View 7 RepliesI recently added a NIC card to my comp because the one on my motherboard wouldn't work preoperly. Everything was fine for a few days but then my graphics card began to play up. The top of the display was fine, but the bottom three quarters was a cross between grey and odd colours. I took the NIC card out thinking I had overloaded the graphics card, turned it on and all was fine. Then after 5 minutes it began to play up again, but only when I was burning a DVD. I think it's the PSU as it's 2 and a half years old, I don't think it's pumping out enough juice for everything. The problem is gradually getting worst.

hardware are the same. Is there a way to get Vista working again without doing a totally new installation of Vista and all other programs?
I have had no trouble instaling it in the past. But all of a sudden one day I chose to freshly install vista. So using the standard installation procedures and when I went to install my netgear usb wireless adapter Which used to work failed to install. I thought it was the adapter so I upgraded to a very nice d-link usb adapter...and that too failed to install. So I installed a fresh copy of so on he same drive and reformatted it and that worked just fine.
So I tried reinstalling vista and of course it didn't work. So now I'm really confused and typing this on the only available Internet device which happens to be an iPod touch LOL. Does anyone have an idea as to what is going wrong? Btw I have an oem copy of vista ultimate x64 pre sp1. The netgear adapter was the wusb111 and the d-link adapter is the dwa 160.
I have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00...
So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is).
I'm running Vista Service Pack 1 on a Fujitsu Tablet PC (T4220). For several days, I've been unable to install the Vista Security Update KB971657. The update downloads, my machine reboots, and then an error message comes up "Updates not configured correctly." The machine shuts down, reboots, and then gives the message "reverting changes." When I go to Windows Update in the Control Panel, I see that the update failed, but no error code appears. So far I have:
1. Disabled my antivirus program (Kaspersky), and tried to download and install again, but no luck.
2. Done a clean boot by changing the settings in the System Configuration Utility, rebooted, and tried to download and install again, with no luck. In reading through this section of the forum, I see at least one case in which an update wouldn’t install because the user has Service Pack 1 but should have SP2. Should I try downloading SP2 and see if this resolves the problem? Though I’m curious why Microsoft hasn’t installed SP2 automatically on this machine since my settings are for automatic installation of updates.
I recently tried to upgrade from Vista Basic to Vista Premium but the activation key didn't work. So I recovered Vista Basic from the windows.old file but there is still a corrupt version of Vista Premium on my hard disk. how to remove it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI rebuilt my home PC yesterday. I had a 40GB HDD on which I had Vista Premium and my Applications. THIS WAS running out of space. I had a 30 GB hard disk on which I had all my docs....plenty of space on this. I removed the 40GB disc, installed a new 320GB disc (along with a new video card, power supply, RAM and DVD burner) and rebooted using F1 command, from DVD, and installed OEM Vista Ultimate which computer shop sold me as best (read: cheapest) way to go to Ultimate - especially as I was rebuilding so much of my PC...IS THAT RIGHT? . All went fine.......BUT I failed to notice until after activating Vista that I had installed it on the second HDD (the small 30 GB one 'left over' from my original PC configuration!!!!!...

I have a Windows Update that works fine so it seems strange. The only thing that changed (as I know of) is that now I have in the corner of my lower right screen, a new message showing: Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build 6000 - I could have taken that if the install was a success.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having is I cannot acess my laptop with windows sharing/networking.I am trying to share files and printers between my Dexktop PC and my Laptop.My desktop PC is connect to a router with DNS by cable and the laptop is connected by Wi-Fi.Both computers belong to the same workgroup(WORKGROUP).Both computers have password protected public folder and printer sharing,file sharing,network discovery,and password protected sharing enabled. Both computers do have shared files and printers.What's happening is from the laptop the desktop(RK-PC)appears and I can share files and printers flawlessly and very quickly.However from the desktop while the laptop (RYANK-MOBILE) appears it cannot be accessed at all.Also the desktop is vista 64 bit and the laptop is vista business.I saw another thread with the same problem but the response pointed to a tome of an article that explained every single facet of windows sharing down to the way the packets are constructed.To be honest I don't have time to read 100 pages on windows sharing and there is no way the problem is the complicated.None of the suggestions I read in the first five pages or so helped at all any ways.I tried changing netBIOS from default to disabled on both PCs but after doing this the result was normal function on the laptop as before but the desktop could no longer even see/discover the laptop on the network.

I have looked on here to find a solution and have tried to do a system restore but it tells me that there are no settings to restore to ?? Most other messages just dont make sense as Im not great at dealing with computers when they go wrong! I would be really grateful if anyone knows how I can sort this out. The only thing I can do is log into Safe Mode and I have no idea where to go from here!

problem I have is that I do not have vista installation dvd. I am currently studying abroad in Rome and will take more time than I have to receive the dvd in the mail. None of my friends here have one either, but they all have the same make and model computer that I do. Is it possible for one of them create a installation dvd that I could use? Or could they make a recovery disc that could as least get me to the system recovery options screen?

View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on HP Pavilion TX 1250ee laptop. I have a problem logging into Windows Vista. I get the screen up which allow me to select my account and enter a password. Then I get a welcome message. Trouple is it goes no further. The Screen went black with only a white cursor showing. Seconds later, an error showed up saying failed to set data for 'Shell' I've left it for few hours but nothing changed. I did some troubleshooting like testing the Hard Disk using the Built in Self Test in BIOS and everything was pass. I tried to login through safe mode and fortunatlly it's ok. but I don't exactlly know what's the problem? Before it did happen I was creating CD recovery for my computer using the Recovery Manager. Also, there was some updates from Windows which I think what cause the problem. I'm still troubleshooting and waiting for any respond from you guys.

And my computer still works! Why is this?

I've got an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ system based on an MSI K8N SLI mainboard.
The board is currently running w/ 2GB (2x1GB) of Corsair DDR 3200, and I have been considering moving it up to 4GB as I am running Vista 64.
What concerns me is what I read about this board on the MSI product page, and honestly, I'm not really sure what this would mean to me!

View 9 Replies View RelatedBasically the machine just switches itself off, frequently and without warning. There is no obvious pattern to when this happens. It's happened whilst booting up, after a few minutes. a few hours and occassionally doesn't happen at all. Tech support appear certain that it is either due to the cpu/motherboard overheating or a problem with the operating system. I've checked the temperatures on rebooting after it's shutdown and these have never exceeded 53 and 37 degrees (CPU and M/B respectively). Tech support seemed confident that this pointed to a problem with Vista.
I tried running the the machine in safe mode and it still shut itself down (although it did seem to be slightly more stable). In addition to shutting down unexpectedly the machine was prone to freezing with almost all software 'not responding' (including Task Manager which was a new one on me ). On the occassions when I could get task manager to work with the machine frozen it indicated that almost none of the system resources were being used (CPU usage about 5% and memory in the low 20% area).
Having concluded that a reinstallation was required I did a clean install using Brink's very helpful tutorial. At first the machine seemed stable after the installation however a couple of days later it began to shut down again. Other than that problem the operating system seems to be stable (so partial success). I've disabled all the obvious sleep options in the control panel so I don't think it's anything to do with that.
I need to replace my motherboard, what is Vista going to do when it sees a different motherboard?

After adding a Gigabyte EP45-DS3R motherboard (not me, a company), following problems occured:
- Windows Update does not work, the only thing i get is a white screen, so no info at all
- Back-up is impossible: Code 28 MUI file problem
- Ras Async Adapter is missing
- Realtec "8169" missing
- cannot alter the computer through my other one, so there is a network.
The PC with the new motherboard can see and do everything on the second computer, but i cannot get access to the newer one. Vista was installed through the company delivering the motherboard. When i put in the CD to let the computer search for the Ras Async Adapter, nothing is found.
I am looking to purchase a new motherboard.....this is what I need it to have... Dual Core Support AGP not PCIe both sata and ide Does anyone know of newer motherboards that support this??

I need a new one, and retail is too expensive, but if a built one is even more expensive, I don't care - I make it and can upgrade it. How do I know what hardware my motherboard supports? I have seen computer cases with a component at the front that shows the stats (CPU Usage, RAM Usage, Hard Drive Usage, and a lot more) Is it part of the case? If not, where can I get it? What is it? Anyways, so i took my old HDD, which ISN'T SATA (Whatever that means) It uses one of those "ribbon" cables that usually has 3 black "plugs" on it, 2 for hard drives, and another one for the board itself. Now, what i was able to do with my last board was put a CD drive on the end of the cable instead of an HDD drive.. Now that i tried that again, it won't see my CD drive.. Any help anyone? I am using Windows Vista 32X SP 2 Home basic.
I have just purchased a Gigabyte GA-G31MF-S2 motherboard along with various other components, its all setup and working with 2GB PC2-6400 ram, i did purchase 4GB ram but whenever i put the other sticks in the motherboard the screen goes fussy and refuses to boot or even leave the BIOS screen. View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst switch on, got to Welcome screen and froze, restarted now all it does is Start Case fan and CPU fan after 2-3 seconds, runs for 10 seconds and switches off, then restarts and keeps going through same procedure, over and over. On motherboard is a row of 6 LED's showing CPU loading, all six lit each time it starts? I've a horrible feeling the CPU is kaput.
