When I try to open up the event viewer in administrative tools Iget the message "Unable to complete operation on event viewer the interface is unknown" I have run boot scans and every other scan but nothing works. Ihave windows xp with servicepack 3 Is this some kind of virus in system memory? "please help me figure this one out"
Current situation: When Windows XP boots it displays Windows logo, black screen and then a small error window with title "User Interface Failure" and text "The logon user interface dll msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator ..." There is a button to restart the system. Booting causes a loop back to the same state; I cannot get the system to boot to safe mode. Other than the lack of a logon and desktop the rest of the boot process seems to continue OK; I can access network shared drives from another system. Using BartPE I can see that msgina.dll is in C:windowssystem32 as it should be. Unfortunately much of the data I need to access for my work is not on shared drives and cannot be accessed by BartPE so I am in big trouble. Background: The express version of SpyCatcher was installed a few daus ago. All was OK until I restarted the system and arrived at the current situation. I also have BartPE which I have used to look at the SpyCatcher logs and found entries that msgina.dll was quarantined (along with many other safe items). I believe this is the cause of the problem and not anything else.
I had reinstalled XP from scratch and run windows update and everything but then I noticed that the Windows Update interface hadn't changed. It worked fine and downloaded all the latest patches and stuff but the interface hasn't changed to the newer candy coated look
The Explorer program (%systemdrive%program filesinternet exploreriExplorer.exe) creates the familiar Windows interface, but you can use this setting to specify an alternate interface. If you enable this setting, the system start the interface you specify instead of Explorer.exe.To use this setting, copy your interface program to a network share or to your system drive. Then, enable this setting, and type the name of the interface program, including the file name extension, in the Shell name text box. If the interface program file is not located in a folder specified in the Path environment variable for your system, enter the fully qualified path to the file.If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the setting is ignored and the system displays the Explorer interface.START > RUN > GPEDIT.MSC > USER CONFIGURATION > ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES > SYSTEM > FIND CUSTOM USER INTERFACE > RIGHT CLICK > PROPERTIES > CLICK ENABLE > FIND AN ALTERNATE USER INTERFACE > OK
Have not done any updates lately, nor anything unusual, however, suddenly laptop displays two error messages re/Win logon.exe and Isass.exe failure. Part of the solution noted in the forum was to restart "using last known good configuration", but this doesn't work. It simply attempts to start again and comes up with the error messages again.
after a few hours my computer slows down and then freezes. The internet and the network interface also doesnt work, meaning I can't ping 127.0.0.1 but for some reason the email still works. When I ping localhost I get a request timed out error. When I try to go to a site an alert pops up in firefox thatthe document contains no data and in IE it simply says server can't be found. I have run spybot, norton, avast, and updated the network card's drivers. I think that the problem with eventually freezing is nortons active protect process which seems to always run at 75% plus.
I have searched the forum and have found all comments posted to be pointin towards repair XP. Though this is an ancient decktop that i have no idea where the XP CD is. All i ran was avast preboot virus scan and this has happened.
I can't get past the box that says"Logon User Interface Dll Msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator to replace the dll or restore the original dll."
Does any body know how to replace the original dll? I tried to run a system recovery on my laptop but I dont know the keys to use.
He is running xp pro and when we start the computer up this is the message we recieve - User interface failure. The logon user interface dll msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL, or restore the original DLL. I found this at Microsoft.com http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836683/ and followed the instructions, but when we go to last known good configuration, we recieve the original message again. I've tried to boot in safe mode, and recieve the same message. I searched the forum and found similar cases, except that he does not have a recovery disc. He doesn't know whether the system restore was enabled.
I'm posting this as a help guide for all those out there who have had Windows explorer.exe start doing crazy things. I'm the go to guy for tech problems amongst all of my friends and I've discovered that I'm not the only person with one of these explorer.exe bugs.Firstly I know that explorer.exe is the Windows service controls the UI and allows you to browse files, have icons on your desktop and have a taskbar. However of late bugs have been appearing that are causing it to malfunction in ways that shouldn't be possible.
My system uses Intel 810 Motherboard and Penitum -3, 800MHZ processor. I have Windows XP Professional installed. My problem is that the system has slowed down very much. It takes a very long time to even load the interface fully. Most of the programs in Startup (MSConfig)also do not load. I have recently installed Norton 2005. I have scanned the system for Trojans, viruses, SpywareAdware etc. But nothing shows up. Is it because of NAV?? MSConfig/Startup also does not have any unknown entries.
I recently had a problem on my computer where Internet explorer was not working and would'nt open, and no windows based functions that used the explorer interface would work... So i downloaded the IE7 install package on my other computer and burned to disk to install. everything was going along fine, and when prompted to restart to finsih the installation i did so..... that is when "it" hit the fan.
Occasionally, as with this file, when I Google it or look for info elsewhere, I can find NOTHING. I mean, "no matches meet your search criteria." This one is: ost1f144.exe. Anyone out there know what this little bad boy is? It's shown as being in WindowsSystem32. Think I'll uncheck it for the time being.
Upon startup on XP I get a pop up message (photo below) which halts the system until I press eith YES, NO or close the box. I've done Ad-aware, AVG, Panda, and Ewido scans on the PC but everything appears clean. The box itself contains no dialogue, simply two buttons (Yes, No), so its difficult to ascertain what the program (if any) is
A Palm device stopped syncing. When I called up the manufacturer they had me use Hyper Terminal on the PC to try to connect to a diagnostics program on the Palm. Hyper Terminal says that another program has control of COM1. How can I find out what program is accessing COM1? The OS is XP Pro.
I noticed that my screen saver was never running ever after I left my computer unattended for several hours. This is not the problem, but a sympton of what I believe is the main issue. Every couple of minutes a box pops up on my task bar for about a second and then disappears. There is no text in the box so I have no idea what it is. I assume it is some application that is either trying to run or set to check for something periodically. That's why the screen saver is not running I guess. I there anyway to find out what is causing this. I've run Norton Antivirus (clean) and Microsoft Anti-Spyware and Spybot (also OK). I've look at my Task Manager and didn't see anything unusual there. I ran MSCONFIG and disabled any applications (other than system apps and ones that I was familiar with). I cleared out my "Startup" folder. I don't know what else to do to track down this rouge application.
I keep hearing very weird noises out of my computer. - Which I thought was adaware or something. The noises are occurring more and more frequently, and new noises seam to be appearing now!)I have run f-secure, AVG, super anti-spyware, malware bytes, and possibly more.I have done a HJL (and had it checked - found nothing), and used task manager, and process explorer to try and find what is running, and found nothing
I have a windows 2000 network with xp clients.I have had some instances with names not being correct when you do an nslookup on them for example if I ping auser I will get back a 1.1.1.1 however if I Ping 1.1.1.1 -a I get xpe00806420e241 which is probably from the image install where is the issue?

How can I get rid of RUN DLL? I get this message: Error Loading C: Progra~ |MYWEB ~|ar2.bin MYSBAR ~|.DLL on my desktop at startup. I went to Internet Explorer>Tools>Manage Add-Ons and disabled the MYWEB program. Then I went to control panel>Add or Remove Programs and tried to uninstall the MYWEB Popular Screensavers program but it would not let me. It said the specified module could not be found. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition.
In the last few days the User Accounts logon screen has been coming up after being away from the computer for a time. As I am the only person to use this computer my logon (as administrator) is the only one there and clicking on it will bring me back to the desktop. I felt this was an unnecessary step and went into the User Accounts in the Control Panel to change this. In there I noticed a Password Protected Limited Account called 'ASP.NET Machine A...'. Is this a normal part of Windows XP or something else?
windows xp general. it doesnt appear.so i dont know what the reason can be. could it be that my post is too long (is one page word long)? so the forum doesnt take it?....
I'm using Win XP SP2 . I installed a second CD rom drive which was obviously no good because it caused the other one which is perfectly ok to show up in the bios as an unknown device. Both showed up in the bios as unknown device but the the first still showed up in system hardware the second one didn't.I removed the second one from the computer and the first one then showed up accordingly in the bios as the proper device but the bios is still saying the second one is an unknown device. Every time I start my computer I get the message secondary device missing press the F1 key to continue.
Hello all, I remember reading in a computer magazine about some website that is able to determine an unknown file by entering the name of that file into its text box. I think it is able to determine what kind of file it is.The problem is I cannot remember what the website is called.
