if i decide to dump linux, can you suggest me links where i can find technical information (or if you wanna tell me here on this forum i'd appreciate) about how to format the linux partition and resize the windows partition to take all the 30 gigas of my HD? if i resize windows partition can i loose all the documentation in "my documents"? from the first time i reinstalled everything i discovered "my documents" was untouched. Still am gonna do back up of all my info on the laptopif i decide to keep linux and get it operational ? can you suggest me links about how still resize the linux partition? i want to reduce it to 5 gigas cuz 15 gigas its too much disk space wasted (specially if am not gonna store my main info there, i;ll do that in windows).
I get a crashing blue screen everytime I need to restart the pc, or sometimes when I disconnect from the internet. It contains the following details Quote:DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Technical information:***STOP: 0X000000D1 (0xF807F328, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF807F328)***USBPORT.SYS - Address F807F328 base at F8061000, Datestamp 41107d62 This has happened several times before.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, there was a site, blackviper.com that had some darned good information on how to make Windows XP work best for you... (Such as, learning all the processes in task manager and which ones you need.) But, as of late, his site is down. Does anyone have any info on this? I'm not sure this is the right forum.
Dell has a problem with some Dell Vostro 200 pc's which involves a black screen just after boot. The advised solution from Dell is to set prefetch to only boot rather than boot and applications. Empty the prefetch folder and in effect not use prefetch as it was designed for Windows XP, Is this a legitimate solution for customers experiencing this problem? I always thought prefetch was supposed to "speed things up". Any suggestions about this? Is Dell just blowing the customers off?
I'm terrible with computers and technical terms but I really need help. When I switched on my laptop I came across a userinit.exe application error asking me to terminate it. After that, all I saw was my wallpaper. No desktop, taskbar, nothing. I looked through about a million forums for help and managed to get back my desktop by running explorer.exe by task manager. Now I get the rundll32.exe application error! Basically now when I switch on my laptop I have to run explorer.exe and get pass the rundll32.exe error by clicking OK multiple times.I can't access anything on the control panel since all I get is the rundll.exe error. I have run a scan in my laptop using NOD32 [thats what I found!] and I found no threats.
I have a couple of problems, but I also have a possible solution and would like to have a bit of guidance as to whether or not I'm doing the right thing. First of all, I will admit to making a couple of mistakes, first I have not backed up ANY data on my hard drive (actually I have 2 on my laptop) and secondly I lost my patience when laptop froze recently and just pulled the plug. Lessons learned! OK, on booting up the laptop, I get the "We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start...blah blah" with the BSOD, which after disabling automatic restart, I could read. BTW none of the safe mode options work, the last known good config.
My computer keeps crashing and the blue screen comes up, saying pyhsical memory dump technical info 0.0000008e (0.c0000005, 0.aa66dc02 0.aaza8az8,0.00000000)
When I start System Information (msinfo32.msc) it gives me, in the info panel, the following message: Can't collect information Cannot access the Windows Management Informationsoftware. Windows Mangement files might be moved or missing. I checked if the WMI service is not disabled (it is automatically started, the default). In Microsoft Mangement Console, under Services and Application, I have WMI Control. R-click, properties, and: Failed to connect to <local computer> because "Interface: class not registered"
I bought a used computer from a guy with WinXP Pro running on it.I just discovered that the new validation required for Updates will not accept my version of WinXP.I know I will probably have to buy something to set this right. What is the simplest way to get the WinXP Pro to validate? I'm trying not to have to reinstall the whole thing.
im trying to do a full recovery on a friends computer is a tiny-windows xp,with mine all you need to do is click f7 when you turn it on but with windows xp.
Recently I had a bout with Trojans (Vundo in particular) and spyware. The machine just kept rebooting. Installed XP on another partition in order to go out to the web and figure it out.. Finally I decided it would be easier to just reload. After a clean install and installing drivers for some hardware, Windows informed me it needed to reboot so the device would work correctly. After POST I got a non bootable disk error. I put the Windows DVD in to try a repair install, but wanted to see what would happen ifI let it go past press any key to boot from CD.... To my surprise I was able to get into Windows. I suspected that there might be some virus/spyware leftover in the MBR.First I uninstalled the other copy of XP, then tried repairing the MBR. Now it comes up with a missing operating system message when I reboot.I can get into windows as long as the boot from cd option is on in BIOS and I do not "select any key to boot from CD"
All of the SP2 install guides at windowsreinstall.com link provided in the sticky state that XP Home CD is required, what if I don't have one, I have a Dell-provided "reinstall" CD for XP. Can I still use the same procedures to upgrade to SP2
I am seriously considering replacing my ME with XP and I was wondering if someone could kind of walk me through the procedure. Do I need to back up everything or just some things. How do you format? Also, if I decide to keep the ME, how do I go about reformatting it?
I am setting up XP Pro on a PC that was previously running W98. I did not use the upgrade option. I used the new installation option.During the setup, it asked for the names of the accounts to set up. I set up 3 accounts and did not set up any passwords for these accounts. When the PC rebooted, I got the Welcome screen w/ the 3 account. All require a password. I cannot get past this screen since I do not know a password for the accounts. I have tried blank, as well as the names of the accounts.
I have windows XP and everytime I start it a window pops up and says(Restarting your computer is required) in the window it says (The computer must be restarted before updating can continue. Would you like to restart now? Yes or No) if I click yes it reboots and the same window pops up asking the same question, what do you think is wrong?
Iam trying to set up my digital camera for my laptop when i put the installation disc in it runs for a few seconds then says the file tsbyuv.dll is needed on windows xp professinal cd rom, however i don't have a cd rom because windows was already pre loaded onto my machine.
A friend of mine had some files on their computer corrupted and they couldn't find their copy of XP that came with their computer, so I used mine to just do a system repair. I've done repairs before on my own system and it didn't ask me to activate it, so I thought this would help solve the problem. Unfortunatly, it is asking for an activation and we still can't find my friends copy. Is all hope lost? or is there something else I should try first? Both of us have valid copies of XP, so I didn't expect to have this many problems by just doing a system repair. Thanks in advance
Ok recentli have been having issues when starting up windows xp. Everytime i startup it asks for my boot disk. I have tried to change my boot sequence, having windows not even boot from my floppy disk, but still it looks for the boot disk. The only way i can start up my computer is by going through all 6 boot disks and after it will restart and start up windows.
Ok this worm has infected my procinit.exe file in the windows flder norton can't delete it or fix it anyone know of a good prog. to fix this file or a way of getting rid of it?
I have 3 physical disks and work from the D drive with XP pro disk 1 has partitions C and N disk 2 has partitions D, E, F and G disk 3 has partitions H, I, J and K Just wondering how many Pagefile.sys files I need to have, as I did a search and found 3, on C, N and D. I thought one was enough ?
A friend of mine is having a problem where he cant log into his computer. But he told me that he did not create a password for the computer. It also has a password on the admin account as well when I go through safe mode. So I took he hard drive out and set it up as a slave on another computer and scanned with nod32 and found and clean virus's. Still asks for a password. i tried ophcrack and it could not crack it. Tried offline password and that did not work either. Only thing I can think of is that maybe someone else put a password on it without him knowing it. Anyone possibly ever hear of a virus or something thats done this before.
Hi, I have a game to play called Silent Hill 3, when I installed it, and went to load it, it said I require a 32mb Video Card, I thought my computer could support this.
I just want to know what files I should copy for a backup disk? I really only would be concerned about my operating system, not any personal files. Basically, I want to know which specific files, (or sets of files) are required for an emergency reboot. I feel sorta stupid asking this, but recent events have shown me how ethereal and fragile computer programs can be. like wisps of smoke.
I can't seem to fix this problem on my computer, it wouldn't go on online with either foxfire or internet explorer. So I did the network diagnostic and it said that the connection was repaired but it only works for a couple sites then it fails again.message comes up HTTP, HTTPS, FTP connectivity required
I have decided to install Windows XP (upgrade) on my home computer. Before beginning I need to know if the Windows 2000 Disks are required. I do not have them and I don't want to start this if there may be a problem.
i have got a hd with a little bit over 6GB and i dont know if i should download servive pack 2. can you tell me what i can get from this and how much space it will take, (i kno the downloads like 1GB), but will it take less space on disk? id like to know what id be gaining from service pack 2.
I recently had to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on my machine because I was complacent and did not keep up on my updates. As a result, my machine as riddled with worms, trojans, etc. So, I used a Win 98 boot disk and deleted the partition and installed a fresh XP. I ordered Service Pack 2 and installed that along with Norman Antivirus. However, I still need to get up to speed from SVC Pack2. Any suggestions on where I can find these updates so I can download them?I won't be using my machine as I don't want to risk it. In other words, that page where you go and your machine is scanned for applicable updates won't work because I'll be using someone else's machine. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly where to go and I'll download them onto my jumpdrive.
I purchased a new Fujitsu Siemens XI1526 17" note book , It came with German Windows XP Home addition..Not being German I want to use my other English Win XP install disc, the notebook came with a Win XP recovery disc, it has SP2 and SATA / RAID support incoperated unlike my Win XP disc. then I format my drives and then Windows starts the install but before it does I get a message " VIA Raid Combo Driver Diskette" need to be inserted to A: Well Im using a USB floppy so again I asked Simens and they told me that my USB floppy is probably not being support "Bah" in other words "Get a diffrent make such as NEC"
But I dont want to give up their so I've spent 2 days trying to make a bootable CD with SATA / Raid incoperated using This TUT but I keep getting errors in the TXTSETUP.SIF file..My easiest solution would be to get a Siemens Fujitsu Win XP recovery disc in English "Any one have one let me know"But apart from the above info is their any other way of getting this to work apart from Disc in English from Siemens "or Similar" or a diffrent floppy drive.
