View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using Windows Mail for my Yahoo addresses and by right clicking on the W.M. icon in the programme list above the start button I put a shortcut on to the desktop that has been working very well. Today I have combined Yahoo and Hotmail addresses under the WLM umbrella. But I cannot find how to make a shortcut. Nowhere can I find the relevant WLM icon to make a shortcut from. Obviously I am missing something, somewhere, but what is it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI downloaded some pictures from digital camera this morning and saved them on my desktop as I always do. Viewed the pictures & all was ok. Just gone to view the pics again and says the following: The drive or network connection that the shortcut (then the image number) - Shortcut.Ink refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again. I have no idea what this means but deleted the pictures of the camera as I viewed them and they were fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if there is a way to remap the Windows shortcut keys. A specific example is the [Win][E] opens Windows Explorer but I would like that key to open a different file manager. I have tried different key tweaking programs and the ones I have tried do not allow changing a combination of keys such as the Win key together with another key. I would like something that would also work in Windows XP.

Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:

i really want my default e-mail server to be set up to something that works. and i do not want to go back to using my yahoo account.
How stable is Windows Live Mail? Does it convert your old Windows Mail messages and keep storing messages on your computer, or only online? And what about Contacts? Is there something good to read to read about moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail? The material at is pretty superficial.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat, if any, inferences can be drawn from the fact that there are typically three times more posts about Windows Mail (WM) than Windows Live Mail (WLM). Could it be that:
(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?
(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?
(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?
My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it. I am cross-posting this to both newsgroups and suggest that replies go to WM as it has the larger following.
to avoid having to right click on taskbar and choose from shortcut menu? I'd like to have a shortcut sitting in the Quick Launch toolbar for that feature.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my x64 box, TFS power tools was conflicting with Office Communicator. So I blocked Office Communictor from the startup sequence. As I expected, at startup I would get a message "Blocked startup programs" with the option to "run blocked program" if I want to launch Office Communicator explicitly. Good.
Then I uninstalled TFS power tools, and decided to unblock Office Communicator, so it can run at startup again. Unfortunately, the Office Communicator app shows as "Permitted," but is still being blocked at startup.
In other words, I can't unblock Office Communicator. Vista says it is "permitted", but it is not permitted at startup. I tried disabling and re-enabling it, to see if it would clear up, but no good.
How do I force it to be unblocked so that it will run at startup?
I detest those shortcut arrows that get put on all the desktop icons. I used Tweak UI in XP to get rid of them but can't find anything that works in Vista. I tried Frameworkx that did absolutely nothing.
