Windows Mail Not Responding

Jan 8, 2009

I have searched everywhere on this forum, every other forum I can find, and Google Search. I cannot find the definitive answer to the problem of "Windows mail not responding" I have Vista Ultimate on a Dell XPS. I use Norton 360 and since starting my search the only thing I've done is I have turned off email scanning. There appears to be several people with the Windows mail not responding problem; there has to be an answer and a fix. Please don't tell me to get rid of Norton unless Norton has been definitely identified as the culprit. I've seen, several times, to switch to Windows Live Mail. I have 8 POPs account that I monitor. I've got about 2000 messages in 21 Local folders

Windows Mail "not Responding"

Mar 23, 2008

My windows mail is not responding whenever I attempt to look at attachments. As long as I do not look at the attachment the program behaves normally. However whenever I attempt to open an attachment the program becomes unresponsive and has to be closed. I have re-booted the computer at least five times. I also attempted a system restore however that failed because of an unknown error. (that is what it said) I feel like I am heading toward a complete re format. BTW this all began about a week ago, and the computer is a two month old Dell XPS one running on VISTA

I see a lot of issues for Windows Media Player but not any solutions that have worked for me. I have Windows Media Player 11 on Vista 64 Home Premium and everything was working just fine until all of a sudden I click on WMP and it does not respond which then caused problems with even shutting down the computer. I have rebooted I have tried scandisk and I have tried re-register of files such as regsvr32 wmp.dll and so forth and still no luck. I have also done a system restore to various times when I thought things were working just fine and still no luck.

Restore Point: Windows Explorer Hang/Not Responding

Aug 30, 2009

when I right Clicked a short cut, file or folder within Windows Explorer. It caused Windows Explorer to Hang/Not responding. Then Idecided to do an update to the Vista, so I ran the Upda5te option. My problem of right clicking appeared again? I went back into Safe Mode to find and re-do the System Restor from Sept 24th and it no longer exist? the select older than 5 days was grayed out.

I did not delete or do anything (that I'm aware of) to remove it. It was the last one on the list. Was it deleted automatically due to storage size allowed? In any case, is there a way to get it back? I need to fix this problem - of right clicking something and having Windows Explorer hang/not repond. Do I have to do a Vista Repair from my DVDs to get rid of the problem?

Windows 7: Windows Mail Versus Windows Live Mail

Oct 6, 2009

What, if any, inferences can be drawn from the fact that there are typically three times more posts about Windows Mail (WM) than Windows Live Mail (WLM). Could it be that:

(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?

(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?

(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?

My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it. I am cross-posting this to both newsgroups and suggest that replies go to WM as it has the larger following.

HP SP2: Not Responding

Oct 7, 2008

Works, Office 2007, Lotus 123 and others, constantly freeze and (Not Responding). My first reinstall was because UAC locked me out of Drive C:, yet the OS seemed to run ok. I took ownership and all priveledges and still could not access. Finally reinstall! I backed up drive C: before reinstalling (choose Drive C: only) yet when I reinstalled the backup it overwrote Drive D: Partition) Corrupting it. Second reinstall was similar only affected Drive M: again same problems forcing This time reload from CD. Also have a lot of trouble dropping the network connection. This time I cannot (chkdsk M: /f), when I use F9 On boot it only checks CPU, Memory (4mb) and drive C: Then it aborts. All my diag programs uncover no problems. Drives all check healthy and have been defraged regularly. All programs load extremely slow (2.4G Intel core 2 Quad Q6600) I think it should be fairly quick to respond.
