is no longer available (manufacturer gone bust I think) so I have to replace it with a different make.
According to searches on Microsoft, to continue using an OEM version of vista any change of mother board must be of the same make and type as installed on the original system the OS version was licensed to. If this is true I will have to purchase a full version of Vista or try and get another OEM version with a motherboard. (VERY expensive so not an option) Has anyone had the same problem and know if this is true or know of a way round this.
Is there anything I need to do before upgrading my Motherboard in Windows Vista? I know it used to be a pain in the butt in XP. I have a fully licensed copy of Vista (meaning not OEM). The upgrade will be happening this upcoming weekend.

Just recently bought and installed a new processor AMD Athlon X2 64 6000+ AM2 and flashed bios because my motherboard had difficulties to recognize the processor. After this im getting bluescreen with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL constantly after comp has been running for a while. So go to the store and buy a new motherboard or? I have also tried to flash several versions of bios but that only made things worse.

I am looking for the service manual for the ICL50 motherboard that is in the acer 5720Z laptop or any info on the Insyde H20 BIOS and the backdoor key. I have tried all the regular F keys and their combinations also all passwords from other BIOS Mfg. Is there any software out there that will access a computer without having the "Boot from CD Enabled" My laptop is now just a expensive paperweight and will remain so until I can get into it, if ever.
