Sure was glad to find the download to install a shortcut for 'switching users' but the file 'tsdiscon.exe' does not exist and in explore with hidden files exposed I certainly didn't find it. Several other files weren't there as compared to the install demo. I'm certainly missing something here, what is it?

Just two identical logons. Is this another profile the is a shadow or double of my login that runs at the same time. I can choose either to logon on to and they both are identical with identical passwords, etc.. Once I log on I can't switch user and see the profile again. What is this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhenever someone in my family walks away from using the computer with Windows Vista, after the Screen Saver, I'm always taken to a screen that allows only the last user to log back in, but when someone else wants to log in, they need to hit the "Switch User" button to go back to the regular login screen. Can I have the computer just go back to showing all the user's names (so I don't have to click the "Switch User" button to login as me). I would like this to work, just as XP did... so if the last person who used the computer has to log back in, s/he would just have to click their name again...just like XP did.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista Home Premium (6.0.6001--sp 1). Since installing Checkpoint VPN client, the Switch User option has disappeared from my shutdown menu. (I've since deinstalled the VPN.) I've read elsewhere that it might be a group-settings issue, and it can be toggled by using the group administration panel. This was for Vista Ultimate, though; trying to run "gpedit.msc" fails with a "not found" error. Is there another way to alter this? Perhaps by hacking the registry? My wife and I switch fairly often between our profiles, so I would like to have the option.
View 6 Replies View Related[This is my second post on the same subject. The first thread died] I had this Vista Home Basic machine working okay, but the power went out and then another person who was high used the machine. They named a new user as administrator. I don't know what else they did.
Now I have a new user as administrator and the previous users are gone. I still see evidence of them in the file tree but the old programs are gone and the documents are buried in C > Users > Admin (that was a name of a previous user that I had named when I first got the machine) I've gradually installed some of my old programs and I'm currently
just rebuilding everything, but it would be a lot easier if I could revert to the old user system. The Control Panel > add or remove user accounts is useless. I only have two icons there So is there anyway to return to the original condition? How can I recover the missing users?
I accidentally changed my user folder shortcut name in Windows Explorer under Desktop.
It was changed when I tried to save a file to the desktop and accidentally create new folder while highlight the user folder shortcut. It might be a bug in the system, since I can’t duplicate the change again.
I have tried to rename it but nothing happens.
I deleted it but it came back after refresh (F5).
There is no property available since this is a special folder or shortcut like network shortcut in Windows Explorer.
I briefly went through the registry and search for ‘shell’ related value but find none to resolve the issue. Did the search on Google and this forum, I have found nothing related to this problem. Maybe I use the wrong word for the search. Does anybody know how to reverse the change or edit in the registry?
I never set up the Vista Mail. I now can not find it under programs. I am not a computer person, so I need some help. How do I get it back? When I search for Windows mail in the search it comes up with it under appdata/local/microsoft/windowsmail I tried to make a short cut and put it on the desk top to see if that would open the programbut it just goes back to the window that come up from my search.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen I tell vista to turn file sharing on, shouldn't it actually listen to me? When I select 'turn file sharing on' and apply it doesn't actually seem to do anything. Also the public folder filesharing gives the message 'RPC server unavailable'. Other computers on the network cannot be seen, but the router can. I have checked the router, done all the standard reseting things, checked that file sharing and network discovery are allowed by the firewall (and even turned it off to make doubly sure), used the netsetup program, and had several people who are fairly fluent with networking all give up in frustration.

View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

Just gone to view the pics again and says the following: The drive or network connection that the shortcut (then the image number) - Shortcut.Ink refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again. I have no idea what this means but deleted the pictures of the camera as I viewed them and they were fine.

When I try to open it from the desktop icon or off of the c drive - program file i get a messge that reads "MISSING SHORTCUT - Windows is searching for photoshop elements 7.0 exe to locate the file yourself click browse" I only have 2 weks to decide if I want to keep this computer. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have setup a small home network with a desktop running XP SP2, a Shuttle Media Centre running Vista and network printer. Both PC can access the printer and can transfer files across. Using the LAN portion of a D-Link ADSL router for the interconnection but no ADSL connected. The XP PC has a 56k Dial-up which I am trying to share with the Vista machine. I believe I have done the set-up on both sides properly, IP addresses check out, workgroup checks out, have firewalls up on both with Norton Anti-Virus on the XP end, indeed can see a "residential gateway" on the Vista PC. Howver, when I try to connect to the internet from the Vista PC, nothing happens on the XP PC (no dial out). Even when I connect on the XP PC, no internet traffic flowing to the Vista PC. Should this work? What am I missing?

Some background:
1. Yes, hidden files are set to show in Folder Options.
2. Did a search for the file (including non-indexed locations) and can't find it.
3. Automatically manage paging file size for all drives is selected. C:[OS], System managed is displayed.
Is it possible that I don't have a pagefile.sys? Could that be why my system is hanging periodically?

I recently purchased a laptop from Gateway, and although the Games folder is in the start menu...that folder has the icons for the games, but all the icons are the generic type, and if i click on ANY of them, i get an error message that says: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." ok, BUT I have only the one account on this computer, and of course its an Admin account. Next, i went to Control Panel/Programs and Feature/Turn Windows features on or off...The box for GAMES is checked, and when i open up to see the subfeatures...ALL games are checked...
Next, i went to C:/program files/microsoft games lo and behold, the folders for all the games are there, and the .exe/.dll/ and subfolder with the .mui is ALL THERE...when i try to dubclick on the .exe directly, i get the same message that i did when clicking the shortcut in Startbar (see above) just what the heck can i do to restore those .exe files back into proper working order? I find it hard to believe that only the games files are corrupted...but is there some solution that you could provide me...i have exhausted my attempts to try and find them via the internet (for download)...but since the files ARE on my system..there "should" be a way to fix this weird problem...
I am running Vista Home Premium on an Acer stationary Aspire M3100. All running well except for one problem. I as a user can not install two specific programms. My wife and another user on the PC got the programms when I installed them, but I (admin.) cannot get them working. One is a programm for my Navigon GPS called NavigonFresh. I get two error messages: "Unable to create directory" and: "Cannot create file navigonavigon freshsettingsuser.xml". But as mentioned above the two other users on the machine have no problems!
The other one is my EPSON perfection scanner 1250. I installed it on the PC, but I can not use/open the programm - but the two other users on the machine have no problems! These are the only two programms on the PC giving me troubles. I tried to uninstall and reinstall but with same negative results. (I tried asking on my Danish newsgroup but negative).

The problem happens with several applications, mostly with word 2007. every log says the fault is ntdll.dll
The file is present in C:windowssystem32
Any effort to change the fila with a new one tells me I have no rights (with both local admin account and enterprise domain admin account).
Trying to register ntdll.dll results with error message that dll or ocx file is missing or corrupt.
sfc /scannow in cmd gives no files with errors.
I???m currently troubleshooting a problem with UAC - File Virtualization in Vista SP1. File Virtualization is not working in Vista and is breaking some applications that previously tested good. The difference with this build is that the C:User folder has now been relocated to the D:User. It now seems that Vista is not creating the VirtualStore Folder & and respective sub-folders under %LocalAppData% (which is pointing to the correct path on D:). I???m wondering if Virtualization has some known problems if the User Data folders have been relocated, and if theres something I can do.

I followed instructions on the forum to enable my Task Manager again using the admin cmd prompt and running a script ws... vbs something. Now I have Task Manager but when I click File, the only choice I have is Exit Task Manager. I thought that if I kill the process Explorer.exe and restart it, it will restore my desktop icons and the task bar at the bottom of my screen. I killed the process but couldn't restart it. I did a shutdown from Task Manager, but on reboot the problem still exists. I already tried system restore and have run a full norton scan.
