Information Required About Blackviper.com
Apr 19, 2005Up until a couple of weeks ago, there was a site, blackviper.com that had some darned good information on how to make Windows XP work best for you...
(Such as, learning all the processes in task manager and which ones you need.)
But, as of late, his site is down. Does anyone have any info on this? I'm not sure this is the right forum.

Jul 4, 2005if i decide to dump linux, can you suggest me links where i can find technical information (or if you wanna tell me here on this forum i'd appreciate) about how to format the linux partition and resize the windows partition to take all the 30 gigas of my HD? if i resize windows partition can i loose all the documentation in "my documents"? from the first time i reinstalled everything i discovered "my documents" was untouched. Still am gonna do back up of all my info on the laptopif i decide to keep linux and get it operational ? can you suggest me links about how still resize the linux partition? i want to reduce it to 5 gigas cuz 15 gigas its too much disk space wasted (specially if am not gonna store my main info there, i;ll do that in windows).

May 5, 2005I'm battling spyware removal at the moment (aurora) and somehow my win xp sp2 search function no longer works. i get an error "A File That Is Required to Run Search Companion Cannot Be Found" you may need to run setup I went to the microsoft website and downloaded the hotfix, however it doesn't work with sp2! anybody know how to fix this? I checked and i do have the srchasst folder in windows.

Both worked without a hitch, but now I found 2 programs running in the background that are eating up my cpu speed. The first was utorrent which I uninstalled thru Add Remove Prog. The other is in the startup folder and will not let me turn it off or uninstal(documents&settings/user/applicationdata/microsoft/dtsc/22751). After reading several other posts on things to do before posting, I cleared the temp folders and ran hijackthis. The log is attached. What is this file and should I remove it, and if so how?

May 3, 2005I have three (3) questions:1. When I'm closing down Windows XP (Home Edition), I continually receive an error showing "XtkU.exe" cannot. I have checked everywhere and cannot find out what this file is associated with. In addition I have gone through my system and purged all files associated with this executable from the registry. They pop right back in there with a system restart. I'm lost and confused now because I don't know what application uses this file.2. This HDD had XP on a 50GB Partition, and Linux on a 30GB Partition, installed so I can choose between either operating system with Grub when I boot up. Well, I didn't want Linux anymore, so I used Norton Partition Magic to delete the Linux partition. Now, when I boot, GRUB loads and it just says 'unknown filesystem' and then 'GRUB rescue'.Obviously I didn't realize the GRUB started with Linux first, so now I'm screwed and can't boot.

Jul 21, 2007Recently I had a bout with Trojans (Vundo in particular) and spyware. The machine just kept rebooting. Installed XP on another partition in order to go out to the web and figure it out.. Finally I decided it would be easier to just reload. After a clean install and installing drivers for some hardware, Windows informed me it needed to reboot so the device would work correctly. After POST I got a non bootable disk error. I put the Windows DVD in to try a repair install, but wanted to see what would happen ifI let it go past press any key to boot from CD.... To my surprise I was able to get into Windows. I suspected that there might be some virus/spyware leftover in the MBR.First I uninstalled the other copy of XP, then tried repairing the MBR. Now it comes up with a missing operating system message when I reboot.I can get into windows as long as the boot from cd option is on in BIOS and I do not "select any key to boot from CD"

Sep 19, 2005I am setting up XP Pro on a PC that was previously running W98. I did not use the upgrade option. I used the new installation option.During the setup, it asked for the names of the accounts to set up. I set up 3 accounts and did not set up any passwords for these accounts. When the PC rebooted, I got the Welcome screen w/ the 3 account. All require a password. I cannot get past this screen since I do not know a password for the accounts. I have tried blank, as well as the names of the accounts.

Boot Cd Required For Startup?
Apr 17, 2007Ok recentli have been having issues when starting up windows xp. Everytime i startup it asks for my boot disk. I have tried to change my boot sequence, having windows not even boot from my floppy disk, but still it looks for the boot disk. The only way i can start up my computer is by going through all 6 boot disks and after it will restart and start up windows.
