Occasionally, as with this file, when I Google it or look for info elsewhere, I can find NOTHING. I mean, "no matches meet your search criteria." This one is: ost1f144.exe. Anyone out there know what this little bad boy is? It's shown as being in WindowsSystem32. Think I'll uncheck it for the time being.
View 3 RepliesHow can I get rid of RUN DLL? I get this message: Error Loading C: Progra~ |MYWEB ~|ar2.bin MYSBAR ~|.DLL on my desktop at startup. I went to Internet Explorer>Tools>Manage Add-Ons and disabled the MYWEB program. Then I went to control panel>Add or Remove Programs and tried to uninstall the MYWEB Popular Screensavers program but it would not let me. It said the specified module could not be found. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed that my screen saver was never running ever after I left my computer unattended for several hours. This is not the problem, but a sympton of what I believe is the main issue. Every couple of minutes a box pops up on my task bar for about a second and then disappears. There is no text in the box so I have no idea what it is. I assume it is some application that is either trying to run or set to check for something periodically. That's why the screen saver is not running I guess. I there anyway to find out what is causing this. I've run Norton Antivirus (clean) and Microsoft Anti-Spyware and Spybot (also OK). I've look at my Task Manager and didn't see anything unusual there. I ran MSCONFIG and disabled any applications (other than system apps and ones that I was familiar with). I cleared out my "Startup" folder. I don't know what else to do to track down this rouge application.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn the last few days the User Accounts logon screen has been coming up after being away from the computer for a time. As I am the only person to use this computer my logon (as administrator) is the only one there and clicking on it will bring me back to the desktop.
I felt this was an unnecessary step and went into the User Accounts in the Control Panel to change this. In there I noticed a Password Protected Limited Account called 'ASP.NET Machine A...'. Is this a normal part of Windows XP or something else?
I want a program to run at startup and I want to be able to change what I have done at any time.
There are a number of unchecked entries in msconfig and I have to use Selective Startup all the time.
If I want to revert to Normal Startup under the General tab instead of Selective Startup, the program's box automatically rechecks itself in Startup.
The Startup tab gives me a handy record of what I did and allows for an easy change of mind so long as I continue to use Selective Startup.
If I edit the Registry to stop programs running at startup, they won't show in msconfig and I lose the handy record of how it was and I may have to reinstall the program to go back to it running at startup.
I would like to accomplish this:
1. Use Normal Startup instead of Selective Startup.
2. Have some programs not run at startup, but be able to easily change back to having them run at startup.
3. Have a readily accessible list of those programs and the details as shown under the Startup tab as a reminder of how it was without having to manually enter it all into a text file or keep a notebook or reinstall.
Is there some way to use Normal Startup, stop programs running at startup, but retain or find a list of those programs (including the details under the headings Startup Item, Command, Location) that is shown when using Selective Startup with unchecked boxes under the Startup tab?
To put it another way, use Normal Startup but somehow retain the convenient flexibility of Selective Startup.

I'm using Win XP SP2 . I installed a second CD rom drive which was obviously no good because it caused the other one which is perfectly ok to show up in the bios as an unknown device. Both showed up in the bios as unknown device but the the first still showed up in system hardware the second one didn't.I removed the second one from the computer and the first one then showed up accordingly in the bios as the proper device but the bios is still saying the second one is an unknown device. Every time I start my computer I get the message secondary device missing press the F1 key to continue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI reformatted a laptop and install XP for someone as they were having a lot of problems with it and I thought this would be the best way to go as alot of program stopped working. Anyway, after installing it, I still found that I couldn't installed the games he claimed were working before something went wrong and I determined it was the graphics card. I was even more sure when I noticed how poor the refresh rate was (scrolling up/down on web pages and playing games).
So I went to device manager to find out what the card was and install the latest drivers (he doesn't have the drivers for sound/video). But display adapters are not shown in device manager and I went through display -> settings -> advanced and it didn't tell me what card or driver was in there, all the information wasn't there. So any idea's as to how I can work out what card is in this laptop?
Just put together my new system and all is working well, but I am left with this unknown exclamation in the "device manager". I can't figure out what it is.
The only thing device manager says is,Location: on PCI standard ISA bridge The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) and in the conflicting device list it says Memory Range FED00000 - FED00FFF not available.
i installed an usb device,and all the drivers for it,it worked for two days, it was recognized.Now it will not recognize the device.I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device drivers, all the software that used the device. and even tried to install the driver by locating with 'have disk' browse. i have tried all the directories that the drivers were installed to, and then some. and also the install disk. Device manager says that its an unknown device, and theres no problem with it. but will not update to the proper drivers. How can i alleviate this problem short of reformatting my computer.

Some unknown application is running which causes the Taskbar and window buttons to appear with a mottled green and gray pattern. Changing Windows desktop themes and colors can reset the colors, but then when I start a new application, the screen goes black (indicating the display settings are changing), then comes back with the mottled pattern. I have used various tools to try diagnose what the culprit application
is to no avail. I'm sure its some dumb thing my daughter downloaded knowingly or knowingly. I've used msconfig to stop some programs from loading that I thought would be the cause, but that didn't work.
remove this ddplay.exe from my task manager.This is coming only when IE6 browser runs. I open IE, go to Task Manager, delete this(ddplay.exe)I open another instance of IE, then this crap comes again. Its taking almost 25MB memory. My OS is Windows2000 and upto date (windows update)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have this strange problem after I re-installed Windows XP Inernet Explorer 6 is my default browser. Suddenly when I launch it nothing happens. No page opens, the IE logo on the top right corner of the page doesn't move but IE doesn't hang up, if I close it, it closes normally. Also, when I click on System Restore a window opens up with nothing on it - it is completely white and blank. On the top left corner (where the system restore logo is shown) I see a logo of Windows XP's 'Unknown Application'.

XP cd loads and when it gets to partition screen, all four lines say "Unknown disk"-"There is no disk in the drive". BIOS recognizes the new hdd but XP cd does not.
