I never set up the Vista Mail. I now can not find it under programs. I am not a computer person, so I need some help. How do I get it back? When I search for Windows mail in the search it comes up with it under appdata/local/microsoft/windowsmail I tried to make a short cut and put it on the desk top to see if that would open the programbut it just goes back to the window that come up from my search.
View 9 RepliesSure was glad to find the download to install a shortcut for 'switching users' but the file 'tsdiscon.exe' does not exist and in explore with hidden files exposed I certainly didn't find it. Several other files weren't there as compared to the install demo. I'm certainly missing something here, what is it?

I cannot find the definitive answer to the problem of "Windows mail not responding" I have Vista Ultimate on a Dell XPS. I use Norton 360 and since starting my search the only thing I've done is I have turned off email scanning. There appears to be several people with the Windows mail not responding problem; there has to be an answer and a fix. Please don't tell me to get rid of Norton unless Norton has been definitely identified as the culprit. I've seen, several times, to switch to Windows Live Mail. I have 8 POPs account that I monitor. I've got about 2000 messages in 21 Local folders
View 6 Replies View RelatedI downloaded some pictures from digital camera this morning and saved them on my desktop as I always do. Viewed the pictures & all was ok. Just gone to view the pics again and says the following: The drive or network connection that the shortcut (then the image number) - Shortcut.Ink refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again. I have no idea what this means but deleted the pictures of the camera as I viewed them and they were fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to install PSE 7 (2X) on my new HP desktop (6 GB with Vista Home Premium 64 bit). It seemed to install fine, however won't launch. When I try to open it from the desktop icon or off of the c drive - program file i get a messge that reads "MISSING SHORTCUT - Windows is searching for photoshop elements 7.0 exe to locate the file yourself click browse" I only have 2 weks to decide if I want to keep this computer. PSE is the main program that I run on it. Be gentle with me - I am not completely computer illiterate however some of the lingo is sometimes a little puzzling to me.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy windows mail is not responding whenever I attempt to look at attachments. As long as I do not look at the attachment the program behaves normally. However whenever I attempt to open an attachment the program becomes unresponsive and has to be closed. I have re-booted the computer at least five times. I also attempted a system restore however that failed because of an unknown error. (that is what it said) I feel like I am heading toward a complete re format. BTW this all began about a week ago, and the computer is a two month old Dell XPS one running on VISTA
View 8 Replies View Relatedmy dodgy mail issue is back. Any HTML emails sent to me from Outlook appear as plain text and attachments are missing. I know for a fact that the gateway server they go through does NOT turn them into RTF or anything... It was all working fine and then it stopped. I am beginning to assume it's a problem intermittently caused by Norton AV (360 v3.0 I'm running). I have disabled email scanning but no dice.

Windows Mail just seems so slow and klugy by comparison--and the Calendar is also usable, but annoying. What do you all think? View 5 Replies View RelatedVista SP1 install I had to reinstall (not restore) the entire system much to my regret. In the process I added a newsgroup account in Windows Mail and downloaded my regular newsgroups but could not find alt.binaries.food which I have been reading for quite some time (And in fact still reading it on a XP machine with OE so I know the group is alive and active).
After messing with it for over a day I chatted with EarthLink and other than to say its a "Vista problem" they provided no real help or direction. When I Google "missing alt.binaries.food and Vista" there are an amazing number of people with the same apparent problem description but no proposed or found solutions.
Then I added Thunderbird to the Vista system this afternoon and viola, alt.binaries.food is there alive and well. So it doesn't appear to be this computer but rather either something in Windows Mail or my setup. Does anyone have a clue? Or does this seem to point in some direction to the group?
The problem is that we seem to have mail appear in the inbox and then disappear. Is it possible this is an issue with the anti-virus mail scan.

I've checked the security settings, but they haven't changed. The only Windows security product I'm using is Defender's Firewall, whle virus and spyware checking is from AVG (Free). I found an old post and it suggested going into control panel and looking to see what the MailTo protocol is. It does not exist and that may be the challenge. I have checked for defaults and Windows mail and IE have all defaults set. I then looked for the windows mail protocol. It does not exist. I see windows mail in the far right on a couple of items but no protocol. Could this be because I put Office 07 in along with 03. It didn't work. I had hoped to have both available. 03 for now work and 07 to leisurely learn all the changes. I took 07 out and had to reinstall 03. That all works but email link embedded into a link tells me my mail client is not properly installed. I have a thread further down, but it is not being answered and so I am probably in trouble for starting a new one. How do I get the protocol in there?

now i dont have many programs that start up when windows starts.
Built a new pc last week. Installed vista 64, all was great! Installed Crysis (what a game!!!) Connected to the net...downloaded microsoft updates...dvd stops responding. Thats where i've been ever since. I've spent hours trawling the net trying different things ie upper/lowerfilters (which don't appear in my registry), remove drive, re-install, checking drivers/firmware, apply registry patch, but still can't get it to work. I've tried to start a fresh install of vista but without a dvd drive thats difficult! (not sure how much begging required :-) Device manager shows no errors - dvd working fine!
